So, I’m really bored and it got me thinking. What is the funniest fall you’ve ever had? Every now and then there’s just one of those falls that so retarded or stupid that it’s just funny. I know I’ve had a few but I thought is everyone shared it’d be a good laugh. Here’s my one:

It was a very long time ago when I was doing the traditional Saturday morning pony lesson, I hadn’t be riding very long, I know I was cantering but it still was a matter of months. Anyway I was on a pony called Lucky (you can see how this is going can’t you!) in the middle and I’d had a great lesson so far and then we were to do “exercises,” it was great, did my touch my toes and around the world, then the tricky one, half scissors (for those who didn’t do these type of lessons you put both legs on the left hand side, right hand on cantle, left on pommel so your arms are crosses, then in one movement you twist so your arms are straight and swing back into the saddle). Now I was always good at this but lucky had other ideas today so just as I was in the crucial position of swinging back into the saddle she did a full body shake! Needless to say I went straight over the top of her and landed on my back with lucky and Rob (pony next in line) looking down at me with “what the f*ck” faces. I just burst out laughing immediately. This was my first ever fall and I’m glad it was as it meant I wasn’t scared of falling for a very long time… (I’ve started to not bounce now…. 21 in12 days!)

So come on, lets hear em! Or I might put some more up!

I read that last sentance of your post wrong, I thought you meant 21 falls in 12 days! Wondered what on earth you had been doing!! I had to re-read to understand its your birthday in 12 days!!

Hmm, a fall that lots of my friends laughed at was when I was at college jumping a grid being taught by an eventer who'd been to badminton that year, and I can't remember what happened at the last jump, think my horse was going to run out and I just remember thinking 'he's going to jump the wing'! Ii happened so fast I just rememember getting up and my friends howling, apparently I'd done a very impressive 'tasmanian devil' impression spinning through the air. I wish it'd been caught on camera!

lol! Indeed it is my birthday, is is a bit of a daft sentance. Liking the tazmanian devil story!

Friend of mine got bucked off in a lesson before a riding club exam and she landed on her feet, holding the reins and her legs still bent! Looked like someone had just taken the horse straight out from under her! Forgetting she had done a full 360 rotation through the air!

Not mine but my sisters! 5'8" sister doing short ride on 14:3 bomb-proof black and white cob, Cob took exception to a piece of carpet at the side of the road, jumped and stumbled, sister sat on the road. The mare looked as if she was trying to pretend that my sister wasn't there, and that it was a strange woman that was climbing up her leg

The most stupid was getting on bareback. The pony was only 13.1, but I was tiny, so quite tricky to get on. I stood next to her, tried to vault, slid back down again. Stood on a block, tried to vault, again didnt make it. Decided what was clearly need was a run up, ran up to her, bounced on block, abd landed on her. Unfortunately I had too much impulsion for her slippy coat and carried on. Fell off the other side, put my arm out and bent it. Cue a week in hospital, 4 hour emergency operation and 13th birthday in hospital. The poor pony didnt even move! The only other time I fell off her was trying to pick a whip off the floor. I steched past the point of return!
The only time I have fallen off of any of our current ones was with a stop at a jump, not even a nadtly stop I was in the wrong place anyway.
The only time I fell off my pony between the one I bend my arm on and the current boys was XC, fence no. 2 was on slightly uneven ground which put me out, had a few refusals before he jumped it, jumping me out the saddle :p.
I also rode Ajay, my 1st pony for a laugh when I was about 12, fell off 5 times, everytime he snatched for grass.
My 1st competition pony I fell off, alot. The week I got her when we didnt agree which way to go after a jump, once just before she was sold cantering being silly and doing 'hunting' style and various other imkitatiobs and she threw a huge buck. In one of my first dressage lessons the teacher told me to use the whip, telling me although she didnt like it I'd be fine, she. bronked and I fell, then she tried holding a lunge whip, same thing happened
tongue.gif
, and then once back on we tried just lifting my whip, again I ended up on the floor

Friend of mine at a show on her welshie type whizzy jumping pony, we're stood outside the ring, and friend decides her spur isn't fitting right. She is so trustful of the mare she lifts her leg up and rests her foot on the mares neck, just below the wither - then she caught the spur in the reins, the mare saw the spur up high, and swiftly dropped a shoulder, bam, onto the grass in one quick easy movement. We all nearly died laughing. And just to prove age makes no difference, the rider was in her 30s when this happened!

The first time I took horsy to the beach with some friends he put his head down to sniff the sand - I thought he was being so cute smelling the new strange things and then with no warning he buckled at the knees and got down to roll. I had to do a sort of somersault off him to avoid disappearing underneath. I was picking sand out of my saddle for weeks. Friends nearly fell off themselves laughing.

My other great moment was getting dumped into the middle of a gorse bush. I had little red dots all over.

I don't call them falls, I call them unplanned dismounts!

when I was really small, about 9 years old, I was riding a little black welshie called prince (was a little devil) in my weekly lesson. I was to canter to the rear of the ride and well...prince had other ideas and just put his head down and pulled me over his head.....I got back on and he did the same thing the funny part was me chasing him round the school....proper Thelwell image

Another one...my friend and I were jumping her ponies bareback, I was on Chas her 13hh-ish pony and she was on her bigger pony shadow....we had been popping over a few fences nicley when she said we would jump the barrels then put them in the field, chas heard field and did a massive leap in the air and I did a fantastic Frankie detorri of his back to land next to him on my feet...was soooooooooooo funny!!!

When my daughter was really tiny, aged three, she was on her shetland pony when he did one on those big all over body shakes that they all do ocassionally and the poor child went flying through the air. Literally shaken off. Didn't put her off ponies though, 20 plus years later she's still riding!

Last year I fell off twice -(last time i fell off must have been a good 20 years ago)....same place, cantering along- horse suddenly stopped dead and threw himself sideways ...at nothing (git) - cue cartoon-like sailing over the head. First time i was on my own, week later, with a friend coming up behind me.. I was supposed to be leading the way, being a bit of a confidence giver and all that.....ably demonstrating a graceful soaring fall and landing on my a** in the grass.......and i'm well into my 30's, so mimimal bouncing!

Stupidest fall was me trying to shut sand school gate. I leant over and just slid off of him in a lump on the ground. Funniest was when my OH rode my friends horse she hadn't done the cinch up on the Western saddle properly and my OH ended up under the belly of of friends horse.

When I was abour 14, I was cantering a trekking pony in the woods and lost a stirrup. Not a problem, I just cantered along with one, trying to retrieve the other one, but to no avail. Then pony came back to trot- the bounciest trot in the world- and without my stirrups I just bounce-bounce-bounced up onto his neck and over the side. I finished up hanging around his neck, with him standing poised over a deep muddy puddle. The trek leader had to get off and rescue me, it's not one of my finer moments!

lol i love the photos!!

this was years ago!.... ivmust have been no more than 10

when i used to ride this little black shetland called Sooty, out in the field with all the other girls on their 12 to 13hh ponies (getting left behind as u can imagine!)
the little bugger had had enough of being left behind took off bucked a few times and stopped dead, i still had both feet in the stirups and hold of the reins but so far forward i had one hand on the ground and was stuck... she decided to walk along eating grass, i couldnt get back up or make myself fall off so i had to walk my one hand along the ground (if u can imagine it!!!)

friends noticed i was missing came back to find me and just laughed! eventally someone pushed me off!

My funniest would be when a riding school horse where i work, (this was a long time ago though i'll add)
I was mid lesson, and being a very novice rider, i relied on the horse to do everything for me, as riding school horses often will. However, this particular day he decided it'd be a really fun idea to teach me a lesson, and mid canter, didnt turn at the corner of the school, but stopped dead at the fence, cue me going straight over his head, and the fence into the field next to it

My silliest - was when I was learning to Jump - lovely little 13hand grey pony. Little jumps all of about 2ft 6 - my jumping position was not natural so after each jump I was still very forward - very clever ponio on landing after each fence but his head down to the floor - cue me rolling down his neck - this must of happened about 8 or 9 times - and after each time I got back on I got more and more stiff through my body - so it just kept happening! My instructor at the time was in hysterics - and by the end compeletly useless as she was crying so much - she was obviously after a good laugh though cos she suggested we went and did the xc jumps instead.

My friend had never ridden a TB type before, always only ever gone for the slightly steadier wider cob types. So one day she was offered a hack on this big TB Intermediate eventer. We got upto the top of the road, turned into a field and the horse didn't even bolt off, just went into competition bouncy canter. She'd never felt an 'upwards' canter before and just kept bouncing higher and higher in the saddle till she bounced up over his head, and I had to chase after horse on mine like some kind of western!

Last day of the season hunting this year - we got bogged very suddenly at a gallop.
The horse went down head first, I landed on the rump of my YO's Grade A showjumper, who was in front of us, and slid off into the mire.
The whole field then stood and watched as I tried to wade out of thigh-deep black goo - the pics of my breeches are in pictures gallery under 'your hunting pics'.

On a junket in Sligo, after a gallop on the beach, we were walking back through the shallow water when my horse stopped and dropped and I had to do a flying dismount before he started rolling.
I then had to get back on the coach dripping wet with all the other journos laughing at the 'experienced rider'.

Mine was when my mare decided to stop dead straight after jumping a small cross pole. Something on the ground caught her eye, and she obviously decided I should check it out. I didn't stand a chance! It was particularly impressive as I had both yard owners there, and a prospective buyer for the horse. I still haven't lived it down at the yard...

My friend's was when she did she was getting back on out on a hack, and did the classic 'get on one side, horse moves off, rider neatly deposited off the other side' all in one flowing movement! It was all in slow motion as well which made it even funnier. The confused look on my friends face still makes me chuckle

I hadn't had Wellie long and i'd gone on one of my mad mamoth rides through some woods and managed to actually get knocked off by a low branch whilst not concentrating - thank god Wellie just stopped and looked at me like I was mad!

Another time I was teaching myself to vault on my pony and managed to go straight over the top and land on my bum so I must have done some spectacular spinny thing in the air!!!

And more recently I fell off B at a show and landed right inthe mud - was covered in it!!

God so many.......!!!!!!

One I did a few years back. Out hacking with other half round some fields lined with trees. The track went right along side some of the trees and there were low hanging branches.

OH was in front - he stopped and lifted a low hanging branch up and out of his way, ducked and went under it. I was a little way behind. Stopped my horse, went to grab the branch, but my horsey decided that partner was too far in front and decided to go from standstill to trot verging on canter to catch up ... and the branch swiped me straight off her over her bum in a sumasault.

OH still thought coz he could hear the horse behind him that I was still on board ! In truth I was sat on my ass on the deck wetting myself laughing - whilst I watched them disappear into the distance !

Classic !

lol similar to one that happened to someone i was taking on a trek years ago, I told everyone to duck under the branches as we went into the stream but one woman just sat bolt upright and grabbed the branch with both hands and the pony walked straight out from under her
grin.gif

one of mine that had me laughing so much that i couldn't get back on was off a 13hh pony that went from flat out to dead stop, that didn't get me off it was the fact that she then put her head down to eat and i just slid out the side door

Many many years ago i took out some riding school clients on a hour long hack, everything was going great, then i asked if the ride wanted to canter, which of course they all did. i was in the front supposedly keeping everyone at a nice steady pace. Then my own pony thought he'd speed up slightly, which was ok, but at the same time he coughed, tripped, put his head down and i flew through the air. It must have looked so graceful. I picked myself out of the mud to a round of applause and a few sniggers from the rest of the ride. I did give them a nice exciting hack, and they all wanted me to take them out the following week. I think they just wanted a repeat performance.

one I can remember was years ago at riding school, I was riding a 4 year old who'd just been broken in and had had a really good lesson on him so was really pleased
grin.gif
however I was absolutely pooped so when I went to get off I got my leg caught on the back of the saddle so made a very undignified slither off and ended up sat on the floor

If you want stupid, look no further than here!! I was old enough to know better, too (I think I was about 25 at the time). I was arriving back from a hack and had to cross a lawn to get to my paddock. Spotting a plastic bag on the lawn, I decided to show off (to who??? I kept him on rented land!!) and pick the bag up with my whip. I still don't know what possessed me to do such an idiotic thing, but of course, as I lifted it up, Henry shot sideways at 100mph. Because I was still leant over to pick the bag up, I had no chance and landed with the full force on my shoulder. I couldn't even lift my arm for weeks and to drive, had to lift my hand to the steering wheel, then grip it! Took well over a year to heal and funnily enough I haven't been so stupid since!!!

The other stupid one was when I was riding out in the rain. It was dark, thankfully (all off road), but I had to cross the lane as I'd left my gloves in my car, parked outside the pub. Having a slippy saddle at the time, I walked Henry up a bridleway to a bench and got on from there. He moved just as I was cocking a leg over, I overcompensated and plopped straight off the other side. I STILL looked round to check no-one was looking, even though it was 7pm in November!
