just wondering what you do with your horse and what they wear?
ebs does showjumping and wearss a hdr jumping saddle grackle with a dutch gag on the snaffle ring with running martingale and brushing boots :)

your horses?

My horses wear the tack that they go best in, that is legal, comfortable and appropriate for whatever discipline they are working in, be it dressage, XC, or just hacking.
Because I want my horses to be comfortable, work well, not get eliminated from that discipline during competitions and also be safe.

Simple :D

All mine have pretty much the same!!

French link snaffle (with full cheeks for the babies) and cavesson noseband, my mare has a dressage saddle, but the others have gps. Babies also have hunting breastplates on, for an extra hanging on strap!! They all wear brushing boots when working, and over reach boots if they are shod. I will bandage my mare when schooling her, as we have been working on lateral work, and prefer the flexibility of bandages to protect her where she needs it the most.

My tack room is quite boring - as everything is the same!! :D Although I do have lots of pretty boots and bandages!

Lucky wears a bridle with no noseband and either a GP saddle or a western depending on whether i'm hacking or schooling.

Angel wears a GP saddle, running martingale this is because she used to be a rearer and although she's perfect 99% of the time there is the odd 1% when she's silly. She has a grackle because she has a bad habit of pulling her tongue right back, although she is a lot better with that now so thats mainly for jumping and fast work.

Both wear tendon and brushing boots... more for protection when out hacking as all is off road and sometimes through thistles...

Roxy just a straight bar happy mouth as she's only 2 and am bitting her... she loves it. :)

Forgot to say all have straight bar happy mouths as very responsive to voice, so dont need strong bits...

Only own one saddle, a Henri de Rivell jumping saddle, which I do everything in. Did have a DR saddle but horse hated it and I was constantly having it refitted in an effort to get him to like it. Sold it and bought the jumping saddle which he is so much happier in.

99% of the time he goes in a french link (just changed to a loose ring sweet iron FL from an eggbut plain S/S one and goes much nicer in it). Flat schooling no noseband at all, same for hacking. Jumping in a grackle but only because we had out tack stolen and I haven't got around to buying a new drop noseband for jumping. Sometimes use a martingale - never for flatwork or hacking, rarely for jumping at home, most of the time for jumping away from home and always for XC and/or hunting (though usually a combination breastplate and martingale for XC and hunting). Use a waterford snaffle or a jointed pelham with 2 reins for hunting.

I think you have to get something that suits both you and your horses.:)

I have mines without martingales but they wear breastplates if they need them jumping etc.

I dont see the point in over tacking for no reason but I hate it when people look at pictures of people using certain items of tack and they slate them for it. the horses may need them.

Also all the backslapping for having no tack on your horse and digging at people that use more than others I think is horrid. Great if you dont need anytthing other than a headpiece and bit with reins and a saddle, i would love it if that was the case:) but for those that do need flashes/martingales etc i dont think they should feel bad for using them.

My grade B sjer wears a jumping saddle, flash noseband and either a 3 ring gag on 2nd ring or a pelham (minus flash) for jumping and a running martingale at shows. at home he wears a snaffle all the time. My almost 4 year old future sjer wears a tekna jumping saddle, cavesson noseband and loose ring snaffle. Both wear tendon boots for jumping (not that the baby has started jumping yet) and dressage wraps for everything else

ETA forgot to say why- grade B- Because it's what i've found he goes best in and what i can ride him in. Baby- I want him to start simple without excess tack just for the sake of it being there

Hacking, jumping, dressage, done XC, hunted every pony or horse I've had in a snaffle (loose ring/FL/eggbut), normal noseband, running martingales if needed, never used anything else....am still here and always remained in once peice so I must be doing something right :D

Trialed a NS universal once, trialed a myler snaffle once.

Used a double bridle in the past for showing.

Ridden other peoples horses in various other bits/nosebands etc.

Saddle, bridle.

No nosebands, throatlashes, martingales, boots or anything else. Can't be bothered with them on a day to day basis, they aren't required.

French link eggbutt (only just changed to this) padded black briddle, don't remember the make, GP synthetic saddle, padded girth. Running martingale if we go out on sponsored rides, as hes only 5 and has only ever been out once!! No boots or shoes at that :)

Jeffries bridal with pelham and double reins :) - Need brakes!
Straightbar rubber snaffle for dressage :)
Bates next generation elevation ds jumping saddle (Because my legs are to long for anything other! ha).
And either a 3point or 5point breastplate depends on what i'm doing :) x

Errr...a saddle (sometimes!) and a bridle.....nothing else as the horses or me don't need it and what can be more boring than spending half an hour tacking up and untacking!!!

Loose ring snaffle and bridle. Thorowgood GP saddle cos it's adjustable and he's only just finished growing. I really dislike gadgets. At the max, I might sling an old stirrup leather round his neck for exciting stuff as he has no mane to grab!

I occasionally use a bungee to remind him to flex and stretch down when lunging.

Ideal Jessica Dressage saddle because I don't jump and my mare has an old shoulder injury so prefers something straighter cut.
She just has a little happymouth loosering snaffle in with a roller because she hates jointed bits, is soft in the mouth so tends to back of a metal bit, and leans on eggbutts or anything fixed.
She just has a loose cavesson noseband on.

Tink wears a flash bridle (without the flash) and a single jointed eggbutt snaffle for hacking and schooling.
At comps she has the flash on and a running martingale, and she has a gp saddle.

Meeka wears either a flash noseband with a happy mouth loose ring snafle or a drop with a happy mouth eggbut snaffle usually however has just progressed to an elevator double with sprenger weymouth and bridoon. He wears a prestige optimax dressage saddle. I also have a Bates Caprilli jump saddle for the rare occasions he jumps! He then wears a happy mouth pelham and running martingale.
Boots wise- white polo bandages and sheep skin topped over reach boots for flat. Tendon and fetlock boots ( and over reach ) for jumping.

Oh, he also has a blingy browband and sheepskin dressage girth- very dressage diva!

B wears a flash noseband with a neule shule loose ring and an Optimax. He wears stretch and flex boots ( I jump in the same as he only jumps very small fences)

Max wears a happy mouth snaffle and flash for flat work with white boots and a prestige Douge dressage saddle. For jumping he wears a grackle with happy mouth 3 ring gag, running martingale, 5 point breastplate, tendon and fetlock boots or NEW Equine XC boots and over reach boots.

We event and do most things else as well.

For dressage - French link Fulmer and flash noseband, dressage saddle. Dressage saddle because it is easier to do dressage in it!

Showjumping - French Link Fulmer and cavesson noseband. Jumping saddle cos its hard to jump in a dressage saddle!

Eventing - french link Fulmer and cavesson noseband. Hunting breastplate. Jumping saddle.

We are quite simple in our tack, as thats all he needs :)

Elsa is a bit of an all rounder.

I hack, show jumo and do endurance in a single link fulmer snaffle with a drop noseband and a martingale.
I find the noseband gives me a bit of extra control when she gets a bit onward bound and find the bit helps with our steering, especially when jumping.

For flat work and dressage I have her in a plain snaffle with a caveson noseband.

I ride most of the time in a WOW dressage saddle which I adore and when I get some jump flaps will continue to use this for jumping too, however at the moment I borrow a GP for jumping.

taz has a normal cavesson bridle with a myler comfort snaffle with the wide barrel, he gets a flash on for commonriding, and cross country as he is known to put his tongue over the bit when he gets excited, he always has a running martingale on mainly because he has been known to rear when he gets excited, so it stops him from knocking me out too much, he has a breast plate on aswell, just for something extra for me to hold onto if he's being an idiot, and i have a ideal event saddle, he doesnt wear boots at the moment as i dont think he needs them

7" loose ring double jointed snaffle for everything, he's much happier in it than everything else we've tried. No martingales or anything, as again, he's happier when he is unrestricted

Another alrounder..

Dependant on what we are doing his basic tack is: Saddle, bridle w/flash, Myler comfort bit.

If we are out/competing etc (usually jumping of some description)

3 point breastplate with martingale attachment + boots.

The ginger pony hacks, jumps does dressage and showing too.
Wears a barnsby comfort bridle with cavesson noseband, has a barnsby grip pad under her saddle to prevent it slipping when she gets over excited and a KK WH Ultra soft bit (Basically a loose ring snaffle with a rubber lozenge). She also has a Fylde bridle for showing.

My horse (currently broken) hacks, shows, does dressage and a tiny amount of jumping.
Has an Albion KB bridle with cavesson noseband, a NS trans angled full cheek bit (full cheek snaffle with lozenge). He also has a Fylde bridle for showing. He wears and Ideal saddle and breastplate so I have something to hang onto :D

Faye the Fell has a Barnsby WH saddle, Fylde bridle with cavesson noseband and a JP eggbutt snaffle.

This is what seems to suit them so it's what I use :) as I don't use or need anything different on any of mine as they are well schooled and generally obedient with no physical or major behavioural issues.

Prince - Cavesson Bridle, two ring gag, GP saddle no boots. (WelshxArab - 18yrs) he does a bit of everything.

Lady - Flash Bridle, full cheek snaffle, GP saddle, tendon boots, brushing boots and pastern wraps. (TB ex race horse - 3yrs) will do a bit of everything, little accident prone and being TB i take extra care with the legs as the swell like ballons at a extra heavy fly landing on them!!!

Try to keep tack as simple as possible and only what they need. Prince when i got him had breastplate with martingale attachment, dutch gag three rings on the bottom ring, flash and full set of boots. First came off were the boots he has a wide gate and had the boots three years not as much as a scuff on them, never needed them in six years i've had him, then i took him down to a plain bridle and then bitted to what i needed, normally in a snaffle, currently two ring gag as extra fit and mum riding him.

Tom, myler 04 snaffle, & flash noseband as he doesn't have much room for his tongue, and he crosses his jaw (habitual not due to discomfort now). He has a stubben siegfried jumping saddle.

Ron, wow xc saddle with shallow seat as it's the only thing that doesn't really move on him. he's got huge shoulders and a little waist, so things slide back easily!. He wears a breast girth for hunting or a 5 point breastplate for eventing to help hold the saddle forwards when jumping. He has a myler 04 snaffle bridle and cavesson for 90% of stuff (again not much room in his mouth for his tongue!) but has a double bridle for hunting and SJ as he just ignores me when he gets carried away with himself! doesn't happen XC tho!.

Depends what mood i'm in and what mood my mare is in!

She goes in a hackamore or a snaffle of some kind!

Wintec saddle with changable gullet as shes a bad doer and changes shape when in work.

Flash nose band for hacking and jumping (not tight for hacking, just got it there incase it's needed to be tightened when shes being naughty and trying to run haha)

All round brushing boots for hacking and jumping, or exercise bandages. Overreach boots for jumping and hacking (Even though shes barefoot she gets excited and does this extended trot and catches herself. )

Or sometimes just a headcollar and leadrope :)

Lots of boots, he over reaches and brushes like mad espeically if we are doing lots of laterall work, KK snaffle with a lozenge in, flash noseband as he is a swine about opening his mouth, i dont have it too tight but just enough that he gets a squeeze when he opens it too much, and sometimes i will swap to a drop from time to time, albion SLK Dressage saddle, when we jump he wears just the same but with a Saddle Co jump saddle and a hunting breastpate without the martingale attachement on it
