Ok then, favourite horse you've ever owned/ridden and why? For me it is definitely L as I feel we've clicked, and I'm pleased that I can say we've done all the work together... He's quirky and has a great sense of humour and you never get bored of riding him, as no two days are the same! He's given me so much confidence after my last horse, who either would win or would get eliminated, and this time last year I was considering giving up horses altogether. I'm starting to believe in myself again and no longer feel physically sick when i'm competing. Truley believe he is the best thing we've ever bought and he is definitely the best horse I have ever sat on!
 
I wouldnt have said this a week ago, but I am beginning to think J is the best thing I have owned.

He is finally coming together and has tested me beyond what I thought I could cope with, and shown me I am more determined than I ever realised!!!
 
Love my current horse to bits, but not sure he is my horse of a lifetime, may turn out to be, who knows?!

I have only had two horses, Honey would have been a horse of a lifetime if she hadnt of gone lame when she was 6 as she has since come sound and back competing but only does the odd competition when i am home from uni. If she hadnt of gone lame I believe she would have done well both SJ and eventing as she finds jumping so easy. She taught me and my mum alot, we got her as a rising 4 year old when i was 13. After uni I want another one just like her!
 
I love Ellie pony inside out but I know she isn't my horse of a lifetime. We have a great bond and she tries her heart out for me- most of the time but I can't help but feel I should be doing bigger better things... that sounds sooo stuck up and vain but hey ho I dont mean it like that.... bless her I love her more thank anything

Hen is my boy, I love him to bits, and I doubt I'd be riding now if he hadn't come along. I had completely lost both my confidence and interest in horses before him.
He hasn't got a nasty or dishonest bone in his body, he always tries 100% and he has kept me going through some pretty horrendous times. I still grin like an idiot when I see him!

iv had to
my old horse bobby he was absoltley owserm verry cleaver always heiped you out and never said no he had a hart of a lion
my current one is the partys over bought because she looked like him nortey i know you shouldnt do that but i couldnt help it she also has the same princeables of bobby but with alot bigger engine but had to do alot of schooling as had none and verry fast to the fences but know we are getting there she qualified for 115 members cup at first go and everyone told me not to by her last year as i woulddnt be able to re school her but went with my hart and brought her any way only this time im not going to make the mastake of letting her go like i did bobby i regrete selling him every day and if i ever see him for sale i would deffently by him back
 
The_Henmeister, he sounds exactly how Lenny is for me! They're worth their weight in gold. I had a 148 too, an irish olympic trainer said to me, "That pony would break his legs to jump for you. It wouls just break his heart to have to stop." And he was right as well! He was at hickstead the other day at 19

He was pretty special, but I think Lenny just scrapes the win!
 

Henmiester, far from being soppy I think that's the relationship most riders aspire to with their horses.

I'm at the stage where you were before you got your boy & it's nothing to do with my mare but more my confidence levels after illness etc etc & I can definitely say that when I do eventually get another horse, what you've said about your relationship with your boy is the one I'd love to build with them. To trust each other 100% & to be able to enjoy each other to the maximum. Whether that be happy hacking or ambitions for Badminton & Hickstead.

On the ground, my mare is my horse of a lifetime. She's taught me how to handle something with a bit more fizz but equally, is the kindest animal I've come across. Riding her is a bit different as she is sharp & a bit much for me at times but there is no way I'd ever part with her. I've had he from a 2 year old & she is now rising 13. I re-broke her & schooled her on myself & although both young we learned from each other so she is very special to me

I was lucky enough to be offered him on loan as an 8yr old who'd done a bit of hunting, riding club and tried one season BE with Tanya Liddle.
I'd done unaffiliated dressage to Elementary but was looking for something to do BD with but couldn't afford to buy.
He was amazing, a gentle giant, (17h to my 5'1"), almost unbeaten Prelim and Novice, finished his first year winning the Prelim and Rest Novice Nat BD Champ, the RC Nat Champ, RC Novice Music Champ and the BD Novice FSM Champ!
He continued on, was unbeaten at the summer regionals at all levels from Prelim through to Medium, was 2nd Elem Rest Nationals (to Gemma Green), was placed in the Medium Rest Nats twice.........
Before he retired we'd made it to PSG but he wasn't really built for 'sitting' and found the more collected work difficult but it didn't stop him trying.

However, he is my horse of a lifetime, not because of his success but because of what he taught me over our 8 years together.
At that time I'd never sat on a schoolmaster, never ridden a flying change, but together we bumbled along and eventually got there with the help of some very patient trainers along the way.

Torrent, I think of you daily and hope you're enjoying your hacks in retirement.

My current horse probably would have been... if I had bought him four or five years ago, and a bit younger. Could have done quite well at dressage, but is to old and stuck in his ways now to do a lot more! but he is a nice horse
 
Ben my welsh cob was my horse of a lifetime, he died in March from colic aged 26. I owned him for 20 years, and never once fell off him, he looked after me so well. We did RC/hunting/draghunting/eventing and he loved them all. Unfortunately it has spoiled me, as I can't feel the same confidence in any other horse.

Fiddler will always be my one in a million horse but he wasnt that talented he was just the most amazing friend, taught be tons and had enough "look at me" about him and was straight forward enough SJ and XC to give me many wins and fantastic days to remember, so for me he'll always be so special.

But Hattie is most probably going to be my horse of a lifetime, She got lovely paces, a very trainable temperament and scope to burn

She def got scope for intermediate eventing, its just whether im the one brave enough to do it with her!
 
This has to be my mare Mony, she is only 14hh and took me through PC and RC stuff about twenty years ago, then my sister took the ride and my cousin and my friend....These dyas I just hack but my 11 year old daughter now has started showing her as a veteran and did really well with her this weekend at their first show together..talk about a lifetime!!

I have never found another horse or pony who made me feel so proud or who fulfilled my competitive dreams, now I can watch her help my daughter on the way to her dreams.

I think my horse of a lifetime made her true worth known when I was able to see my little girl riding her as a 5 year old child....I will quit rambling now

Mine would probably be Romany, I brought him back into work myself when I was only 10 with no help from anyone apart from library books and internet research. Its a long story how I came to own him and we really did break the mould of it being 'stupid' to have a horse to 'learn together'.

He was only a driving pony and I broke him to ride, and 4 years on we were jumping 1.20 - 1.50m SJ courses against the big boys and winning. I only sold him as I was ready for another challenge, I lost out on a good horse there and would do anything to have him back, but fortunately I know where he is and he has a home for life with a woman who adores him.
