Your thoughts on this horse for sale?

I love this place for valuing horses! If its nicely produced, with a good temperament and good looking, 6k is not a bad price. I think they could drop the price a small amount, but they know that, hence saying negotiable. Is go and see it, the best ad won't sell a horse to you, seeing it will. FWIW my coloured horse was straight behind, and had great movement...

It's a bad price if there are other horses with just as nice temperaments and just as well produced and just as good looking for sale for 2/3 of the price in this economic climate ;)

Honestly I think I have a pretty good grasp of the market and it's not flooded with similar types for 4K

What a nice well produced young horse. It seems you are dammed if you do dammed if you dont regarding riding a horse in a more advanced fashion and he could very easily look very smart but surely that can be seen without doing so. Temperment is so important in producing a horse and he seems to have it in bundles. Price as far as I am concerned is there to be negotiated and as far as conformation is concerned he is not bad and wear and tear are the biggest culprits in lameness issues at that often comes down to how much work you have to put into them- milege. Go look at the horse in the flesh would be my advise.

^^^this^^^

Go see him if he isn't too far away....... 2 of my friends have horses with "plain" movement but they are so correct and fab in their attitudes that they get 70% at RC dressage (Prelims and Novice) all the ruddy time ;). IF, yes a big if, but if this guys attitude were the same, and it does seem to be, then a sensible type like him would be worth his weight in gold for RC and the like.

The video is running a bit quick making him seem to have a pony stride but I'd go and see him in the flesh for sure.

Good luck.

you want him as an allrounder to do RC stuff, then he does not need to 'set the world alight' does he?

i think that seeing a youngster started correctly, his paces were rythmic and he was looking for a contact, he was not overjumped great.

i thinnk he is lovely and well worth a look, he seems level headed and his work appears pretty consistant in the video when you think he is only 4.

a horse is worth what you are prepared to pay so only you can answer if he is worth the money

I was looking at £3k and under six weeks ago in the North West and if I was prepared to travel 2 hours or less I could have looked at at least a dozen, colour aside. Surely being that nicely marked is not worth three grand?

A lot look nice in photographs/adverts but until you actually get there and seem them perform it's very hard to say whether or not they're priced accurately. I recently went to see one for £2.5k that looked suspiciously cheap but photos looked promising and she wasn't far away... when seeing it it became all too apparent why it was cheap!

To OP I would see go and look at him, look at one for £4k and then look at some more, then you will know if he is priced fairly or not.

I really like him!
At first glance yes his hindlimbs do look straight and quite weak but I don't think his colouring helps that at all as he has a little brown patch at the back and the white is quite swirly on the otherside. He just looks young and weak. He may not be a grand prix dressage horse potential or anything but I think he's going to get tons stronger and his movement and jump will improve. He's careful and he looks kind and genuine.
I think you could do a lot worse tbh.

Surely that's the same with every horse you go and see? A friend of mine has recently sold one at £8,500 that is lame unless it stays on MSM/glucosamine and another for £9500 that rode like a plank in a dressage arena unless it was in a double bridle. When I was looking for my dressage baby two years ago I asked people what they thought of a really nice video of an expensive horse and someone who had already been to see it told me that it had a terrible dish on one foreleg that couldn't be seen in the vid.

The video of the horse in this thread has been very well produced and I'd be surprised, myself, if he is any better in the flesh than he is on a tiny screen. Don't get me wrong, I think he is really nice with a lovely temperament (but that can also change radically as he hits feisty five and gets fitter too) but he looks a lot of money for a pretty coloured 4 year old blank canvas to me.

I think people are getting a little hot under the collar about things that haven't actually been said here.

No-one has said he needs to be working in a more advanced frame or that he hasn't been well produced; but he is downhill and it isn't just because he is a 4yro- plenty of 4yros work level/slightly uphill from day dot due to their conformation and natural carriage/movement.

Plenty of 4yros show more scope and athleticism over a fence and personally, I would rather have one of them.
Hence asking the OP what she wants him for :)

Nobody is judging him against more mature horses as far as I can see?

We were asked to give opinions and it seems anyone who has said anything negative about the video/ way of going is now being bemoaned for not appreciating how well produced he is- I think he is well produced; but it doesn't stop me personally from not liking the horse or his way of going.

I hate coloured horses and I like him. It does what I would expect a 4yo to do with signs it will easily do more. I do not think its £££ for a horse you could go out next year and have some real fun on that is safe.

Nobody knows if this will be the case. Buying a four year old is always uncertain, because of the number of quiet four year olds who turn into feisty five year olds once they realise their own strength. (a trainer I know uses a different alliteration for the first word of the expression "feisty five"). He's also in a pro home at the moment, and the sheer confidence of pro trainers makes a huge difference to how a horse behaves, especially a young one. That's why I wouldn't pay that much for a four year old with obvious conformation issues, however nice its temperament is right now.

I would still go and have a look. You can spend a lot of time and money undoing a badly started youngster and this one has had a good start. It was me banging on that posters are comparing against a more mature horse and I still think a lot of you are. I have seen 4 years old with truly awful canters, yet when a little more mature can really produce the goods. I would go and have a look. My caveat is that (also as mentioned) quiet 4 years can undergo a personality transplant at 5 and a horse in a professional yard may not be so great in the real world. At least in his favour, he is fit and upto weight.. also seen a lot of sea changes in babies once they start to find their feet and are putting on condition!

Lottie 83 . I have a seven yr old with similar breeding for sale. And much cheaper! Pm me if you like

lol, me too! Only the one I have is a 4 year old and only JUST starting his jumping training: and fairly minimally 'coloured' and will eventually grey out.

Otherwise, very similar, probably a better mover, and quite a lot cheaper. So if you like the type - or the sire - there are a few around to look at depending on where you are. PM me if you'd like more info.

To go against the grain, I don't particularly thing he is "superbly" produced at all; he's running along, pushed out of rythmn, wobbly in the contact and going nowhwere with his back end. He IS quiet, obedient and attentive. Not athletic, perhaps a nice RC horse for someone? Vastly overpriced IMO, but someone obviously liked him.
