Your horse is quirky to ride after..

How many days can your horse have off before he/she becomes the devil?

I can do 2 weeks plus with my boy, but then he is 14 and Thank God not a TB or a horse who needs to be worked every day. It is so much easier to have an easy horse who doesn't freak out if not ridden every day, especially when I am working, my boy is sharp and has his problems but above all he is SAFE. I have had had a couple of lunatic TBs which had to be ridden for a couple of hours every day and I just didn't have the time and riding them became a chore not a pleasure :eek:

I have had a Thoroughbred ex-racer since she was 6 years old. Even when racing fit, she was sensible - ish.
She is now 18 and just the same. :)
The Welsh Cob, likewise after 20 years.

There wasn't a option for not at all!

My mare is sharp and buzzy all the time but she doesn't get worse with time off. She had to do 2 weeks inside when the snow was dreadful and was the same and she just had a 7 week holiday out in the field and was the same. Shes just always silly!!!!

Indefinately. Doesn't make any difference to Bust! He's in 24/7 most the time over winter, on a lot of hard feed as he looses condition soon as it's winter, ridden 'properly' weekend days and during the week I hop on him bareback to take him for a 15 minute leg stretch round the block....he's just a very laid back lad!

I picked 2weeks+ as she does'nt get silly with time off :) She doesnt even get silly with no turnout, shes a pretty level headed 4yr but shes not super fit so it may change!!

One of mine I can only leave for a day before I have to lunge before I get back on!

The other I could leave for 2 years solid in her stable and she wouldn't be any different, except fatter!

The first wouldn't buck/rear or do anything majorly nasty, he doesn't know how (Thank god!) but he does do fast!

Well would have said never after him being totally normal after a couple of weeks...but then I got on for the first time in three months today and am pretty sure some one has swapped him for a hyped up three year old :-D am hoping he returns to normal soon..!

I could leave mine months and he'd be absolutely fine to ride. Never puts a foot wrong under saddle. There wasn't an option for indefinitely though :p

No work for more than a week and he becomes a bit of a tool to lead around though so I try to keep him in work to keep his manners intact.

Mine doesn't! Surprising as he's a TB x Luso so not exactly a ploddy native but keeping him out 24/7 really helps keep him chilled. I got on him yesterday after not touching him since mid-October and he was absolutely fine, behaved beautifully!
