HBII is doing her first ever dressage comp on Sunday. I think I am more nervous than her

She is a lovely rider and I am very proud of her

We were discussing this (on the way back from McD's..) and the wuss that I am admitted that I would rather go hunting anyday than do even a walk and trot test. HBII would rather do five tests than go hunting once.

So what is your favourite thing? Dressage, hunting, SJ, XC, hacking, driving, schooling, endurance etc etc
smile.gif

And what gives you nightmares
grin.gif

I don't have a favourite. I enjoy hacking, schooling, dressage, SJ, XC (but haven't done it for ages). I think the only thing that genuinely makes me terrified is hunting. Even watching the hunt goes past gives me butterflies in my stomach

Oh my fave thing by a million miles is competing in dressage!! I enjoy sj'ing and x country and quite happy to jump whatever is in front of me but give me a dressage comp any day
smile.gif
I also love shcooling! Guess my least fave thing is showing!

Love dressage, hunted as a youngster but think I don't have the bottle now, very windy when it comes to jumping but am actually quite good at it, terrified of xc but when I've done it it's all I want to go and do, over and over again! Love hacking, have no problems being called a happy hacker. Hvae only driven once and found it really strange having no legs to use! Would love to do more of this. Find schooling boring but love having lessons, love pleasure/endurance, horses love it, they behave beautifully, lovely scenery, new horizons.

I dont think anything gives me nightmares once I am doing it. DR is a doodle to me (not that I find it easy) as its more relaxed and calm. I only used to get very nervous team chasing, as I would just sit on Flint and not move until I was made to, but once I got going I was fine.
I also find i get nervy riding infront of people I do not know

My favourite has always been showjumping. I used to love XC but not done it for a while now so i think it might take a bit of getting used to again.I dont know why but i've never been too keen on hacking out, i get really nervous, i'd rather school anyday.

Looks like everyone finds dressage/schooling a doddle - I'm really rubbish at it

I enjoy hacking/hunting - anything in straight lines

Haha - no defo not a doddle but that's why I love it, I find it fascinating learning how each horse ticks and the whole process of training. I could do it all day every day!

Hmmm, least favourite probably showing, but then I've never done much of it. Hunting frightens me a bit on my horse as he is a bit of a nutter but loved it on borrowed horse!
Enjoy jumping the most really, SJ first then XC second favourite. I do also love my dressage lessons now, bl**dy hard work but the instructor I have makes such improvements in an hour, its amazing!

In order
Dressage my biggest love
Showing When i cant do dressage

Jumping, Hunting,Xc, and Hacking fill me with a full blown fear although we are working on the hacking at the moment

I even find it difficult to keep pony straight on the track so the thought of doing a test fills me with dread
crazy.gif

However, I've had a trailer for Xmas
smile.gif
so I am planning lots and lots of lessons!

I hope to have a go at XC too, for some reason it seems more appealing than SJ??

You should go for it, I bet you'll get addicted to dressage in no time!
Yep I too prefer x country to show jumping - it's like an assualt course on horseback hehe, much more fun than plain old show jumps!
grin.gif

Depends which horse I'm riding
tongue.gif

Generally I love hunting and jumping best... but on the horse that I loaned for a year I was very frightened... but I was actually frightened of him in general... New one - can't wait to take hunting and nothing he has done so far scares me
grin.gif

I quite like the schooling and flatwork too... although don't get quite the same buzz from it....

Jumps over 3ft 6 frighten me tho...

When I rode...
I always loved having lessons, whether they were dressage, jumping or hacking (to help with a bucking bronco!).
Always incredibly nervous before dressage tests but liked it once I was doing my test but it was over too quickly.
Show-jumping I always really enjoyed.
Cross-country filled me with terror...until I did it on a small scale and found out it was fun! but couldnt really say I totally enjoyed it, the bigger the fences the more I thought about them being so solid and never liked trakeheners!!!
Loved hacking.
Liked showing but found it could be quite frustrating.
Did do long distance but not endurance - though would have liked to have given it a go.
Raced on a racecourse once...and that was brilliant.
Never driven..so no idea if I would like it!
Never hunted...not my thing.

I like hacking and I really enjoyed our first dressage outing and I like practising a bit of dressage in the school. Also enjoyed popping over our first jump recently.

Hunting and XC would terrify me, but I would love to go to a XC course with tiny tiny jumps and have a go!

My favourite and nightmare pastime is the same
crazy.gif
, riding in Point-to-Points. I'm absolutely petrified before the race, to the point of feeling sick, teeth chattering and looking like I might pass out.
shocked.gif
But once we're going and jumped the first fence it's the most amazing feeling ever, there's nothing quite like galloping in a big group, jumping big fences, feeling my lads heartbeat through my boots, hearing the horses breathing and the other jockeys various "encouragements" to their horses.
smile.gif
For those 6 1/2 mins, nothing else in the world exists for me.

I have done RC dressage and novice SJ. I find dressage is much more nerve racking because you're being judged on how effective a rider you are and how well your horse is going. In the jumping all you have to do is leave the jumps up - it doesn't matter if you're not the most elegant rider in the world. But it is dressage I really want to do with her so I'll just have to keep getting the lessons and try and improve!

fav is grooming and cuddling the pones closely fopllowed by hacking in the countryside. Show jumping is terrifying , indeed any competative thing is and I HATE showing.

Hate dressage, I get very grumpy and stressed when having to do it! Also don't like showing unless of course, I win! But HATE the feeling when you make the effort to tart the horse up and as soon as you come into the ring, the judge totally ignores you. Complete waste of time. Or when you're in the line up with individual shows going on - god that can be SO mind-numbingly boring! Especially if its a hot day... and horse goes to sleep and then you've got to get him going nicely immediately when pulled forward. Agh. Oh and hacking is also terrifying (hence why I very rarely do so).

Am happiest when jumping, either SJ or XC. XC is probably my favourite past time.
