Hi everyone, As a part of my studies this year I have to carry out an investigative project. I have chosen to do equine related issues within the UK. At the moment there have been a lot of different issues in the media to do with horses, I was wondering what do you think are the most worrying/important issues affecting horses in the UK at the moment?

I would really like to hear your oppinions and any experiences you have had, for example fly grazing, fall in a horse prices, rise in cruelty involving horses etc
** Any information given to me would be for research purposes only**

Thank you

Ignorance, greed, deliberate cruelty, and benign neglect are behind most of the issues that affect horses. There are numerous existing threads on here which detail the topics you have mentioned. I suggest that you may want to narrow your field of enquiry, the better to focus on the details of whichever topic or related topics that interest you most. General "equine related issues within the UK" is too broad a field to develop a single project around.

Thank you for your reply Arizahn, I have to produce a project on this and need to do the equine industry as a whole. I will take a look at the other threads but I am looking for people's opinions on issues they have had problems with.
Thanks

A good one would be 'charities' taking in horses without rehoming or rehabilitating them. These are places that 'save' animals from slaughter, rather than rescuing 'true' rescue cases. Two reputable ones are Hillside and Angel's rescue - they end up overcrowded and begging for donations when the feed runs out. Angels seem to have rehomed a few of late but they were taking in more and more without the funds or space to keep them.

They mean well of course

The danger of riding on roads, driver's ignorance and general disregard for human and horse safety. Over breeding of horses both low end fodder and within the racing industry, this really concerns me. As someone mentioned above the apparent lack of knowledge at the lower end of the horse industry, horses (not their care) are so cheap (see over breeding! !) they are much more accessible to buy therefore people buy before they are necessarily knowledgeable enough to do so

Agree with this
The Daily Mirror article is also something to look at.

Not sure that I would call either of them 'reputable'.

OP, I agree with Fides' sentiments

My goodness, there are so many issues, I could be here forever, as could many members. I would not know where to start so, sorry, I can't help, but good luck with it.
