Just intrigued to see what moments any of you have ever had with horses, ridden or on ground that have made you think oh my god!!

Mine has to be when Molly cantered down a country road in a panic , past a police car ,of all things ! Or when the beast she shares a field with charged at me, teeth bared ,ears back, wanting to kick my face out !
(not trying to be nosy/uncaring if people have things that they were seriously hurt by , obviously ! )

having an awful fall 5mins after we'd left for a hack during my week's trial to be a working pupil for a very successful event rider in france. horse whipped round, saddle slipped, i flew out the side door the horse then bombed off and the stirrup cut his leg. oh my god. mortified, not to mention a broken hat, a really badly bruised back and 30 boxes to muck out the next day.

Years ago, when hacking out one of our livery's horses (TB mare who was lovely but um... quirky) I realised the hot air balloon I had been watching was losing height rapidly, despite them pumping gas into the canopy - lovely loud hissy-dragon sound - and was going to land in the field I was in, about 100 yards ahead.

I felt the mare crouch beneath me - you know that feeling when you/they don't know what the next move's going to be, but you sure as hell know it's not going to be fun?

Bless her little white socks - she was actually too scared to do anything and froze to the spot while the monster landed and I patted her until she relaxed and we quietly turned round and went home the way we'd come.

But def an 'OMG' moment!

- When I was in the way of a horse who'd had a bad reaction to medication and was trampling around the yard out of control and with no coordination...ended up under her :o
- when our recently recovered mare threw a major temper tantrum in the field bucking and rearing, boxing at us...terrified she was gonna hurt herself again!

I sat a pretty immense spook the other day, and then carried on the diagonal and changed rein as if nothing had happened! was pretty impressed with myself but definitley was an OMG moment!

Turning out a 16.2hh TB who had been stuck in his stable for a few days because the yard was too icy to safely get him to the field... he was so thrilled to be going out that he dragged me across the still icy yard, and when I finally managed to stop him, reared up and started boxing out at me with his front feet. I hadn't been working on the yard for long, and as I looked up at his hooves flailing around my head it was definitely an OMG, why did I want this job?! moment. Once we actually got to the field, I took his headcollar off and ducked straight away because I knew his back feet would come flying over my head as he spun round and bucked. I was very glad to have my hat on that day!

When out mock hunting I decided to jump (what I thought was) a fairly innocuous 2'6 hedge. What I didn't realise was that the drop on the other side was over 5'

ETA: Watching Millie's accident was definitely an OMG moment as well :(

Horse fell in a frozen pondy/ lake thing with me underneath him!

If it wasn't for my friend acting amazingly fast I probably would have drowned.

turned my new baby hoss out for the first time in the field got so excited was haring around the field throwing his head around when he lost his footing and fell on his side then just layed there didnt even try to get up. most heart stopping moment i have ever had definatly an omg moment :o

Posted this elsewhere too but

Len stopping at the very last moment at a fence and doing a 180 and trying to sod off in the other direction. I fell as he whipped 'round and got the reins wrapped around my neck. I thought he was going to hang me as he tore off :(

Thank heavens my instincts took over and I kept hold of the reins and managed to loosen them off before I was strangled.

I have 2 really.
Many years ago I had a lovely SEC D x Irish hunter, we'd been together for years and hunted for 10 yrs. He would jump anything. We were out and were jumping a hedge we'd jumped many times before. This time the farmer had had some trees cut down and the lumberjack had mistakenly left them under the hedge. We went over, he stood on one of the long logs, slipped and went backwards, I landed on the log and he landed on top of me. I was so scared I thought he'd broken his back as he never moved. I also thought he'd broken me! I had some back problems, still do, 30 yrs later. Plus broken teeth etc. He rolled over off me, then stood there looking at me, as if to say "what are you doing down there?" He wasn't even lame, I think I was a soft landing! Stupid thing was I got back on after checking he was okay (it was over 30yrs ago, would not do it now!) and finished the day. Mind I could not get off at the end of the day, had to be lifted off.
It was a real OMG moment.

My 2nd wasn't for me but Elizabeth, my daughter. I got up the yard and my YO came to talk to me. They'd been out for a hack. My lad is very nappy and hates to hack out. Elizabeth was on and waiting for YO. Cappy was dancing around by the gate and apparently he went so straight up, my YO thought he was going to go right over and Elizabeth would have fallen onto a metal gate with him on top; I think he scared himself as well because he hasn't done it since. Just writing this is scary! Anyway, Elizabeth sorted him out and they hacked out beautifully, she doesn't put up with any rubbish from him, thankfully he seems to be over the rearing. Luckily she really does have a sticky bum, but that was scary even hearing it 2nd hand. Another OMG moment.
