At what ages do horses go through the 'teething process'?
My boy will be 2 in May and he's started trying to chew everything! Thankfully he knows humans are not to be chewed.
He's started to try and chew his head collar when I put it on, as if I were putting a bit in. He chews his lead rope, the rope that ties his haynet up... Everything! When chewing his lead rope he has learnt how to untie himself... Annoying! He also takes ages to eat a carrot... Well compared to other horses who just wolf them down, but pretty normal for him now.

Just wondering if he could be teething, or picking up a bad habit? If he's teething is there anything I can do to help him?

He's eating his haylage fine, always nearly empty nets (I try and give him enough so he never runs out, and he's not really greedy to gorge on it)
And he hasn't learnt to untie himself through boredom, he does it when I tie him up with his haynet to muck him out, he likes to help so easier this way! A minute or so later he's untied, still stood eating but untied... Almost like he does it because he can! And it's not because I'm rubbish at tying up... I've watched him work it out and do it.

So... Teething or bad habits?

My youngster went through a stage of cribbing, my fence posts took a bit of a beating but she seems to be through that now and she lost her two top front caps when she was 2 1/2 I think and then the bottom two not long after that. She will be three in May. Hopefully, its just a phaze.

My three year old has been through lots of phases like this, then settles again until another cap comes loose. She is nearly 4 so i'm hoping she's not got too many left to go now!

Definitely teething, I have two 2yo's (3 this summer) and they have been doing exactly the same for months! Especially the 'self-bitting' when putting on headcollars :D

Don't be worried when you see horrid looking front teeth!
