Horse related purchases..

My best..my Bridle... love it!!

My worst.. a headcollar/leadrope combination that he snapped within a day..

Yours??

Best: the horse! :D If that doesn't count, then either his Stubben bridle or his Fal or Rambo rugs - not cheap but durable, anything cheaper hasn't lasted any time at all.

Worst: I did once buy a 'show rug cover' which was a clear rug which went on top of posh show rugs so that you could still see the embroidery etc. It was the noisiest, crinkliest material ever and I couldn't get it within 10 metres of my (completely bombproof) horse!

Worst - fleece rug for my welsh section a that went down past her knees even with the surcingles done up :o

Best - probably her headcollar it's the only one I've found that fits her perfectly :)

Best - Thorowgood T8 saddle, some find it uncomfortable, but it fits my bottom perfectly and my mare! Plus I got 15% off and free p&p!! :D

Worst - £60 pair of second hand regent boots, I swear they were advertised with the wrong sizing, but couldnt find the ad on facebook so couldnt check. But dont fit and since then seen loads of pairs going for around £20! They just sit in my room now making me annoyed - i swear I will lose some weight so they will fit I dont want to lose £40 on them :(

Best - skin and bones Arabian broodmare out of a meatmans feedlot, turned out to be an extremely well bred, and well trained, ex show horse, best trail horse I have ever had.

Worst - bad judgemnet on my part :( Haffy cross from a riding school - little git out of the herd, bolted, bucked, reared, planted, scared the bejesus out of my poor daughter once we got him home - swiftly relocated in exchange for $ + 2 weeks at summer camp.

Lesson learned, I will never, ever, buy anything from a riding school again, or, anything with Haffy blood coursing through its' veins.

Best - my lovely comfy Ideal saddle which I got second hand and is like new.

Worst - waterproof cover to protect said saddle. First time I rode in it it soaked right thru :( back to the drawing board!

best-mountain horse protective jodphur boots-lasted 3 winters and were still waterproof

worst-a poor/impatient/heavy handed farriers time-he was asked to leave before he had finished the job

Best my beautiful Ffion.

Worst a couple of ponies I bought at different times as companions for my horse. Both cheap but both hideously badly behaved in the field, to catch etc!!

Managed to buy another little one who is proving a pig to catch. Today is D day as going to trap her and get a head collar back on her. (she is devious not scared!)

Best a very second-hand Barefoot Cheyenne, got it cheap and it has transformed my school phobic horse into an easy to school, love it all school addict!

Worst horrendously expensive custom made Western saddle which never fitted the horse it was made for.

Horses, mine & projects. For stuff, a nearly new jeffries saddle in my teens & sabre bridle. Both still in daily use & lovely condition now I'm 31.
Worst was a synthetic saddle for daughters pony to replace pony pad last year. Pony has no withers & I'm ultra fussy about saddles also fitting daughter, so really pleased with it, & it was fine on several hacks. Pony however will do the odd, small, no malice bronc in canter if over excited, although rarely does now. Cue saddle & daughter ending up on neck, as girth also then digging in pony continued broncing/bucking in rodeo fashion. Cue small child perched on neck flying through the air & landing several feet away. Luckily both were unharmed & settled enough to ride home bareback minutes after.

Best is for me rather than the horse- my Ariat Grassmeres in the sale!

Worst a 'cheap' 4'9 water proof - the buckles do up just a both the knees! So I keep it as a clean way proof for the shows to wrap around kids legs so not the worst.

Biggest waste of money- my Rambo exercise rug £40 and used it twice in 2 years! But it is beautiful!:p

Best : Probably has to go to my airowear body protector - it's a number of years old now but it fits like a dream and I never even notice when I wear it - fab! :D

Worst : My Gorringe jodhpurs - I hate them, they're a horrible material and the seams rub which means I end up with sores :(

best - mountainhorse long boots - 2nd hand on ebay, but immaculate and still going strong several years later
worst - beautiful dressage saddle - horse retired 2 weeks after buying it and it hasnt fitted any horse since, but i live in hope

best has to be my rambo waterproof full chaps, i live in them in the winter and they keep me dry and warm.

worst buy was a pair of toggi yard boots, never managed to 'break them in' and gave up trying after getting blisters on blisters:mad: i still have them they just provide a refuge for spiders now which is about all they are fit for:rolleyes:

Best : not technically a purchase.. I rescued/adopted a we foal once, on deaths door, only a week old (someone just dumped him on a side of the road) nursed him back to health and he turned out to be a we super star! like a light coby show pony (them we flashy ones)! gorgeous looking and a we darling to work with. pity he only grew to 13.2h, but hes now with a great family who have 3 we boys who are all going to do pony club with him!

Worst: paying £300 for a GPA hat that got nicked at a show :(

best.... Toggi Calgary long boots (the only ones that have ever fit my 2 very different calf sizes {see worst})

worst... brand new Wintec 500 (£400 new, never fitted horse - have scars to prove it {see best}. Sold on ebay - £150)

BEST: My store cupboard!
I used to have shelves do hold all my feed and grooming stuff etc but every so often things would go 'walkies' into someone elses box! Needless to say the box is shut and locked when im not there!

WORST: My saddle(s)
as my mare is so old, her back is constantly changing shape so 5 saddles later we still havent got one to fit! Dont really need one now as she is on 4 months box rest then can only be used for light short hacks which i do bareback anyway :(

Worst: ploddy ex-riding school pony that turned out to be three years old (don't ask...!) and bronced like hell once away from riding school. Lots of broken bones for me that year.

Best: aforementioned pony once he realised he had a home for life and no more being passed from pillar to post. 15 years later he is still my horse for life and I still well up a little bit when I look at how obedient and trustworthy and happy he is compared to the early days (months). :D Even though I've said he's the 'worst' I don't ever regret buying him and love him to bits. (Actually feeling guilty about putting him in the above bit!!)

If ponies don't count...

Worst: Hmm... Not sure. Most recent 'worst' I can think of is a waterproof exercise sheet - only when I unpacked it did I realise I'd bought the square one rather than wraparound (if you know what I mean). I HATE sheets that go under the saddle as I can never get them to stay flat and smooth... Went a bit scissor happy and now have a wraparound sheet :D

Best: my Grasmeres. Not sure how I managed before them.

Best : the horses
Worst: the horses !

... depending on how much of a pain they are being on the day :p !

But really, I love my equi ami training aid- definately a great buy as it really helped muscle up the horses and teach them to work. Love my ariats! sooo comfy :) although mine havent lastest very well :( oh and muzzles.. they have saved my pony from being grossly overweight and lami this year without having to put her in :)

Worst buy was probably every stable rug I have bought.. never used them, useless things.

Worst buy - Equilibrium turnout chaps. Dreadful things. :(

Best buy - My Musto Suffolk coat, bought in a sale, used loads for several years and still going strong. :)

Best (I am having 2) MY new Blaze Gillet, only one to fit my boobs and my waist and not have a hideaously high collar to annoy me and my Ariat Windermeres, comfy, waterproof and don't rub and haven't collapsed at the ankle!

Worst - Waterproof saddle cover, wore it once, the colour of it rubbed off on the saddle, which wasn't mine and was a nightmare to get off! Plus the saddle I bought with my horse that fit him for 6 weeks until he slimmed out of it!

Best- My Mountain Horse short boots, bought them in 2004 and they died in 2011!! Amazing, wore them everyday!

Worse- A bridle I bought in the sale from Robbies, got it home and it was caked in something sinister- wasn't in the bargain bin btw, it was hung up- and it was really weird and didn't fit properly had funny buckles etc on it:o

My material bridle, didn't cost much and goes in the washing machine so I don't have to clean it and it doesn't matter how wet or muddy it gets

Worst: a fly rug (without neck etc just like a normal rug) as he was petrified of it and you couldn't get near him with it! Fortunately it was fairly cheap but still can't sell the poxy thing :(

Ooh I have so many best. Probably either my ariat Windermere boots or my little mini quiet clippers I use on horses face and legs.

Worst is probably the two made to measure saddles we bought our tb which both didn't fit and did more damage than good.

Worst: The wintec saddle I bought, brand new. Within a month it broke, wont ever waste my money on a wintec again thats for sure. Dont have the money to replace it so we're making do for now

Best: Ohhhh I dont know, nothing really jumps out

Best - Got to be my Ariat Grassmeres - the only long boots that fit me, and they keep my Raynauds afflicted tootsies warm in the cold of winter.

Worst - Hoof oil brushes - I
buy them, use them twice, then the head falls off. as they are cheap, I chuck them and buy another, but the exact same thing happens. I never learn...

Best, my Albion dressage saddle...love it, fits my boy perfectly and soooo comfortable!!

Worst, a pair of knee boots! (!) still not sure why, damn things kept slipping down, no matter how tight they were....soon headed straight to the bin!!
