hi - just had a call from fellow livery saying horse is ill.apparently leaning her bum against stable wall making nickering noises and looking unhappy and trying to lie down.. i rushed up - took off her snuggy hood which was annoying her and put an extra deep bed down. Not sure whether i should have called the vet - she has drunk water and started to eat hay again, although could only find one set of droppings since 3pm when she came in(until 8pm)shes in season and so is a bit odd at the mo. not sure what to do - going up again at 10 to check her but is there anything else i can do?

Was she sweating??? Was her breathing rate faster than normal?? Both could indicate pain.

Personally I wouldn't have left her is she looked uncomfortable and was trying to lie down as would be worried she may have colic. If it is colic I would be calling the vet ASAP.

ETA was the dropping you found, normal????

i know why you say that but she looks fine just sad and she is eating and drinking, i couldnt see any signs of colic. she might have been trying to get her snuggy hood off as it was in her eye thats why she was rubbing and she does lie down at night. there was no pawing looking at her tum she wasnt tucked up or breathing faster. i had to leave to get ill toddler home.. there is someone there in the stable next door until 10 checking her for me all the time..

My mare was not quite right one day. Called the vet because she had had colic before and I thought it was going the same way again but vet said a follicle (egg was coming down) and she was having pain as in period pain. Id never heard of this before but she assured me it was not another colic attack coming on. If you are worried call vet to be on safe side. Good luck

oooh thats something i have never heard of before!

hope she s feeling better soon
