Well now I know the outcome for me I thought I would share it with the HHOs!!

Seeing as Tango currently has the summer off for his hoof to grow out, having had a serious and very unfortunate injury last year which and knowing he may never be 100% sound, I thought I would have a real crack at the Your Horse Win a Horse Competition.

I put a lot of effort into my entry and sent if off to get there just in time for the closing date. The closing day was Friday and Saturday afternoon I got a call from Your Horse to say that I had been selected for the shortlist day at Talland. I could not believe it and did not know what to do. I told my closest friends but pretty much kept it to myself.

So 27th March, I headed up to Talland for the day, thankfully it was a nice sunny day! First of all we had riding, I rode an ex 4* star eventer that had been around Badminton (ridden by Ruth Friend), it took a while to get used to the stride of a TB (i'm used to a big WB) but we soon got going and even did a flying change (planned!!!) and some lovely leg yielding. We then changed on to another horse and he was an ex-dressage horse and very cheeky, he popped lots of flying changes in some planned, some not!!!

After an hour of flat work we were straight on to a sj lesson, it was pretty basic gridwork, i rode an ex-teamchaser who was very excited. But he was very good.

After our riding lessons we then went into a classroom for a group chat about horse care, management etc.

Then it was lunch and finally in the afternoon we did some practical stable management tasks.

There were 10 finalists (one didn't turn up

) so from the 9 they had to get down to a final 3.

These final 3 would then have homechecks etc before a final decision would be made.

After a week of waiting to hear something I finally got a letter on Friday to say that I had not through. Of course this was upsetting but I guess i was not the person they were looking for.

So onwards, I'm gearing up for some horse shopping! I'm looking for a 4-8 year old, 16.2 to 17hh warmblood type but not too heavy. So if anyone knows of anything that fits the bill PM me. Thanks.

In the meantime I look forward to reading the write up in Your Horse next month and until then i wonder who got through? I know of one person and fingers crossed for her! I think they have shortlisted to 4 people for home checking.

So you never know - any of you who thought about entering this year but didn't give it a shot next year!

Ahh bad luck on not getting through. Just wondering what Talland is like?? Want to do my stage 3 soon but since having my little boy I have lost confidence on horses I dont know.
My friend mentioned going to Talland for a lesson but im a bit apprehensive (sp) just in case they put me on soon right old looony tune lol. I know im more then cappable but I think about things a lot more then I used to do lol x.

What you got Lil Ponios? Just looked at your profile thing - don't think i could go down to 13.3!!!!

Thanks Welsh Rarebit - no i was not too upset, no tears shed! It obviously was not meant to be!

Berry - Talland has just moved to a new place but all the horses looked good and they have loads of school masters there that would be great for a brush up/confidence boost. Be worth giving them a ring for a chat and what you want. I don't think they would put you on anything silly. My friend goes there quite often for lessons and she enjoys it.

You did brilliant to get to the final 10!! just think of how many thousands entered! Sorry you didnt get to the final 3 but well done for getting that far. Good luck in your search

Me too! I didn't get through to final 3 either. Fingers crossed I might start looking in a month or so when my car is fixed. Though may need a new car or do you think I could ride to work?
