Yes I'm aware of those, part of my job includes supportibg clients on various different benefits.

I'm still in a deep level of denial about my diagnosis and I hope for it never to get to the point where I can't support myself. But something to think about down the line depending. But thank you for raising this.

There is no way that my post was 'aimed' at you, but just pointing out to people in general on here that there is a trust to cover most eventualities that often people are not aware of.

Then the horses and tortoise (daughter has already made it very clear she does not want to inherit the tortoise!)

I would love to take your tortoise but I think it might be a wee bit difficult to get into the USA!

My family knows that Freddie goes back to her breeder if anything happens to me. Ralph would probably have to go back to the animal control where I got him. I would hope that a friend or family member would take him though.

These are things that I've had to plan with my severe depression and health problems.

Both of mine would go back to their breeder - I haven't done a will, perhaps this has reminded me that I should, but I know they would take them in an instant. They are Facebook friends of mine and keep up to date with my daily postings of the dogs activities :)

I honestly wouldn't know. Its not something I've really thought of but I suppose I should.
Cecil would stay with my daughter, In fact he would be perfect as when she has her own place it would give company to her dog Basil so, I think several people would quite like him anyway!
Bertie might be more of an issue. Then the horses and tortoise (daughter has already made it very clear she does not want to inherit the tortoise!)
My two tortoises went to Sparkwell Zoo (now the Dartmoor Zoo) about 40 years ago - we’d moved house and just couldn’t keep them safe. I hope they’re now hale and hearty and much bigger!

For obvious reasons I am currently in the process of sorting things out as best I can to make my passing as easy as possible for Mr. J and my son. Just in case of course. 😕 In particular for my son who is already bearing the brunt of caring for my animals. Mr j isn't getting any younger so it would not be fair or practical to leave their care to him.

The dogs already think they belong to my son, the donkeys and Dolly adore him, but due to certain circumstances beyond our control, Dolly will probably already have been PTS. My son luckily is more than happy with taking over ownership as they are all as much a part of his life as mine.

It's not a nice thing to have to think about and do, I only wish I had sorted things sooner. I would urge even you younger folk to leave clear instructions and provision sooner rather than later. None of us can know how suddenly our circumstances can change.
