Here's my horsey 2010 - quite eventful!

Jan - continuing my weekly lessons at a riding school. Jumped my first cross pole.

Feb - started talking about getting a horse to share with someone (with much, much more experience than me!). First thing to look at was where were could keep it. Asked a horsey neighbour if she had room - no, but she was looking after a horse that wasn't being ridden and I was welcome to ride her. Went for my first hack.

March - Took said horse on loan. VERY scary, loads to learn, mad panic about whether she should wear a rug, couldn't catch her, scared of other horses in field, oh my god what have I done.

April - First solo hack. Lighter evenings mean more riding, and I"m getting more confident.

May - I've fallen for this horse.

June - Very scary incident when the girl I was hacking with fell off onto the road. I will NEVER ride without a hat or my mobile and having to ring the ambulance for my unconscious (hat wearing) friend.

August - Went over my first big log (about 2ft square, but a big achievement for me!!)

September - Bought old jeep with towbar.

October - Bought horse. Now only riding at weekends.

November - 1st go at driving with a trailer - hahahaha

December - Snow?? No riding for weeks because of the icy roads! Rubbish!

2011??

The big plan is lessons so I can learn to jump properly. Maybe build up to some fun rides. :)

Hm.

Recovering nicely from a bleed on the brain (September '09).

Moved yards. Last one was nice, but too far away, so needs must :D

New one was interesting, but local, so put up with the less than attractive parts.

Started riding every day. Getting up at five to ride then drive the eighty miles to work. Was brilliant. Felt so alive (even though I'm not a morning person!).

Little Cob went lame, came back into work slow and steady, thought all was okay.

July - our house went on the market. To date it's the ususal story, everyone who wants to buy it has to sell their own first. We await with interest!

31st July - I came off and broke my back at L2. Luckily had a BP on which stopped me from being paralysed :D (broke it when I landed on my feet after falling off at the apex of the jump - oops). Didn't know it was broken and got back on... Now no riding until February 2011.

31st July - LC went lame. Work up at the AHT shows 'something' neurological and take up on the Sacroilliac joint. Field rest for however long it might take. Got the Bowen lady to him. Noticeable difference. So now, when the snow goes, will try and bring him back into work.

September - moved yards. There is just our neds and the YO is very nice.

November - got Grey Mare on loan from our instructor. D1 having a whale fo a time, or was before the snows came! Still, fingers crossed she gets to BS this coming season. They make a right pair lol.

December - claimed Loss of Use on Dizzy. Will never jump her again. We are indeed The Happy Hackers.

December - my amazing husband said I could have another horse (for those not in the know, that will make five and he, although he is non-horsey, looks after them along with D1).

Hm. Roll on 2011 - see what you have to keep us entertained! :D

This looks like fun :)

January - Very cold! Looking after and riding a little 12.2hh that I have ridden since I was 9. Just got my confidence jumping :)

February - Still cold! Starting to realize how close GCSEs are but still playing with Pinza! Also riding this little 11.2hh, Tansy!

March - Harley turned up. Supposedly my project but I wasn't impressed!

April - My current pony Charlie arrived. Love at first sight!

May - Took Pinza on a sponsored ride with Gill and Dylan

June - Did my first dressage test on Charlie and got 79.8% :D so thrilled

July - Had to say goodbye to Pinza :'( he returned to his owners in suffolk. Still miss those carefree hacks.

August - Did my pony club rallies and hunter trial on Charlie. These changed my riding completely. I may not be Mary King yet but my confidence grew like i would never imagine.

September - More rallies, confidence positively overflowing now!

October - Wellie the Elephant turned up. Managed to get him going quite nicely :) ALso went to Ballinasloe horse fair in Ireland which was amazing. Said goodbye to my riding instructor :(

November - Bought a dressage saddle. Transformed Charlie's movement :)

December - Went affiliated showjumping on a ticket and came second :D

My riding has changed so much this year :') Charlie has changed me completely. He really is a dream come true :)

Thats a fab year alcraw!
You have alot to look forward to then mrs m. Getting back in the saddle will come round quicker than you think!!
We moved house back in march and we put ours on the market and had the same thing as you! Then we went and looked at a new house on an estate they were still building and we part exchanged!! was perfect! Our old house wasnt amazing by any means! And the area had gone down hill which is why we wanted to move. The house we wanted was a 3 storey town house, Brand new at £189.000 they offered us £146.000 for ours after 3 independent evaluations!! so we moved in to our new house and that was that! they ended up selling our old one at a loss and only got £136.000 for it. It took best part of 6 months to sell so we were lucky that we went with the part exchange! Took the house off our hands!

Horse wise, we've met several goals. We won classes - I actually feel like I might be 'the competition' :D I even won a trophy.
We were RC champion and reserve champion in 2 classes.
Dressage wise - we got placed at unaff dressage, more ribbons.....

Since the weather became nasty, Star has been turned away, more or less. As far as Star has been concerned it's been a good year.

It's just as well, because otherwise, it's been a **** year.
January - my son was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
February - Dad gets double pneumonia and admitted to hospital.
June - brother in law diagnosed with renal cancer and has been given about 2 years.
July - Father in law's partner had a stroke.
November - she had a further stroke/heart attack and died.
December - Oh's cousin died of brain cancer, and cousin's sister (my age and Mrs mega fit) had a serious heat attack.

1 more week left of this bl**dy year, then a fresh start.

Jan/Feb - Went well, went hunting in the snow in Feb which was fab!

March - Moved to new yard with Indoor and Outdoor schools. Competed my youngster in his first ever SJ comp and had 1 down in the first clear round, jumped clear in the second clear round and got a DC and came 3rd in the 65cm! :) Rode my spotty pony in the same show, got 2 clear rounds, won the 75cm and came 3rd in the 85cm. Youngster also did his first Dressage comp (Prelim 7) and got 67% and came 4th! Spotty pony also did a very nice test but didn't get placed.

April - The weather warmed up so me and the spotty pony started going out for lots of long hacks. :)

May - Did another SJ with the boys. Spotty pony won the 75cm again! and came 4th in the 85cm, and youngster stepped up a couple of levels this time and jumped round the 75cm and 85cm classes but unfortunately had one down in each class. Also, I did a 13 mile sponsored ride with the spotty pony this month (although it ended up being about 17 miles as we got lost! We moved the two oldies to a new yard closer to home too this month and also got a puppy.

June - Got a new job as a groom/rider. It has turned out to be my ideal job! :)

July - Competed one of the youngsters at work in his first ever competition (he had only been broken in for 10 weeks, and had been ridden by me for the last 6!) We did Prelim 1 and got 53%. :) We sadly had to have our old boy pts this mont

August - Did another SJ comp with the boys. Spotty pony jumped a DC in the 75cm and did a super fast jump off but we got eliminated due to me jumping an extra fence by mistake! :o We came 5th in the 85cm though. :) Jumped my youngster in 75cm and 85cm classes again but unfortunately had one down in the 75cm and one refusal in 85cm due to me not collecting him up enough in between a double.

September - Took the spotty pony cubbing. He was awesome and jumped his socks off! He was very bold and spent the whole morning up at the front! :) Did some gridwork with my youngster to get him jumping off his hocks and to make him think a bit more. Also, did a Dressage comp on my youngster and got 67% and won! :D

October - Did a Sponsored Hunt Ride with the spotty pony who was very lively and jumped everything I asked him to jump. Competed spotty pony in an SJ comp and came 4th in the 75cm and 5th in the 85cm. Competed both the boys in a Dressage comp and decided to do two tests this time. We came 2nd in one and won the other! :D My spotty pony who 'doesn't do' Dressage did his best ever test and came 3rd with 63%. :) Also moved house, this month.

November - Competed my youngster in a Dressage comp and came 3rd in one test and 4th in the other. Was meant to be doing a Hunt Fun Ride with the spotty pony but it was cancelled because of the snow. Got another 2 part time jobs this month as well as my other one and became a self employed groom/rider. Moved the little pony home and got another pony on loan to keep her company.

December - Had planned to take my spotty pony hunting three times this month but it has all been cancelled because of the snow. :( So just been hacking out and schooling the boys this month.

Sorry, this has been so long! Didn't think I had done that much this year but by writing it down, I have realised I have done quite a lot! I'm now looking forward to 2011! :)

January - nothing really happened apart from snow. Shetland coped well :)

April - I think i started the trec season but i cant remember :L

Rode in the Pro-am Trec challenge at windsor horse show and won £1000 which payed for my competition season!
Windsor.jpg

June - Went to america and secured a job for when i next go over there! This is George an ex racer i rode whilst i was over there..
George.jpg

Also went to Saratoga racetrack and watched the flat racers train (Which is incredible!)

August - Did my second level 4 indivdual trec and came 3rd :D
Came 4th at the GB TREC Champs in North wales (Level 3 indivdual), also was in english nations cup team which won :)

March/April - search is on for a horse after a 10 year break

End of April - I take a huge chance & a horse is bought - a TB, ex-racer straight off the track

May - things are going brilliantly, horse is a dream to ride and I couldn't be happier.

June/July/August - hooves start breaking up. He can't keep shoes on and keeps pulling them off & getting abscesses. We manage 3 rides in 9 weeks :(

End of Aug - decision made to go barefoot. He's back in action, but throws me badly so I'm out of action.

Sept/Oct - all is well again, going brilliantly barefoot, first hunt ride accomplished & several trips to local plain with friends. We have our first gallop & he behaves beautifully. I'm in love.

Nov - sudden major lameness. Fracture suspected, but sighs of relief all round as hock infection diagnosed. Out of action again.

Dec - snow, ice, horse out of action again due to infected splinter wound in cheek. I develop tennis elbow in BOTH elbows & am also out of action. Decision made to turn him away until end of Feb.

2011 - here's hoping that I'll be back in the saddle soon, he'll refrain from injuring himself for more than a couple of weeks at a time, we'll start having lessons more consistently and progress will begin to be made.

BRING IT ON I say! :D

January - had a very entertaining session on the gallops falling off a neurotic pointer twice in half an hour. Decided I don't really get on with bonkers, spindly horses!

February - bought my first pony after many years of waiting, due to recent realisations (see January!) bought an unbroken 13.2hh Fell pony.

March - started long reining pony, was left face down in the dirt twice and acquired the biggest blisters I've ever seen!

April - sat on the pony for the first time - much less traumatic than the long reining!

May - now riding pony, including hacking and our first solo hack. We also discover that pony lives on less than fresh air and has turned to a hippo, dieting and weight / grass related paranoia commences.

June - hacking continues - pony learns to hack through pigs, tents and farmyards but decides that the thing that will almost certainly kill him is a large round hay bale! We also go to our local x-country course / hacking tracks for an afternoon out, don't jump but play in the water.

July - we do our first show - and get a first in the in-hand M&M class and reserve champion in-hand. We also do our second show and come last in the in-hand M&M.
We're still weight / fat obsessed!

August - We're still hacking, and fat fighting and do our third show and come second in the in-hand M&M.

September - We start more serious schooling and pony has a sharp shock when instructor gets on and shows me how it's done! Still calorie counting. Learn about stubble fields - weeee!

October - schooling now going well with a change of bit, lunging suddenly clicks after months of thinking it's sole purpose is to drag the numpty owner off her feet!

November - yet more schooling, mainly in the dark. We seem to have the beginnings of lateral work emerging although we haven't tried canter in the school yet due to a lack of balance round corners! Pony also has his first ever clip for which he stood and fell asleep for!

December - grounded by snow, pony has been sat doing nothing for a month. We still worry about fat-ness and are currently still on a diet even with snow on the ground!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! :D

Well, 2010 has brought me so many first...

First ever show jumping show in june- me and starla crashed through the 2' making everyone laugh!

First ever time out with the hounds in September, starla was amazing and didn't let me down!

First ever time saying goodbye to my darling horse late November, who is the sole reason my 2010 has been so wonderful...
