I just love going to new tack sops and will travel miles to visit a new one especially if they have interesting and different things. With the internet it seems some of my old favourites are closing down :(

So tell me, what is your favourite tackshop, past or present and why? :D

YES! I think I'm going to like this thread - it's about horses AND shopping, my two favourite subjects.
OK,. I'm in Hong Kong so obviously everything has to be done online. Equestrian clearance Warehouse has been super-dooper. But, when I come to England at Easter I plan to visit catlips. I'll be watching this thread to see if any good ideas come my way.

I love Equikro in Edinburgh www.equikro.co.uk They have a big range of clothing from very reasonable to the top end stuff. The have just about everything there and also quite often have really good sales. I am still kicking myself for not buying the lovely horsey fleece my that was in the last sale. There is loads of present type things, ornaments etc too. There is also a wee seating area at the back with a sofa and tea and coffee and biscuits. The staff are really helpful and friendly too. we quite often have a wee meet up there. nice for us and good for their business lol. On line I like equestrian clearance and 4dobbin.co.uk

I like R+R and Rideaway.....both large enough for a good old nose around...plus they are both good on-line too.

My local feed merchants is a good tack shop for your lotions/potions and basic stuff but yeah, a few local to me have closed down over the last couple of years. I guess when you can shop online and pay for next-day delivery ( whilst working:cool:) its easier than waiting until you have a day off and spending riding time travelling around shopping......

I love Rideaway too and even though I live in the south I make regular visits there. Have not heard of R+R Where are they?

Glad you are all gonna like this thread, Although internet shopping is great it is much more exciting visiting tack shops especially if you find an Aladins cave type one! :D

Robbinsons, ebay lol. Goyt mill, aldi in june all ways as horsey bargains. Go out doors as got a sale on at the moment. Lidil had fleece rugs for £7 last week and saddle cloths for £5 and decatlon is ok some times.

Ok Robinsons and Goyt Mill are a given and yes Go Outdoors have a good basic range, but Aldi and Lidil?!?! Are we talking meat and veg here??? If so I could be missing some serious bargains here!!!

Ingatestone in Essex. I love it there, but my bank balance doesn't :p

Online, Rideaway and Ebay.

Aldi and Lidl do the odd Horsey bits. I picked up 2 lovely saddle pads £3.99 each. They wash really well and look lovely. Especially the brown and gold one.

There's a little tack/feed shop just down the road from me. It looks tiny from the outside, but it's like the Tardis- seems bigger inside and stuffed with everything you can imagine!

Also not too far from Robinsons, Scats and Go Outdoors. Never been to Liddl or Aldi though.

Online I mainly use ebay!

Get the mail order catalogues from Rideaway, Premier Equine and Horse and Rider too. Nice to browse those with a cuppa and pen and notepad lol :D

my favorite tackshop closed down, i got my first saddle from there when i was 17, i was really disapointed. Now i have to go to robinsons. Threre is a good one but its in the next county.

LIDL horse fleecey coat £7, great for a cooler after rides on cold days, or just hanging around the stable!

Your tardis tack shop sounds intriguing, where is it?:)

I love Jackie Roberts in the Clent Hills. Although I live a 45-minute drive away, it's so worth going there and the girls are great - really friendly and helpful :)

I love r and r too :)
Am not a fan of rideaway. Last time i went there with a shopping list i bought nothing and ended up driving through to r and r for it all.
Love equestrianclearance online

Buy very little online. I go to Equessentials in my village. Small shop, but whatever I want I find online, then ask her to order from her supplier. That way I get tack shop service and don't pay delivery, plus delivery is normally quicker! Fabulous. She's in Brockham, for you Surrey types. I also like Ashurst Farm feeds in Leigh, but it's in the opposite direction to everything else.

I used to go to Attlees in Dorking, but now only go there if I'm desperate. Too many pink-clad Ariat devotees chatting at the till whilst I'm waiting to buy stuff. I normally pop in when I hear they have a sale rail, though. Willing to break loyalty for a bargain!

There aren't many tack shops around here, and the one closest to me I won't go in anymore because they're continually rude to me so now I mainly shop online. But I've been to Ingatestone when i was down south staying with friends and it was amazing, I definitely want to go again now I've got my own horse to buy for, which I didn't at the time I went in early 2010! I wish I lived nearer to some nice big tack shops!

My local tackshop (situated in a small town in SA) is my favourite. Some of the prices are horrendous, especially with the few upmarket brands they stock, and the choice is so limited many Brits would faint in shock!

BUT when I go in there I'm not asked how I am, but how the horses are (by name, too!) and the staff know the history of my horses, which size each takes of everything, and also are frank enough to say "step away from those brushing boots, you won't like them". They know what my horses and I need, and what we prefer. They also know which farrier has taken to drink and has dropped his standards, which shows are coming up and who'll be in them, and what viruses are doing the rounds in the area. Local knowledge is a wonderful asset!

So despite VERY limited selections, and the need to sometimes get something online, I support my local. We're fortunate to have them, and we need to keep them in business.

NONE of these places mentioned compare to Sandon Saddlery! We do the 140 mile round trip trek there and it's so worth it.

My 2nd fav shop is my local tack shop, Hurst Saddlers, which is also another Aladdin's cave like Sandon. Most of my tack comes from there (if not, from Sandon) including my side saddle habit!

I like tack shops where I can root through piles of stuff for bargains.

Ahhh yes Sandon Saddlery is fab, like going back in a time machine but Miss Dodd-Noble is a one off - I love her! They have only recently stopped wrapping thing up in brown paper :)
