Your Most Embarassing Fall Off ??

My experienced friend's 12 yr old daughter is a nervous rider. So they borrowed my super-safe 14.2 Sullivan for her to have a teeny hack with mum on foot, walking with her. On the straight, flat bit of the hack, mum says, go on ask for a little canter. Well, Sullivan being Sullivan just ignored the daughter so mum says, get off, I'LL show you how to do it (yes...you can see it coming!). So mum hops on, gives Sullivan a huge, confident pony club kick in the ribs and he bucks, drops a shoulder and dumps her on the deck! Daughter couldn't stand up for laughing. Mum said don't you DARE tell Barb (me) so of course the very next time I saw them she came screeching up to tell me about her mum's "Cantering In The Countryside" lesson!!!! He he he!

I was riding one of the show horses at our yard (Rodney aka Rod the Sod)as a companion for one of the pointers on a canter. Boss told me that I'd have to kick him on and get a bit of a lead. So off we went (and he was VERY slow) so I kicked him on and thought "gosh this canter feels a bit humpy". Next moment he fired me in a big parabolic arc over his shoulder to land in heap in front of him. Took the boss ages to stop laughing. Soooo embarrassing.
And then there was the time that we did a 7 mile canter (on and off) in short stirrups and I jumped off my horse to find that my legs no longer functioned and I toppled ever so slowly over backwards into a puddle underneath one of the pointers who gave me a WTF look. Had to squelch back to the yard only to bump into bloke I had a crush on.

oh lord I've had so many hilarious falls but there are a couple that really stand out!! My first time ever out hunting as a child and I was on my little grey Welsh sec c who was a right goer! Having a fab day until he tripped coming out of a ditch and dumped me over his shoulder, he immediately got up and ran away after the hunt- meanwhile I was left walking the fields desolutely, trying to find the hunt whilst crying my eyes out thinking my pony was lost forever and how was I going to tell my dad! A follower in a car took pity on me ( I was only 8!!) and we drove around the countryside looking for the pony. We passed a riding school and saw a man on a grey pony in the distance- I thought it was my pony and the woman driving the car jumped out and ran after the poor guy berating him for stealing my pony!! The unfortunate gentleman didnt know what she was going on about! In the meantime the hunt came by with some nice man leading my pony from his horse- apparently they had had a great run for over 6km, my pony had jumped everything and wouldnt let anyone near him to catch him- they only got him when the fox went to ground and everyone was pulled up. Pony wasnt satisfied with the run he had so promptly jumped a hedge onto a golf course where some bemused golfers caught him!! That was 18 years ago and I can honestly say that I have rarely fallen off out hunting since that ordeal!!

Another memorable one was when Mikey Graham from Boyzone came into the yard looking to buy a horse. My mare is exceptionally pretty to look at and he asked if she was for sale. With dollar signs in my eyes I told him she could be for the right price that she was exceedingly talented, not to mention very quiet and easy to handle, I got on her and rode her into the arena- the mintue her feet touched the sand she took off in a flurry of bucks throwing in a huge one that dumped me right over her head and onto my as* - the look on his face was priceless there was no need to ask him if he wanted to try her out himself after that!!

So many to choose from, why are people always looking when I fall off???
The most embaressing would have to be taking a group of kids on summer camp out for a trail ride, we stopped to let the horse have a drink in the river (I was meant to be the experienced guide) the mare I was riding on took a very gentle step to the left and completly left me behind I ended up on my knees, some how, waist deep in the river, and had to finish the ride soaked. Needless to say everyone on the ride brought it up hourly...it was a long summer =)

Re: getting off and legs not working, finished an Endurace and hopped off to give my card to the judge at the finish and my legs just crumpled so I ended up sitting in the mud half under the judges table, with the mandatroy 15 spectators laughing hard, and had to use the horse to get up again and as a walking stick back to the lorry. The horse passed the final vet check, but I was told I failed as my knees still weren't working properly

Two funniest falls I've ever seen happened to my sisters.

My youngest sister was on a riding school pony on her way to her first outdoor PC rally. She hadn't been riding long and was told no matter what she wasn't to let her pony put his head down to eat grass. So she was determined to see this through. Pony starts putting his head down, she keeps tight hold of the reins... head goes lower and lower, pulling sister with it and she slid gently down the top of his neck and landed on her head with her feet still up his neck!

Then there was the time my (other) sister on her nutter TBx was just standing chilling at a show with no reins and no stirrups. She asked my Dad to pass her a drink so what does he do. He gets a 2ltr bottle of coke and throws it at her. Tucker suddenly wakes up and leaps sideways with sister staying in exactly the same position in the air before landing on her arse. If it was a cartoon it would have been one of those falls where the wide eyes follow slightly after the rest of the body.

Took a nasty fall of one of the eventers at work and knocked myself out, Woke up surrounded by ambulance people & other riders, suspected fractured skull and broken jaw...I still cant remember any of the fall but apparently the only thing I asked for was a make-up check! PMSL! They tell me i was lyin there pretty much out of it and when I finally looked like I was gona say something, the only thing I managed to get out was '...Is my eye make-up okay?'

lmao

Still get abuse about it 2day

Some of these are brilliant stories - perhaps we should do a book ! Fortunately my most embarrassing fall was unwitnessed (except by the Moose). We were hacking round the top field at the old yard, and i could see that there were some deer lurking in the trees at the edge of the field. I knew that the Moose spooks at deer, I knew the deer were going to pop out of the trees any time, and i KNEW she'd spook. We were in walk, for heavens' sake!

I said very loudly, "there's a silly deer in those trees, we are NOT going to be scared of it", or something along those lines, and the next thing i knew, i was flying off over her shoulder as she did a TINY spook ! To add insult to injury, she didnt wait around for me, she cantered off round the field, and then took herself back to the yard....Cazza came to find me on the quad bike.

Thankfully no-one saw but I decided to canter up a slope in the woods, D decided it was a bit slippy and went right to the edge of the path which I was fine with until I got my right leg caught on a branch hidden in the bushes and got pulled of the saddle backwards. She'd only had her new bridle three days and snapped it by putting her foot on the reins as she cantered back to her field.

Ifell off trying to mount, Taf was being his normal cheeky self and running round in circles as i was trying to mount. So i thought right you bu66er, and gave myself an almighty heave only he stood still so i went straight over the other side. This was at a mini show on our yard so it was for all to see and admire. Little monstrous pony!

far too many to remember them all. i did get legged up at a show once by an over-enthusiastic guy determined to show that i'm light as a feather (i'm not) and he legged me clear over the horse and onto the other side. can't remember how i landed but i guess it wasn't elegantly!
most frustrating and therefore overall most embarrassing fall off would be at MK advanced years ago. decent dressage, clear sj, sailing round xc, mare just clipped the top of a fence (very very unlike her, she never touched a fence xc usually) and muppet here sailed straight out of the front door on landing. i was livid with myself. carried on, had a great round, went all the direct routes. still furious with myself cos we'd have got a good placing. aargghh.

I have 2 which I think are almost equally embarassing..
I'd been riding Boo for a month before I bought him and we were getting on really well. The evening after I bought him my yard were having a SJ comp and I thought we'd give it a go. I was going to do the 2'6 as we'd been jumping higher than this with no problems in lessons, but my instructor told me to do the 1'6 first as he was a bit of a baby and hadn't seen a lot of fillers etc. I was really pleased with myself and my lovely new horse as we went in. He then refused to jump the first fence - a 6" xpole. I managed to get him to cat leap it then brought him round again to it at which point he slammed the anchors on and put me straight over his head. Turns out he had stage fright and didn't like to jump when people were watching!
The second was this October at a hunter trial. It was being run by the RA and they decorated the last line of fences with AS90 guns - the ones that look like tanks - at either end. Boo was spooking a lot anyway as it was foggy and he wasn't too impressed when he saw the guns. He tried to duck out, but in a rare display of decent riding I got after him, gave him a slap and he flew the fence. I was just patting myself on the back thinking what a good job I'd done when he spooked at a bush and sat me on my bum just in front of the finish.

I was bucked off my old horse at a local show at stand still in front of 2 lorry loads of household calvary guys all mounted waiting to do their thing. Horse then proceeded to do several laps of the horse box area sending all the well behaved horse and ponies minding their own business at their lorries flying - not cool!!!!

Hum......

I have two! one was where I had badgered my OH to come to a local clear round jumping, so he brought his mum too. In addition to that I had my YM, a friend from my yard and Little_ flea and her sister. We did beautifully in the warm up, jumping upto about 3'......and then went to do our round at 2' and proceeded to fall off at the second part of jump 3 straight into the jump wing, and then after lowering the "bogey" fence got deposited into the jump wing of a fence in front of us when I asked to go right and the horse wanted to go left.

The second was trying to shut my yard gate without getting off. I had hold of the gate as horse stepped away and I toppled out of the side door..... Thankgod there was no witnesses for this one!

Got bucked off twice (stayed on third time) at our first show

Friend's OH was filming us but missed my 'dismounts' both times, just catching me getting back on my naughty pony and friend's children can be heard exclaiming 'how embarrassing is that?'

As I got on a friend's horse to keep it warm while she went to walk the course I ripped my jeans on my right leg right down to my knee, so it was flapping.
I pulled my jacket down over the top, so no one could see my shiny white underwear and walked him round the warn up arena.
As I got back round to the gateway, where everyone is standing, two horses went either side of me and squeezed me in so my horse bucked and as I was holding my jacket down with one hand, off I flew.
I landed on the ground with flap open and pants on show to 20 people!
Awful awful and still living it down!

when pig was a youngster i asked her to walk on with my heels(BIG nono shes hypersensitive) and she launched into a huge bronc fit and i went flying and landed on my hip on the concrete and limped for 3 weeks.should have gone to A+e but didnt tell my parents as they already though she was dangerous and wanted to sell her.lol

erm recently-when the 5yo did a huge spook for no reason halfway through my lesson.we were trotting lovely and round then she threw herself backwards and to the side and i went flying off.so embarasing!

oh and when i was ponying bey off pig when she was about 7 months old.she saw her first cow, stopped dead and pig carried on walking so i slid backwards off pigs bottom!lol.

A friend of mine (no really, it WAS a friend :-)) managed to shy herself off a horse. They were hacking out when they spotted some deer. My friend shied but the horse didn't and she went straight out the side door.

sat on my horse outside the pub on a lovely summers day i.e lots of ppl outside and my friends passed me a bag of crisps, my horse obv didnd like cheese n onion lol n decked me on the village green in front of everyone

Falling off my little TB doing grid work at Freshman's with Andy and most of the liveries watching. Yup, that was quite bad!

Especially as I came off over his head because I took a hold over the final fence when I jabbed him with a spur and thought he was goign to land and bronc. Nope, he just slammed on and dropped his head

Fence was barely 2ft to add insult to injury

The stories up here are great!! So glad Im not the only one who always manages to fall off in front of a crowd!

This day was memorable for the number of people who fell off...
My sister and I were riding in the field that opens into the yard, it quite scrubby with an arena in it near the yard. Any way the Sahira did a massive shy & buck (which I stayed on for) we then had an argument about which side of the tree we were going and she scraped me off. She cleared off for home, surprising my sister on Baby who shied, slipped over in the mud and my sister came off.
Baby and Sahira proceeded to leg it back, through the arena where there was a class in progress causing chaos and 3 more poeple fell off (fortunatly no one was hurt).
Mum caught the horses, and my sister and I had to run back to the yard red faced and muddy and apologising to everyone....took a while to live that one down =)

I was riding a horse at the racing school and we went off down the gallop and I was struggling to pull him up. Got to the end, me by this point panicking and he stopped dead. I went straight over his head and landed on my arse!!! Horse trotted off to join the others walking on a circle.

The funniest fall I have ever seen is my friend E when we were at college. She is a tall girl(about 5ft8) and for some reason the RI put her on a 13.2hh pony. E was quite happily plodding around and the pony halted and put her head down and E just slid forwards down her neck. It was in slow motion and was the funniest thing I have ever seen!!

I got bucked off a mounting block mid-mount. It was wooden, wobbly and had become a bit slimy, the slime got onto the soles of my boots. As I went to chuck my leg over, my toe pinged out of the stirrup, my other foot shot off and I fell very untidily between the block and the horse with my feet up in the air. He let out a huge sigh and then the laughing started.

We hadnt had the best of rounds and the course was pretty big. This was the middle element of a treble, jumped in too short over the first element and couldntr make the second part so he dug his toes in and I ended up on the fence :s What you cant see is that were the photo was taken from, there were loads of people, and there is a bank to the right with lots of people sitting on it and lots of riders in the warm up, needless to say it was seen by lots of people!
Came round again and jumped it fine
