Your thoughts re stabling/shelters

If you had an ancient shetland that had a field shelter and trees would you feel it necessary to bring it into a stable when it rains for a few hours during the summer? Said shetland is crippled up with arthritis when stays in all night. Does have to come in during winter months though.

No I wouldn't, my Shetland is 'only' 21 ( vet says I can't call him old yet) and has a touch of arthritis in his hock and he will not come in during the summer unless bodily dragged. Even in heavy rain he is in the middle of the field. Your pony has the option to get out of the rain if he wants, and if he's anything ike mine he knows what he wants and how to get it!

My shetland has the option of a field shelter for shade, rain all the others go in but she prefers to stand bum to the rain and keep on eating.
