Your Horses Tack and Why?

Pads - freench link loose ring, flash noseband, breastplate with martingale and ideal grandee saddle for all activities - hacking, bsja, eventing. martingale off for dressage and schooling.

Ali - eggbutt snaffle, flash noseband, martingale and thorowgood synthetic saddle for hackng and PC activities.

Bits vary, my 'starter bit' is a loose ring french link sweet iron snaffle, and we adjust from there, depending on age of horse, stage of training, mouth conformation, discipline and temperament. One of them has a flexible rubber snaffle as she has a very weirdly shaped mouth and whatever is in there will come into contact with the roof of her mouth, so softer = better.

Genie does showing and riding club activities, along with hacking.

She wears an Ideal VSD, which is brilliant as it has enough knee roll should I wish to jump (we do 2'9 tops at the moment), but is straight cut enough to show off her shoulder in the show ring.

Bridle wise she is generally in a flash noseband and a pessoa gag (2 ring). She's very 'enthusiastic' and gets rather strong. She's perfectly happy in it and works really well.

When doing dressage she's in a baucher snaffle and flash noseband.

XC she's in a fulmer snaffle (she's backwards! More chilled out XC!), flash noseband, and breasplate with martingale attachment.

SJ is the same as XC but with the gag not the snaffle.

Showing she has a jointed pelham with double reins and a hunter cavesson noseband.

It works for us! :D

French-link loose ring snaffle at all times. No flash, no martingale, dressage saddle most of the time as we compete in dressage. Only time I might have the breast plate part of a martingale is when we go to a new venue just incase I need a handle!!

Right now Phil is in a loose ring lozenge snaffle and a bridle with no noseband :p

His saddle got tight so I sold it and can't afford a new one yet :p and I took his noseband off because he had a few rubs from his muzzle and just cba to put it back on yet haha!

My boy has a GP saddle with thinnest numnah. A flat leather bridle with a brow band with brass on it and a cavesson noseband. Bit is a snaffle. He also wears a running martingale for hacking as if he 'loses it' his head becomes the height of a giraffe and has smacked me in the face before now.

No boots or bandages, even for schooling.

He does however have hi vis legbands for hacking (not tack I know).

Jane

cloud - before she was retired she had a gp saddle, a flash, and a 2 ring frenchlink gag for pc, and loose ring french link otherwise
matrix- beofre he was retired (!) he had a gp saddle, and just a cavvesson with an eggbut snaffle.
misty- for hacking, schooling, general, she has a flash with a loosering french link
for really excting things, like sponsered ride, hunting, she has a 2 ring happy mouth gag and flash
for showing, she has a double bridle.
most of the time she is in a dressage saddle, very rarely a gp, and for C&T showing, she has a show saddle but that is never usually used!

my m&m show pony who also does dressage and a bit of jumping wears a showing saddle and a double bridle or pelham so i can school her to go well no matter what the enviroment (hence she goes fab where ever i take her)

and my ISH who i show, jump, dressage (working towards eventing) wears an albion GP with a double bridle or pelham with grackle nose band for jumping

i know it sounds harsh but would rather have a slightly stronger bit with soft hands than the other way round as they can both have a bit of ooomph and respect it if its there

Hanging cheek french link snaffle +/- flash for schooling/ dressage (hate the flash but sometimes need it, and he seems to prefer hanging cheek to loose ring, so why change?)

Double bridle for showing and WH classes.

Pelham with roundings for hunting and XC/showjumping (he doesn't go well on the flat in a pelham for some reason, 1 rein or 2! Odd horse likes a double!)

Hunting breastplate for jumping, VSD saddle for everything.

Double bridle for showing and WH classes. Pelham with roundings for hunting and XC/showjumping (he doesn't go well on the flat in a pelham for some reason said:
nothing wrong with a double i love them think they look fab and my horse and pony go well in them they feel as light as a feather foward yet responcive nothing to complain about on my part

My boy goes in a DR saddle, NS starter bit, Flash noseband and bandages and overreach boots for schooling/hacking. when jumping a SJ saddle, NS waterford (does get rather excited when jumping!), flash noseband, running martingale and tendon and fetlock and overreach boots.

Why? when jumping he grabs hold of the bit so the waterford helps with this, however when schooling he is happy to go in a snaffle. flash helps with him crossing his jaw. bandages and boots are obvious for protection!

Captain is in a GP or Dressage saddle, depending on what he is doing. Cavesson (sp) noseband and hanging cheek french link snaffle. That's it.

Fany is in a mullen mouth pelham with a flash nose band( she can get her tongue over the bit, given half a chance) and occassionally a running martingale, this is because she is extremely strong and will pull hard when asked to do something she doesn't want to. I am hoping eventually to have her in a french link snaffle and flat nose band.
