She was,speaking in public though so private jokes and banter are not really appropriate.
If it made her come across as rude and sulky it's not going to endear her to the public.
 
It was like Black Friday on the Horse Health stand. We started queuing about 8.30am at Gate 5 and we were in the first 50 people who got in, but already when we entered the barn and the Horse Health stand was in front of us, there were about 25 people grappling with the 'sale rail'. However I came away with a half lined sheepskin saddle cloth for £50 reduced from £78.99 and a really nice saddle pad reduced to £20.

Other bargains included 12 hay bricks for £7.55 and some Just toggs leather boots with steel toe cap for £25. And a lovely Mark Todd exercise sheet, waterproof and fleece lined for £25 in 5'0. I do hope it will fit my horse!

I heard there was a bomb scare in the marquee, someone left something behind by the Blue Cross rescue horses.

Rubber feed buckets were a fiver each, I just paid £12 each for mine a month ago! Grrrr.
I loved the step on vibrating plates and found my hamstrings were extremely tight and sore! I also found the chair with the massage balls in the bag really hurt my shoulders, it was like someone pumelling you!

i think some are being too judgmental and if public speaking doesnt come naturally then maybe cut a bit of slack.

i'm doing a lecture demo with NMT next year, at Horse Health expo and i hope to god none of you are there.....public speaking aint my thing either and the first thing to get lost in concentration will be the beaming smile!!!!!!!!!!!!

there plenty of joking and banter between Richard Davison and Carl Hester at the dressage conventions, and no one gets so offended so really not sure why 1 comment has caused such a backlash.
 
I didn't like the stunt group. It was Rocking Horse with a new name. Same people. Same horses. Same stunts.

Of course, the stunts are very clever but it's the same old, same old. There's only so many times you can watch someone hang off a saddle and pick stuff up from the floor. They were good the first time I saw them which was about 5 or 6 years ago. And I wish Ben would stop slamming down into the saddle. YHL really needs to find a new act next year, or maybe Stampede/Rocking horse could do a tutorial on how they do the stunts just for something different.

I also saw CD. I actually learned a lot from her and pretty pleased that I got to see her.

Ben and Paul were fab. It's hard to believe that Ben has been so ill. Really nice to see him up and about and larking around.

Shopping wise, I got a new rug, some sweaters for the kids, a bucket of salt licks, 24 pairs of woolly riding gloves for £10, some jods and a headcollar.

Maybe it depends how it is done, there was plenty between Emile and daughter at Burghley last year, and always plenty between carl and pammy at badders and well actually most people I have ever seen but it has never come across in a mean way. Hopefully she has the opportunity to watch it back.
 
I was there on Saturday afternoon and heard the comments and saw the rider and trainer interaction.

Whilst it might not appeal to everyone it was clear that the 'disgusting transition' comment was done in a good natured manner and taken as such by the rider (who quite frankly did make a mess of the transition). The comments about turn out were about Turing out in groups and she made a comment about a difference of opinion between herself and Carl Hester.

The reality is that not even at the top does everyone agree. That riders who are training at grand prix are expected to do everything perfectly and that 'getting it right' in the horse world in nigh in impossible. I admired Charlotte for her frankness and down to earth training attitude. I would have given anything to be the rider that day.

Did it make for great spectating? Probably not. But it did make for good training.
 
I think anyone starting out in public speaking is going to have some blips here and there, especially if it's not something the person is very comfortable doing.

I had a lesson with Carl many many years ago and while he was lovely, he was then a young man, new to it all and he would have made plenty of people cry...not because he was a poor teacher, but because it takes time to understand and learn how to interact with an audience and how to translate banter between friends into banter that can be easily translated!

I did have a ticket, but I also had a poorly Dan at home and nobody to look after the horses, so I didn't make it. One of my liveries did though and had a good time and got some bargains :)

Honestly, and all trainer to rider friendly banter aside, she really was dull. Which was a shame. I think its ok for the people who were actually there to be able to voice opinions too, don't you?

I've no doubt that CDJ is a lovely person. Fact was, she showed not one ounce of that to a sell out crowd. She's half athlete, half celebrity these days so she might need to spruce up her public facing half.

Good luck with your expo, I'm sure you'll be fine if you at least crack one smile.
 
Not sure what everyone's problems with CD are! I watched both of her demos on Saturday (I'm not normally a dressage person!) and found them interesting and informative. The comments she made regarding turnout I felt where very fair, high value competition horses need different management then the usual horse. My competition horses are only individually turned out as I can't run the risk of anything happening. It was interesting to hear how she manages her horses, always is nice to hear how different people manage things.

I thought she explained things very well (especially to those who are not from a dressage audience) and I liked how with her pupil she made her demonstrate the correct and incorrect ways of doing certain movements. I can't believe people are complaining about the disgusting transition comment, the transition wasn't great and the comment was lighthearted and the rider knew that (they where both smiling away), myself and my trainer are like that so maybe that's why I don't see anything wrong with it. I think people are overreacting/blowing things out of proportion slightly.

If you wanted rude you should have seen the lynn russel demo, heard barely any positives given to the riders, it was all negatives (criticism is necessary when constructive as you will never improve but you also need positives too). She seemed very pushy about her clinics and nettex products to both the rider and audience. I lasted about 5 minute before I walked out.

Also one of those people who weren't a fan of the stampede stunt company, it just seemed like a poor mans version of the ukranian cossacks.

Other demos I saw and found interesting/liked where the jumping skinny xc fences one (lovely riders and horses), the biomechanics one and the Ben hobday and Paul tapner one. Sad I missed Jason Webb :(

Spent rather a lot of money! But best buys where probably a coolex exercise sheet for £20, mark todd fleece rug £25, mark todd exercise sheet £10, martingale attatchment £10, frenchie Joules wellies £15 (wanted some for ages!), brown long leather boots £75 and some nice LeMieux CC saddlecloths
 
I didnt want to start a debate guys. I was simply giving my opinion, of which i'm entitled, about how the demo came across to ME. Others may have enjoyed it but personally I did not and there was obviously interpretation into what was said during the demo.
I apprciate that many will have different opinions to me but please I dont want to argue as you wont change my mind and it will just ruin a good thread about YHL.

On another note - I purchased a great pair of tekna xc boots from hope valley saddlery on the Saturday, was thrilled with them as i like tekna due to being easily cleaned after we romp around in the mud and water jumps. I bought a pair of full sized front boots, however when i got home and had a look at them the packaging contained 1 x full size front boot and 1 x pony sized hind boot. After initial annoyance i found it really funny, you could get two mor epolar opposite boots if you tried! Thankfull HVS have agreed to exchange them :D

Ah, that would be why I thought they were really un-imaginatively the same then!
 
It was the first time we ever went and we really enjoyed ourselves! I had two over-exited kids who had been saving their pocket money for ages and bought ALL the bling! They loved the stunt riders and were in awe of the girls. We didn't get to see as many demos as we would have liked, there is so much shopping to get around but I was pleased at all the bargains because too many shows the shopping seems to be luxury only (I am looking at you, Crufts). Part of the reason we didn't get to see much was because we spent so much time with a pony called Candy in the rescue village. I am off to see her today and we are keeping our fingers crossed we pass the home visit and she comes to live with us!

Is that Candy from RSPCA Gonsal Farm, near Shrewsbury? I know that they were sending 6 down to YHL. I've just fostered again from them, it's a great place (purpose built from monies left in a legacy, with tight restrictions on what the money was spent on).

My previous foster filly was rehomed after YHL 2013. Good luck, and keep us posted!
 
I went yesterday and my sister and I had a fab time. I was lucky enough to win our two tickets and haven't been for a few years!
got to see Ben and Paul demo which was really good and we saw Charlotte at 3pm, I thought she was very good and explained clearly what she was doing and why and enjoyed watching her ride the lovely chestnut.

got a couple of nice bargains , a hyzone stable rug with a detachable neck £20 and a nice everyday bridle with reins for £20
coudl have bought loads more but trying to be sensible in run up to christmas

Yes, it is! Saw her today and she was a love. My OH is giving me the death glare but i am ignoring him! I did want to foster but if we add Candy we probably won't have the room. But my girls are in love! Hopefully, we will pass the home visit.
