I'm feeling inspired by this thread and may give it a go. Obviously I know her owner (I loan her) but previous to that I believe she was retired from racing after an injury and used as the trainer/ owners personal riding horse until he sold her! Would be interesting to find out about how she was then because she is a right madam now, lol
i traced my horses old owner from the vaccination cert and found out that she bred her and she was sold to a girl for showjumping , she had her for 5 years but she had a bad accident showjumping and both the girl and the horse lost their nerve..she was sold to someone who didnt want to jump but she only had her for 6 mths and i then bought her. the breeder was really happy i had contacted her and gave me some foal and yearling pics and i gave her up to date pics so a good outcome for both of us..
I have a very pretty looking chestnut gelding which i stupidly bought from an irish dealer in the north east. He has settled to become a lovely hack and I do love his personality to bits..however with the dodgy [passport he came with I know nothing of his past..tried on here a couple of times but no real interest!
i did
i wrote to the person who had had him the longest in his passport as he had had loads of homes/changes of owners and i wanted to know more about him as i bought him from the field and didn't know anything apart from his age
after that ^ she came to see him and it was lovely , i think he did recognise her and you could see how much she cared for him once and desperatly wanted to buy him back , i told her to think seriously about it as i really liked him myself and wanted to find him a 5* home so not to buy him back just to secure his future as i promised i'd make sure he was always safe
the truth was , she was far too big for him in my opinion and he is a little long in the back so it wouldn't have been the right thing to do to have him back as the sad fact was he'd be no good to her really
she decided she couldn't afford him back but ill always welcome her to come and see him any time she likes and i keep in touch with her
iv'e still actually got him he's very much loved and i have found him a good home with a friend who will hopefully keep him forever but if she doesn't i will buy him back
I did. I wrote to the address that was on the passport, got the letter back saying unknown. I tried Facebook. I knew the area, so was hoping the person would have a Horsey disply picture. 8th person down was correct area with a Horsey photo. I emailed. And it turned out it was her first registered owner. I found out so much info. Some of it quite sad actually and I did shed some tears for Ruby!
I found out she was wild until 2 1/2
She was professionaly backed
She put someone in hospital!
I was her 5th owner in just over a year
I also got sent some photos of her too, which was nice. She was in Devon at this point, then went to Cornwall and then on to Essex. She is only 7YO!
I tried to get in contact with Ned's old owners, but they didn't reply.
I would have loved to talk to them from the two pictures on his passport, he was a normal, well loved, healthy horse. I want to know where it all went wrong and he ended up how he was and still is sometimes.
I hope they got my letter, even if they don't ever reply. I want them to know the horse they brought into this world is safe and in a forever home and loved more than life itself!
With Reg, he's had the same owner since he was 2 and she still owns him so he's pretty much known all the way through. Bee was a homebred, who Al has vaguely known since she was born (we used to hack past the field where she was kept as she grew up before she went to training and Al would always say how much she wished she could event her... Can't believe 4 years later she is eventing her!) and still has the same owner.
