Let me know if this isnt alowed!

But just wondered what your worst BE event is that you have been to - and for why reasons?

hmmm

Burnham Beeches - never ridden only groomed but we vowed never to go back after walking miles to dressage, jumping on a yuk surface then not an inspiring XC course.

Oasby - cantering round and round that blooming field, been round once seen it all!!!

3day - Weston too much mud for me!!

Well mine was purely weather related! Chepstow 3day last year as it rained continuosly all week, drying clothes in the lorry was horrid, and we withdrew on XC day because of the bottomless going. A fab event, had some fab hospitality and was really well run, and overall enjoyed it, but was just disappointing more than anything! Good old english weather....

I didnt mind burnham beeches - but can see your point!

Firle Place for me!! I will never go back! (unless im desperate for run) I hated it.

The SJing arena had about 100 boxed off trees - couldnt even see the whole course.

There was too much going on - general public mixing with horses

Park with swings etc right by dressage you trotted towards it on centre line!!!

And the XC was very close to every thing - so many horses hit no 2 in the Novice where they wasnt concentrating at all

You've obviously never been to Hickstead then

Oatridge, dressage warm up was on the side of a hill & very rutted and a decent trek. SJ was on grass, the ground was awfull & the grass very long & greasy & XC rock solid ground, still kicking myself for running him there

Cheltenham 2003
Parking was a million miles away from dressage and SJing. The cross country course was awful, none of the striding was right, ppl were getting to the 2nd last fence and being eliminated if not already having had stops at fences 4 and 5, Zara, William, Joss all having had stops or falls or eliminations....didnt leave you with a lot of hope. I went and jumped clear in the SJ and lay in a good place after dressage so decided to run xc, horse stopped at fence 4 after completely missing the NON-stride double to arrow head, so i retired halfway round because i felt there was no point, not realising i would have been placed with a stop

Oh and ground was rock hard.

Much improved since, but only really go if i need a run.

Hickstead is a bit different it is a big venue even in the smaller classes so you expect atmosphere etc.

But this is at a sort of grassroute level and I think it can be dagerous to have things so close to the XC fences

Cheltenham is still uninspiring and rock solid though!! W/D after the dr this year because of heat and hard going, and horsey not quite right on such hard rutted going in the dressage.

95% of BE SJing tracks are on grass

Sorry my comma shouldn't be there, that wasn't the complaint (I've never BEsj'd on a surface) it was the ground being really bad & the grass was too long & very "greasy". Made for lots of skidding horses (with studs in)

Windsor Racecourse, although they didn't run it the following year so must have been bad!

DR/SJ warm up awful
XC small, short and uninspiring

but worst was the access to the XC start, you had to negotiate a bridge covered with green felt and then a narrow track right on the edge of a waterway (not fenced off), complete nightmare on a seriously nappy/reary horse

I liked Winsor as I won my first double clear rossette there

Funny how different events effect people's views different.
Blackdown hills was mine. Poured with rain all day, everywhere else was cancelled. Went into sj and there were about 10 kids everywhere running around the ring. Charm took one look at them reared up and made for the exit with me screaming at the kids to get out of ring

Not very professional event IMO

Mine would have to be Urchinwood - rubbish dressage right next to a gallop section on the xc, SJ is always on the side of a hill and the xc never changes. But this does have its advantage as the Novice track is like a PN! But its only 10 minutes from me so too close not to go!

I HATE Blackdown - every time I have been there I have done badly at RC and unaff level! I hate the xc as so ruddy technical and not very big.

I didnt mind windsor either, mainly because it was close, and i jumped double clear and finished 3rd - peaked too soon that year lol

The Sjing was quite tough, but the xc was uninspiring and the LONGGGGGGGGGG walk back to the lorries OMG! Bally pulled my arms out had to have two ppl help me lead her back - just wasnt long enough for her lol

Blackdown Hills was my worst, but only because of the SJ warmup - it was tiny and knee deep in mud, people were pulling shoes off right, left and centre - I didn't even jump until I got into the ring. All the organisers were lovely though, and the XC jumped nicely.
I thought Moreton was lovely but horse hated it though!

The longest walk to the xc course must be Larkhill and the worst entrance in the world! We had to come in via the tank track!!!All the plates fell out the cupboard!

I like Urchinwood. I know it's a bit crap, but it's so easy and compact.
I didn't BE at Blackdown but know people who did and haven't had a good report.
Did do the HT with you though and that was bloody horrendous.
Least favorite must have been Stockland Lovell, mainly because I rode like a muppet and was very, very scared. Wasn't much actually wrong with the event though apart from it being so unbelievably scary.

The worst dressage warm up arena has to be Eland Lodge, loved the showjumping and the xc course..only problem was the dressage arena was a grassy slope and lots of small pebbles underfoot, so when your horse started to go well, he kept tripping up on bloody stones, although he was a star in the end..Anybody done Kelsall Hill - thats my first one this year with the new horse..any reccomendations for good jumpers that are a bit spooky?

The mud at Weston 3 day is horrendous, vowed never to go back, but looks like we will be as top horsie has damaged itself and will miss the first half of season and needs to be aimed at something in autumn- that being Weston yuck yuck yuck!!!
Have also been to Hickstead with mud up to our elbows and bedding floating down underneath the stables (and we had a grey (white!) JA pony to do!!

Actually I forgot Eland Lodge I HATE the surface on their school its so dead and the dressage was miles from where we parked! Nice XC course but wouldn't bother again.

My worst bearing in mind my first season was last season! was Bath and West 2 as I always find the people so competetor unfriendly and it is stressful enough as it is and then to top it all I won and got a PONY size leather headcollar and my mare is 16.3 and like me she's a big bird!!!!! hehehe
