when you school, do you plan what your going to do before you go in the school or do you just do whatever? how do you warm up/cool down. do you have a certain exercise you always do?
I drag horse across the field. Flick a brush over it. Take it up. Climb up the fence to hope on. Mooch along on a long rein for 10-15mins depending on which horse i am on then pick up and engage for a further 5-10mins before moving into trot or canter. My horses do alot of half halts, leg yeilding, flying changes, serpentines, spirals and extensions and collections of each pace. And then to finish, as bit of a hair let down, we play cowboys and indians and round up all of the shetlands in the field and collect the feed buckets with the walking stick I leave on the fence - no mean feat from 17hh tb'sThen we mooch along on a long rein again to cool down sufficiently.
Every schooling session has fun in it, different things every time and I will also throw buckets out across the place along with poles on the ground and use them as obsticles to be bended round, weaved, worked to and from etc. My horses never get bored - the shetlands do occasionally get fed up with being rounded up but half the time they decide that it's play time and buck, squeal and bugger about too![]()
