Anyone had any really good bargins from the charity shop?

I bought some fab caldene jodphurs the other week for £2 :O
Also a caldene show jacket for £4 and harry hall winter coat for £6 !

wonder if i'm just very lucky or anyone else picks up bargins at the charity shop !

My OH bought this child's riding jacket for £2.50! It doesn't fit her now.

I got my first show jacket for a few pounds; would still have it had I not been bought a fancy one as a present. Otherwise just lots of books (I'm obsessed with horse books).. Equine car boot sales are another good source of stuff, most of which I don't actually need though :o

Not charity shop but car boot bargains... A nummed half wool numnah for £7 a lemuix wool gp numnah for £7 both is good condition. 3 pairs of brand new jodphurs, caldene harry hall and another brand for £12 I love bargains!

I got a hardly worn Musto combination jacket for £3 a few years ago. It didn't have a price on it so I asked at the til, when she said 'Oh, how about £3', I paid instantly and scarpered quickly!!!

i got some spurs for £1 because the woman in the shop didn`t know what they were.

(i said i wasn`t sure either but my daughter collects stuff lol )

A few years ago went into the local Air Ambulance shop and there was a pair of Caldene jods: obviously been worn maybe once or twice, probably someone had tried riding and didn't fancy it. Price was £3.75 AND they were in my size! So I snapped 'em up PDQ. The price for them new, at that time, was about £37!!! So a real bargain. I'm still wearing them now. Fab.

A brand new show jacket and very good make of tweed, two wool waistcoats, spurs and straps fro £21!

Same shop 2 weeks ago 4 Joules tops hardly worn will fit son next year, for £1.50 each:D

I can be found in there most weeks having a rummage, on the non horsey side, a three piece outfit, brand new still with Per Una tags on for the bargain price of £9!

wow you guys must have good charity shops around you - i've never seen any horsey clothing in any here at home, mind you i'm not in them very often! maybe i should make it my weekly mission haha, i'm always looking for cheapies!

I've never seen anything horsey in any of the shops near me either, unless broken horse figurines count :p

I bought a Barnsby bridle with it's original 1970's tags once from the RSPCA shop for £8. It didn't fit the pony I needed it to fit so I put it on ebay and got more for it!

I sometimes see jods or riding boots but being tall, a size 16 and a size 8 foot, nothing is ever in my size so always have to buy new :(

I live in the middle of the city. I don't think we get stuff like that in our charity shops :( I want jods for £3! And deffo a beagler for £4

Not in charity shop but at a car boot a Thorowgood 15" saddle used twice for £5 !! and a pair of Fillis stirrup irons for £3 :)

Shoo, what a find!!

I go charity shopping every week, but am yet to find anything horsey.

I have seem some amusing things at antique shops though. A stainless steel eggbutt snaffle bit labelled as 'vintage horse riding bit' and priced at £30!!!. Always see those old stiff and cracked leather saddles with the serge panels, labelled 'Vintage hunting saddle: £50!!!.

Iam a volunteer in a charity shop I do a Monday morning(subject to where in country Iam working) The list of bargins I have had is too long to mention, both horsey and none horsey. I got a bottle of Dermoline Kill Itch for 99p,An Equifleece dog jumper for my sisters terrier for 99p, A Locks of London bowler hat, for £1.99(gave that to a friend), various Shires and Harry Hall Rugby style tops, my dog has more designer collars that I have shoes! The list is endless. We dont get any discount for working there. Iam upstairs doing the sorting bit, and Iam like a child in a sweet shop rummaging thro the bags!!! I havnt bought any new clothes for about 2 years, I absolutly love it.

Just this morning I got a pair of Dublin purple/lilac jods for 99p. Not everybody's cup of tea but they are fine for everyday use and so comfortable!

I have about 5 charity shops near me and I never go in them. I will deffiently start though! hope to find some of the bargains you all have!

I do a bootsale once a month and always have a nosey round at the other stalls but yet to find anything Horsey, I was selling a BP though, about 10 people asked why I was selling a bullet proof vest! someone also offered me 20P for my brand new Joules top because they liked the colours.

i used to be a manager of a charity shop, we didnt get any horsey stuff in but we had strict rules re sorting items and staff/volunteers buying stuff. You couldnt price it yourself, no volunteer could price it if one of them/a staff member was wanting it (had to be management), it HAD to go on the shop floor for 48 hours at least in order for the general public etc to buy it if they wanted to. And TBH, it was priced accordingly - no 'favours' of low pricing. Out staff and volunteers did get 10% discount though on items.
I know it wont be the same for all charity shops, i guess its when horsey people volunteer etc at some that it means it never hits the shop floor hence others dont get the bargins!
i know stuff can only be sold once, but... if a customer gets something really exciting - they WILL come in again, so, if a horsey person had of come in, if they got a horsey bargin, they would come back in again and again to see if they could find another, if say, i had bought it straight away, they may come in, nothing horsey, they never come in again and the charity stuffs with 1 less customer. thats the theory behind it anyway.

i always recall we had some brand new F&F stuff, there was a really niceeee top i really wanted, i prayed it didnt sell when out on the shop floor, it did... BUT.. it was returned... it sold again.. grrrr... it was returned again! yipeeee! the regional managed knew how i had been watching the top as i had told her how it was returned, i was happy but sold again that day. Well, i tried it on in my lunch break, i knew why it had been returned a few times, it was a dreadful fit! needless to say... it was back on the shop floor and sold quickly again but this time wasnt returned thankfully!

About 4 years ago now I got a BRAND NEW full length black Drizabone Riding coat for £8 in a local charity shop. It had obviously only just been donated and was hung on the back of the "sorting room" door. I had to ask how much and I actually felt really guilty when the lady said "do you think £8 is fair?" as I know it was worth so much more and was for charity - but of course I agreed and handed over the cash!

Not a charity shop as such, but my former employer (a big showground) had a lost property box that they would sell off to staff once a year for charity. I got a brand new Puffa jacket for £5!
