After my little spotty chap had a runny bum last week, ive had him on a supplement to keep his guts happy. At the moment hes on a course of pre/probiotics by global herbs to put the good bugs back in after his last runny bum episde. Hes been tonnes better, quiter in himself, happier, his tummy isnt gurgly and his poo is normal! So i was wondering if it'd be a good idea to keep him on a general digestive supplement?
Hes already on a stud balancer, i dont want to do more harm than good if im pumping him full of vits/mins and then a supplement aswell. What say you?

I've had a horse with this problem too, He was three when I got him an he was grossly underweight I found the Dengie Digestive Health supplement quite good but i didn't want to keep him on it for months and months, I tried other stuff too but 3 years on I found that If I keep him on BlueChip Pro he's fine and put's the weight on!! I stupidly took him off it a month ago coz we wern't doing anything with the weather and its started again a few days ago, wished I hadn't taken him off it now Sx

Generally digestive supplements don't 'add' anything to the diet, and so they shouldn't cause him any problems, even though he's still growing. IMO you'd do more harm by ignoring his upset tummy... as soon as they have the runs they aren't absorbing the nutrients from their food, which is SO important when they're growing.

the baileys digest plus is really good. you can use it when necessary, or every two or three days, or all the time. Try starting him on a course or 2 doses a day for a week, then drop to one per day for a week, then try missing every other day for a few weeks and see how you get on. You can always go back to every day if he starts to suffer with upset tummy again.

Stinky from the age of 15 months to nearly three was on Equimins Youngstock - gave him everything he needed to grow properly and also has pre and pro biotics. Not that expensive either.

Alternatively you could just give their pro-bio product which I used for years. It is excellent stuff and sorted out the tums of my TBs, clydesdale and gypsy cob. They went from squitty bums on change of hay or grass and in the TB's case not holding weight to being able to change diet with no ill effects and Delia really kept the weight on.

The only reason I don't feed it now is that they get linseed and brewers yeast which are excellent for gut health.
