As the title really, it's always good to know where is good to take the hound for a stomp across the countryside.

My favourite place (especially in the spring and early summer ) would be Bolton abbey in North Yorkshire. It is also part of the dales way.

So where do you like to get to? Or any walking sites that have good dog walks? Any dog friendly pubs worth a visit?

I haven't posted on here for a while, but I do look in from to time to see what's going on. Anyway, I can recommend lots of good walks in and around West Lothian. There is a railway path that links Uphall with Pumpherston, Almondel Country Park (also great for walking) and East Calder. It's probably about four miles long and has some very pretty scenery. I couldn't recommend the Union Canal walks enough. I think the canal is at least twenty miles long and there are plenty of access points. I recently discovered the Linhouse circular (about two-and-a-half miles long) which you can get onto from Oakbank and Murieston in Livingston. You can also access the Linhouse Nature Reserve from it (although you do have to negotiate a couple of stiles in order to get over a level crossing and you have to keep your wits about you as it is quite a busy railway line). Beecraigs Country Park (not far from Linlithgow) is also lovely and there is a really nice restaurant there, but it's not dog friendly. There is a pub/restaurant in Portobello called the Espy that allows dogs (pub area only) and it specializes in really tasty burgers. My Mum and I took our (then only) dog to Creetown (in Dumfries and Galloway) last year and stayed a few nights in a dog friendly hotel called the Ellangowan. The rooms were a little bit run down, but the staff were friendly and the food was fabulous. We stopped at the Marrbury smokehouse for something to eat (sat outside as they don't allow dogs inside) and the waitress came out with a bowl of fresh water and a huge Bonio for Brochan. :) We also went to Kirkcudbright and sat outside a tearoom called the Harbour Lights for a rather nice lunch. One of the servers came out with a big handful of treats for Brochan. There was also a big bowl of water for passing dogs. In fact quite a few of the shops and restaurants had water bowls outside. As for walking. The best we came across was the forestry surrounding the area where we were staying. Hundreds of acres of unspoilt woodland where you can get plenty of peaceful walks. In fact Galloway Forest Park was the first dark skies park in the UK. There are also quite a few beaches, but getting to them can be quite tricky. Another fantastic place for walking is Tentsmuir beach and forest. It's several miles long and about the best place to get to it is through Leuchars (just outside St. Andrews). It's horse friendly too. I also love the coastal walk between Cellardyke and Crail (the village I used to live in). Craigies Farm (just outside South Queensferry) is also good for walking. However, some of the surrounding woods can be really churned up due to the horses and trail bikes that go through them. There is a farm shop and restaurant there too. It has an outdoor area for sitting with you dogs. It even has a small menu for dogs. Take a look at here. I'll try and upload pictures of some of the places I have mentioned.

My area is fab for walks, south Herts, very horsey too! Loads of rivers, commons, parks, woods. :)

My favourite walk is around the woods at Woburn. Only trouble is my absolute favourite walk here is now popular at all times of day with gentlemen who don't particularly want to walk their dogs :-(

It's 20 miles to central town where you live.... I'll come your way or we can meet in middle. :)

Houses all surveyed etc. so up to solicitors now to do all paperwork. Think well be installed by early November. Jaffa following on shortly after :)
