Diego - named by World horse welfare after the sabre tooth tiger in ice age. He's a tiger with a heart which actually sums up D pretty well ;-)

Mine all came with a name and all have the name in their registered names. Goldilocks - shes a gawjus palomino so thats probably why. Thriller - He is a menece and loves exploring and having fun so it suits him down to the ground. Charm - her dam was called charming.

Ex racer by stallion 'Beat All' - called Beetle, play on words, hmm, subtle 😏 he's not the only one by that stallion called beetle that Ive come across and his younger brother at same yard was known as Spidey. I do love my big bug man tho!

Mine came from Romania (believed to have been born on journey over), so passport name is Romy.
She goes by a different name though.

Jazz's proper name is Lisarearke Taz Junior - his sire's stable name is Taz. When he was a baby he got called TJ, but he was Jazz by the time I bought him!

The youngster is Jasper, as a foal he was Casper so didn't want to change it too much. The TB is Mayo, short for Mayoman which was his racing name. Couldn't think of an alternative!

Kasper came to me with the name Mustang, which i hated and it just didnt suit his sensitive but willing nature. I have loved the name Casper since watching 'Casper the friendly ghost' films as a kid. However i like being quirky and i have a bit of a trend of naming my pets with a 'K' in the name so i changed the spelling to Kasper. Can't imagine it spelled any differently now.

Mine came with the name poppet, because she is one.

I changed it slightly to pops which is just a bit less old lady, but generally I call her names with monkey in them (monkey puzzle, monkey magic, muddy monkey etc). Cos she's cheeky and bloomin clever.

Glenisla Phoenix...Diafol (Devil) for normal name as hes ginger and cheeky and a 2 yr old shouting Phoenix sounds like the male appendage so we changed it after he got into the house and chased my mum round the kitchen.

Flicka was named by one of the "older" ladies that used to keep her horse where we now keep ours. Foal hadn't yet been given a name but she was going mad with the crab flies, flicking her little tail. So she became Flicka. I like it although I usually try to have names ending in 'y'or 'ie'.

Kali - apparently he's named after a character (a cheeky, wily little boy) in a famous Polish children's book (he's Polish). He came with it - and it suits him. Before I found out where it came from, though, I was seriously confused - Kali is also the name of a Hindu goddess sometimes known as the Dark Mother - erm, he's a gelding and he's grey ;).

P

Mine came to me as Silver because he is ...erm...grey, but his passport name is Bud's Choice, so I now call him Buddy, because he is a real friend. I would love to know who the original Bud is though.

When I was 12 I worked in a riding school to earn rides. The owner had a Morgan, I remember being in totally awe of her, and saying to myself, one day I will have a horse as beautiful as her. She was called Aria.
My mare Asha had a filly 3 years ago, and it just suits her. Her passport name is Royal Song. Dad is Royaldik, and song, well that's the best link to Aria I could come up with.

Being told by the dealer that my conne had papers but they were still in Ireland with his Dad.......I bought him on the promise of their appearance, they were in Ireland but they were his foal papers, not in the current owners name, said he was dun but he was white grey at three, and no name. He had two xxxxx Fionn's in his breeding and an affix without a name attached so after a bit of research I came up with xxxxx Fiontar which means 'risk or venture' which it certainly was, waiting for the DNA test to come back to prove it really was him!

Domesday (UAE) is my tbs registered name, he was bred/named at the Darley Stud in Dubai.

I bought him from the field from the people who'd bought him out of racing earlier that year and they'd named him Dubi because he was so chilled out it was as if he'd been smoking a dubi...

I couldn't think of anything to change it to so he's been Doobie since I brought him him Aug 2010

for the first time ever, we made a horses name longer! new mare is called Ammanvalley Glam Roc and stable name is Glam. ..so call her Glamis as bless her as a few spot Appaloosa she is not glamorous in the least! think pink..... She is in foal to Amazing Technicolour so already trying out names : )

The 2 Arabs that are registered came with their names "Mydass" and "Crystal Gleame" both have names similar to the sire Dassy is by "Mudassah" and Crystal is by "Gleam of Flame".

Apparently my little Arab mare was named "Dainty Dancer" because she was tiny and was always dancing around.

My Foresters were HoneyB out of Millersford Mandy and was registered as Millersford Honey11 My gelding was called Bay and he came with that name and I registered him for Competition as "GlenOcean Wayward Lad. GlenOcean after my brothers company who sponsored me and Wayward Lad because when I bought him he really was a wayward lad.

Chloe is Chloe in her passport . For shows I called her Chloe but wanted to use something different for a big showing show we went to last year so asked her old owners what they used which was Leverton Lady as she was bred in Leverton. I think its lovely so now I use it to.

Ambers passport name and the one registered with the ISH Society is Kilcloghan Buffet. The prefix of who she was bred by in Ireland and Buffet is part of her sires name, TB stallion French Buffet

My boy came to me as Albert, but was known as Albi. I liked the Albi part but not the Albert so in his first few days I was toying with whether to bother thinking of a "show name". I live in the West Midlands and one morning the local radio news was on and they were talking about the footie team "Albion" (as in "West Bromwich") and I actually shouted out loud "That's it!!!" So whilst he is still known as Albi, his passport says Albion Firecracker.... I added the last bit because he was small and explosive at the time!

I did also once give another one of mine the show name Impulsive Purchase.... because he had been! :D

I have a tom who already had his name and a honey. My 2 year old is called sansa because I like game of thrones and it suits her. My friends foal is called arya so we are going for the full cast 😅

Both my ex racers have their formal names and stable names.

Bella- name given to her by dealer we bought her from, we bought her from Wales but she looks to have been born in Northamptonshire. Her formal name is Barney's Dancer. I don't know why, maybe she belonged to someone called Barney or maybethe Dancer part was to denote the Northern Dancer lines in her pedigree, but probably not, it ain't exactly a rare thing in a modern tb :)

Basil- again, name he came with. His formal name name is Bijou Rock. I think it's pretty straightforward combination of sire Bijou D'Inde and dam, Heavy Rock. I don't know where he was born, but he seems to have gone through Doncaster sales as a yearling.

Maggie- Name she came with. Her origins are a mystery as she was born before passporting was the norm, she may have had one but it was lost or not forwarded on with her at one point. Legend has it that she is a (piebald) ISH and she competed in BSJA/BS/BE stuff and belonged to a well known show jumper at one point. The name on her passport is Mrs Magpie but I can't find any record of her career. Maybe she was known then by a different name.

He's called Ned and I got him from my YO, but he's originally from Northumberland.

Just realised you meant where the NAME came from, haha!

No idea, his passport says Ned MC and Ned MT...MT makes sense as those are his breeders initials, but I prefer MC as I want no connection with her!

Oldest mare is Copper Lady ,appropriate because she always gleams. Her foals have been Lady Pénélope aka Penny, Parker to link with his sister via Thunderbirds, and finally Sovereign Lady, simply ka Lady. No intention to breed again.
