Baby horse went and did his first ever dressage last week. He only turned 4 last month and this was his first time seeing dressage boards, I expected him to peep at them, but no such thing happened :-) He did what I would say was a lovely test, beautifully behaved and seemed to relax and enjoy himself which was the aim of the game above all! Was a very large class, and he scored 65%. Got some excellent comments and marks, they really really rated his paces and way of going, the only thing that let him down was his straightness along the center line and such, was a bit wobbly! But I'm really pleased as that's something to work on, and for a leggy baby i'm chuffed. Is that an ok score do you think that's reasonable? We have things to work but as a starter? x

65% is definitely good! Especially if it was his first dressage and he was so beautifully behaved! The behaviour in itself is alot to be pleased with! :) Although in dressage, you have to compare the score with the rest of the class, because each judge will have a slightly different opinion. I've often been placed with about 65% but obviously, it's all relative to the other scores. If you got lovely comments, then you obviously did your best and should be thrilled. Well done! :)

Very good score for a first outing :)

Was it a prelim or W+T test? Like someone else said you need to look at your score in relation to the rest of the class as to where you came.

Is your horse bred for dressage then? Did you breed him yourself? Whats his breeding?

Very good indeed :)
My 4 yr old did his first test just before his actual 4th birthday (altho well into his 4th year - May) and scored 64% and won the class - it was just a local riding club walk trot test but I was absolutely chuffed and amazed :) its such a great feeling especially if you have backed them yourself! Only problem is we are booked in for another now in a week or two and he is going SO much better now...but its at a slightly more competitive venue and I have a horrible feeling we might not do as well! I'm keen to get him to some prelims but or school has been so deep over last few months we haven't really been able to practice his canter much in the school, so will stick to WT for now - altho with this rain you never know!

Big well done though, its a very satisfying feeling isn't it! I'm waiting for th 5 year old tantrums to kick in next year as he has been pretty easy so far although does have a few 'moments' now and again and has a big old buck and leap when he feels like it!

Many thanks for the kind comments! I'm just pleased he behaved so to go well is a bonus really. It was a prelim! I haven't studied in great detail the other results yet, it seemed close at the top half but there we're a number of 50 odds I *think*. but he came around 7th out of 32. Great experience as we have lots to work on, but he showed real promise I thought (although i'm bias!). Theres another in a few weeks so will have a bash at that too.

Tempi - Yes he's bred for Eventing/dressage, other siblings doing very well. Got him from a lovely little stud as a stallion. He's a Trakehner, stunning boy! I'll actually post some photo's when I get them! x

That's a great score, what a good boy to get that on his first outing, I always think must be so daunting for them at their first show so you should be really chuffed :)
