I'll be showing my filly in local youngstock classes next year. What should I wear and how should I turn her out? She's not registered with any breed registers. Shes appy x welsh D x. I basically want to just get her out and about, but want her/me to look the part also.

Im assuming she will be pulled/plaited and trimmed. And I know trousers not jobs are the done thing but thats it lol.

What colour should I wear and would I wear a hat?

Any advice greatly received :-)

i always wear my riding hat, especially with a youngster at there early shows. I would plait her, i wear brown cords and my hacking jacket with a shirt and tie, but if its a hot day a waistcoat would suffice instead of jacket. I wear jodhpur boots with my outfit, you need gloves. And a smart bridle for your filly how old is she?

This is how I presented my pb appaloosa and me!

Horse - plaited and trimmed and groomed to within an inch if his life! Havanna in hand bridle with rubber bit and matching newmarket chain and home made navy, red and cream browband.

Me - navy beagler, brown gloves, mustard show jacket with overcheck with navy collar, yellow shirt (cheap primark one put through the wash with yellow dusters) navy and red tie, blue corduroy trousers, brown belt and smart brown shoes. Hairnet and matching hairband. Oh, and don't forget a showing cane! If wearing a hat with a ribbon at the back then make sure to sew the tails up so they are not visible. It also looks much more professional to sew /pin your number to your jacket rather than use the crappy stuff they give you to tie it round your waist. A good tip is to also cut the corners off your number so it is rounded. Just looks so much neater and the judges really notice.

Hope that helps!

Thanks guys. Very informative answers. The filly is currently 5 months.

Stunning pics and a stunning horse. I love his markings on his legs.

Ah, then a slip would be better than in hand bridle. Dark coloured trousers if your horse has white legs and pale trousers if your horse has dark legs.

Thanks! They are his 'reverse socks' lol!

Good luck with your filly, do you have any pics of her??

Ok thanks.

I dont have her yet. She arrives next month. But if you Google Penpont Petal. Then you will see her. Although shes changed colour again lol.

pretty much as above - trousers in a colour different to legs, shirt and tie either a tweed coat or waistcoat and either a blue hat or flat cap, jod boots or chunky shoes

foal is a chunky sort and is not really a show pony type so in your case turn out in a plain browband as a hunter pony type. A filly slip rather than a bridle of course when the youngster has more of a mane it should be plaited and a tail plait is fine for a youngster but for now you couldn't do much with it

When I went to have a look at their youngstock, I had been told that the person wanting to buy Bruce, Petal and two of the others had just been made redundant and was having to think about which she would have. I kept an eye on the website to see when each of them had deposits put down :)

She seemed like a realy nice foal, very chilled out and very pretty :)

I see. I looked at their website before and Petal was reserved. I was so pleased when she became available again. I do feel sorry for the person who originally wanted her though.
