Me, am traveling up on the Friday staying in coverntry for the weekend and going both days :) third year running me and my friend.

Anyone in coverntry able to recommend anywhere to go out for a bit of night life up there?

I'm just looking at the schedules to try and work out which day works best with everything I want to see. My shopping list is ready though :)

Like Dancing Diva - both days. Long shopping list and VIP tickets for the second day to watch the demos! DD and I have gone as our pre Christmas (or is that pre Olympia!) treat since the first year. Do we get loyalty points?!

I'm going on the Saturday! :) used to go with my dad every year! Last year we restarted the tradition! My mum had recently started riding so is coming too. She is very good at shopping and worth the comp champagne I think she maybe on a buying mission. Saving up my money now so I can buy the many things my horse "needs" as he only has 1 of everything and most definitely needs spare everything too! :)

I would have gone but having promised my friend to join her at the BD convention I discovered that they are both on the same weekend - very poor planning.

Will be the first one I have missed in 14 years ....

I've never been as I have always baulked at paying an entrance fee just to shop!

I can see there are apparently 300 tradestands, can anyone advise if these are largely horsey? HOYS is great for some things but I really don't want champagne with gold flakes in or hair straighteners!

The trade stands are largely horsey. Lots of clothing for horse and rider! Some horse holiday firms and one or two people with new products they are trying to introduce to the market. The cost of the admission includes all the demos so you need to watch some of them to make it worth while.

I don't know if I would go to HOYs and YHL in the same year if you are there just for the shopping and not for all the other things as a lot of the tradestands are going to be the same.
More at YHL though, and more technical things and trade stands not just for selling things, but for information.

Having just been to hoys for the first time in years, the shopping at yhl is soooo much better. We have standard plus tickets to get the reserved seats. I wouldn't want to waste time queuing for the demos. They're very good demos though. Looking forward to seeing Carl!!!

WelshD - it is absolutely mainly horsey. Not like Olympia etc. If there are non horsey stands there I have to say I didn't notice. No hair straighteners or gold flaked champagne that I've ever noticed! It is more than shopping too - the demos are really good. Although the queues if you don't have a pre booked seat are now a bit off putting. Loads of professionals to talk to - feed companies, saddlers etc. 2 Q&A zones with a wide range of topics on a sort of open mic basis.

Think we'll go on the Saturday. Each year I threaten not to return after getting held up for hours trying to leave one year; or the stalls being too crowded; or queues into the demos so long it's not always worth trying to get in... but somehow always find myself booking the tickets!

Will have to work out my shopping list...

My friend and I were hoping to go on the Saturday this year for a change as I thought the shopping may be better (?) as I struggled to find what I needed (wanted) last year. However, I've just booked tickets to see Counting Crows for my boyfriend's birthday on the Friday night and we're stopping over for the night so we'll probably end up going on the Sunday again!

Do they still have the code for 'buy one ticket, get one free' like they used to? Haven't been for a few years but always got a good deal a few years ago.

I'm there on the Saturday, with not much of a shopping list (I have just bought EVA matting & he has EDT & physiotherapist this month, so even if pony wanted for much else - it's tough :D )

All that is on my list is rope reins - but to be honest, may end up buying online/eBay anyway before YHL. Oh, and welly/country boot warmers .
