Considering buying a yearling Highland.
I have stables and a couple of acres at home so wonder if youngstock livery is best or to get a couple of companions ,preferably another youngster to play and socialise with and have at home which I would prefer
My older horse is on livery as I like access to an arena esp in winter but I also have a 6 Yr old rescue pony 13.2 which my daughter rides who is super sociable and has lived in a herd before us.
She could come home as she's super easy
I have had a youngster previously with 2 older mares but is age important.

I’d go for you stock livery myself at a recommended and experienced stud…not for example the stud that shall not be mentioned on here.

If horses are barned over winter I’d take care to choose somewhere that did not overstock it’s barns

Mine goes away in the winter and comes back in summer. Hes 3 now and I think this will be the last time he goes. It has done him a lot of good and Id repeat the pattern if I bought another young highland

As long as you get a youngster/ youngsters of similar age for the little one to play as part of the herd I cannot see the difference of a herd at home or youngstock livery. My young horse was in a mixed age herd for 2 years with 2 others a year younger than her, and about 8 older, she is very socialised and has lovely manners.
