Can anyone recommend a GOOD reliable insurer for my yearling filly? Just cancelled E&L policy as haven't heard anything good, so where to try next?

Valued @ £1000 (would prefer £3k but assume will make policy too expensive), want vets fees & public liability as well. No tack cover or anything else needed.

At £1k value, NFU just quoted £293.71 pa or 11x £27.51 pcm.

Anywhere else do it cheaper? I've got 2 others plus a trailer insured with NFU already and it's getting jolly expensive adding a 3rd horse. Looking to get policy costs down.

I'm with Pet Plan but only have the horse with them - trailer has been sold.

SEIB have an article in the latest issue of the BHS mag, just had a quick flick through and it says if you keep your trailer at home they'll give you a saving of up to 25% on the standard premium and there are extra discounts for Equitrek trailers.

Worth a try if you haven't tried them already??

ETS - sorry, meant to say it also says discounts available if you insure both horse and trailer. Number is 0845 450 0654. No - I don't work for them!!!

My yearling is with Pet Plan, £225 per year, £18 per month, valued at 5K, excess is £500 which I suppose makes the premium cheaper.

if you insure under "horses at grass" then you can insure for less than a tenner with pet plan!!!!!!
i have insured my welsh a filly with them using this option and have public liability and vets fees with thier normal excess. nine pounds and a few pence!

I have horse and pony insurance (broker somewhere in guilford) which is underwritten by allianz. Its £21.00 a month for my 3 year old 16.1 valued at 1500k -obv will change once backed and rocking and rolling - £5k vets fees and public liabilty and £20k personal injury for myself. I know people at allianz so confident I wouldnt have a prob with paying out.

This includes cover for showing and breaking etc. They do 11 months for price of 12 when you do dd each month.

I know an NFU underwriter and he said sadly NFU dont do a policy for youngsters and tend to be on the expensive side as you just get a normal policy ie to cover everyhting. That is what I found when I got a quote.

I didnt have him insured til this year but third party through BHS I paid a costly mistake. He got stung or bitten in the field = elephant leg took days took over a week to go down - and when it did the bite mark was apparent like he had got a snake bite or something so hot and swollen vet came every day for four days plus emergency call out the eve I found him in the field wioth said elephant leg -couldnt walk had anti inflams and had to be sedated as he hadnt been in a stable before for too long and also had to have leg scanned to check everything OK - I just started a new job - had I had insurance I could quite gratefully deposited him at horse hospital and let them deal with -instaed I got a hefty bill way more than a years premium -wont be making that mistake again-lesson learnt!

Just tried PatPlan but because I'm taking her out in the trailer to the Futurity and maybe some shows, have to go up to group 2. They quoted £376.82 pa! Or just at grass option £208.54. That was with the regular vet cover. Their HiXS is too high an excess at £500.

Still looking......

My 4yo is now with NFU as IMO they do the best cover for a working horse, however as a youngster at grass I insured him with KBIS for about £14 a month, KBIS have far more flexability in their policies.

I've just got too many horses - another foal on the way next Spring too

Anyone know of anywhere that does BULK cover for us owners with a growing band of nags to insure?

My yearling is insured with Pet Plan, just for £1k but with £3k vets fees. It costs £13.50 a month.

If you have more than one horse, tis is cheaper to not have Public Liability on each one, but to be a BHS Gold Member

Saved me £150 a year in premiums
Pus you get the ther advatagesof being BHS Member=
eg free ticket for RIHS, discountonthigns from BHS shop, etc etc

Yes, but the vet excess would be £500 which is just too much for me to contemplate. £120 or £150 excess is BAD enough when something happens. Mmmmm, dunno. It's just all SO expensive.

The actual sum insured doesn't seem to make a massive amount of difference to the premiums (with NFU anyway). I've got one yearling insured for £1k and the other for £2k, both insured for £5k vet fees public liability and personal accident and the difference in premiums between the two of them is only about £3-4 a month.
