I am thinking of buying a wintec bridle due to it being easy care, and synthetic as im veggie :) whats your opinions on it? good or bad? I was planning on getting the reins and martingale with it from equestrian clearence, so it would be just over £50 for the lot, so not too bad, but still I dont really want to spend that to find its a load of ****

Not sure about bridles but Belle came with a Wintec saddle and I don't mind it at all. :) I always seem to see people saying bad things about them but it seems to fit her nicely and I find it comfortable and light to carry.

I use a Wintec Bridle on my horse. I really like the padded headpiece, and the fact I can shove it under the tap when it's got all sweaty. The buckles are all stainless steel too, so it looks as good now at 3 years old as it did when I bought it.

I have the waffle type reins too, rather than the normal pimple style, and they're really nice, but can get slippery when sweaty, but are fine in gloves.

The downsides I've noticed are:
- The noseband has rubbed the underneath of my horse's jaw before now as it's not padded all the way around.
- The material is very strong and I worry that if I come off and he gets his feet caught in the reins, they may not snap. (Although he got his full cheek snaffle caught on the side of the trailer once and the cheekpiece did snap then, which was a relief)
- He sweats quite a lot under it - not sure if it's because it's synthetic, or if he's just a sweaty nag!
- Although the headpiece is padded, the noseband threads below this, so loses the benefit of the padding :(

I did get a leather bridle for him to see if it was nicer for him, but it went bright green with mould where it's a bit damp in the barn, so I gave up on that and stuck with the Wintec!

I have a wintec saddle, and its definatley not comfy, I was thinking of getting a thorowgood or just get a gel pad. But I was just thinking of getting the bridle, I would get a webbed but im not sure if you can do working hunter classes in webbing? Just at local shows. So I thought if I got a leather look one It would be fine for the local shows. So is the bridle 'generous in size' xena whales? Because my lad has a wide jaw and usually has to be on the last hole or second last in your average economy full bridle.

i read that you are a veggie but a good english leather bridle will out last the synthetic plastic ones and are far more comfey! and not produced in a sweat shop in east asia? your thoughts on that one?

Hmm you have me stumped for words now yesyoucan. I don't know what to do now, looks like its six and two threes. But wouldnt nearly every bridle be made in a sweatshop though?

Have used them on racehorses, we used them mostly for our racing tack for All weather racing as this is rubbish for leather. From a distance you can't tell the difference. They do seem to make them sweat a bit more but so do the wintec girths but we have not had a problem with rubbing etc.

a good english bridle would mainly come from walsall! i doubt they sweat there! not cheap but honestly do last for years and years and actually improve with age! so long as you clean and soap then and oil occaisionally.

hmmm, I will have to ponder on that thought (to buy veggie friendly bridle? or to buy sweat shop friendly bridle?) Nothings ever going to be 100% eco friendly I suppose...damn!

I bought both my horses a wintec bridle because I love the saddles and so does my mare. I like the bridle because of the padded headpiece, easy cleaning, buckles are easy to do with my arthritic hands and well I just love it.

I shopped around for mine on the computer and paid £20 for each bridle and then I got the reins for £15 (love the reins because the full are a great size I am not at the buckles can actually feel the rubber grip lol)

Would highly recommend:)

I tried a couple out when I was looking for a leather look one. I thought they seemed quite nice (relatively speaking for a synthetic bridle) but neither the cob or full fitted my horse (cob cheek pieces were too short, full was mahoosively too big, and unfortunately as you can't buy them by parts I couldn't just get a cob bridle and full cheekpieces!).

OCYC do you actually know they are made in sweatshops, or are you just assuming that because they're not a 'traditional English leather' one, because if so thats a bit of an unfair assumption. OP, if you're worried about this why don't you contact Wintec and ask? In all likelyhood they aren't produced in the UK, but that doesn't necessarily mean that workers are being exploited IYSWIM.

Good luck with it! :) Another bridle you may like to consider is the Lemico one (available at pinkequine.com). Its £60, but that includes the reins so only slightly more expensive than the wintec bridle+reins in the end. You can also get it in brown, which would be more 'correct' for showing if thats what you're interested in.

I always worry about synthetic bridles and headcollars. I like to know they'd snap in an emergency so always opt for leather if I can.

Good to keep clean though!
