Hi everyone, after the interesting posts and variations of opinions on my previous poll of your favourite colour for your beasties rug.
I thought why not see everyones ideal rug would be, or any improvements you could make if you were able to!!

My ideal rugs obviously fit well, and provide the expected warmth and usual things like surcingles and shoulder gussets etc.

Id like a rug that didnt rub, but no matter what money i spend i doubt ill find that one!!

I like colourful rugs as well, although i draw the line at bright pink rugs!! I just like a bit of excitement rather than a plain black one, but thats just me!!

:)

Ooooh! I have a bit of a rug fetish and am always on the look out for the pefect rug :o

I have found more or less my perfect stable rugs after much searching over the years but I am still seaching for my idea of a perfect Extra H/W turnout....

I would like in an ideal world:

Black with either grey or hot pink binding.
400 - 450gm lining, would love fleece over a quilted lining!
Detachable neck that goes right up to the ears and does not rub, move or leak.
Great fit, Shoulder gussets and extra large tail flap
Deep enough to wrap under belly but not too deep that it hanging down by her knees.

There are rugs that fit the above but not all in one rug!

Many years ago....must be ahem 15+ years  I had a Worldbeeta Rug (anyone remember that make!?) that was a H/W NZ and it was beige and brown checked outer with a lovely very thick fleece lining. I wish I could find a similar rug but all modern day rugs have quilted lining, I am guessing its more hygenic?

I should have put more detail in my post. :o

*I like nylon lining as I find that they rub less.

*My two favourite rug makes (horseware (ignore the optimo ;) ) and Bucas) don't have shoulder gussets.

*Any colour that isn't too vile is fine because they soon get covered in mud!

*tough outer and it must be properly waterproof, not showerproof!

*Reflective strips are great for finding the neddies in the dark. :D

*I like the same design of rug to be available in LW, MW and HW because when I find a style that fits, I like to stick to it.

*Not too big around the shoulder, I have lightweight horses and some makes just gape around the front however tight the straps are done up.

*I'm not a fan of hind leg straps, so they should be removable if the rug has them and the rug should be 'self righting'.

*I love the tail loop under the tail flap of my horseware rugs.

*Surcingles must be able to be shortened enough as I often have to take them in.

*Standard necks or wug style as I find that full necks rub and I have given up on them. :p

Always been lucky with rugs re fit etc. with my 2. However, I do have a unfulfilled desire. I am looking for a Black Watch or green tartan wool rug with real lambswool round the neck and leather straps for Captain. I saw one many years ago and have never found one for my lad. So if anyone knows where I can get one please let me know.

oh come on - Im obviously feeling farrrr too creative!!!
What about the Rug that turns invisible when theives are about
one that grooms the muddiest little monkey into a shining show ready specimen
Or one the glows in the dark
one that 'moves' in the direction of the stables when it needs to be caught
Or one that 'freezes' all movement when they go to bug"$r off!
one thats indestructable even from barbed wire ect (I DONT fence with this - but it might come in handy!)
One that adds condition
One that keeps podgy horses warm but makes them loose a bit of excess podge - hahaha like a slendertone rug!!! ;)
What about one that plaits up for you in the night!

One that ACTUALLY gets my horse warm and dry within minutes!
