Youngsters exposed/exercised in less than favourable conditions...

 
Mines 4 and I take her out in all weathers, ride in the dark etc. Today it was very windy and rainy here, I think I was the only livery that ventured out :eek: we went for a lovely hack, she was a bit spooky but she always is weather its sunny or rainy lol I also ride her in the dark during the week and she doesnt even blink an eye. I think its good to ride in all weathers especially if you plan to compete.

I find that in the winter at my yard too! Summer it is absolutely chocca-block with liveries using the facilities, come winter, there's only a handful of us roaming about - just the way I like it! ;)

My little man has been exposed to competing inhand showing all weathers, and *touches wood*, has coped really well with it. Although I appreciate being ridden could be different.... hence the urge to exercise in less than perfect conditions! xx
 
I actually quite like splashing about in the rain tbh :o My mare has a thing about muddy puddles and wet roads (she tippy toes over it to start with :rolleyes:) so its a good lesson on "You must walk were I tell you!!". My last gelding hated being out in heavy rain ie he would nap and buck/rear, we had an indoor so i would avoid the rain!! I did man up one day whilst in the outdoor it started raining, he began to nap so I just sat there waiting for him to finish (whilst getting drenched!!) after about 10mins he got the picture and decided moving was infact warmer than standing messing around :D He was a good boy in rain after that!!
 
What a treasure - I take mine out regardless of weather - can't bear horses with the 'I'll melt' attitude if it's raining or the wind blowing.

Yesterday the wind howled day long at the local A & P (County) show and you could see just exactly who was ridden in the wind and who wasn't - quite entertaining.

In the past I've tied, plastic milk bottles and carrier bags to the bridle, and plastic milk bottles with water or sand in them to weight them from the saddle. Makes for a very sensible pony/horse.
