I thought the Sydney Olympics were in 2000. Did they miss their flights?

no, the above were too young to fly unaccompanied then..... so they are having a re-run, we might have a chance of a medal with these ones!!

Good luck to them!
I have met Daniel and his mum and dad - they are a lovely family and I wish him every success in Oz.

I would like to know who is paying for them to go is it lottery funded or is it the bsja, they were already sent to watch the Olympics in China last year they hardly need the experience of going the show jumping wasnt even at the main Olympic village so they could have been at an international show anywhere and all of them have been doing shows abroad since they were 14 years old, talk about its not what but who you know!

I feel compelled to reply to this post because my 15 year old daughter has loaned her 2 dressage horses for this event and by good fortune both were drawn by GBR. Grooming for them and being part of the GBR support team is a fantastic experience for her and she’s loving every minute of it.

This is a fabulous opportunity for not only Britain’s young equestrian riders but competitors in other sports as well. In total there are over 1500 athletes from 27 countries competing in various sports. All riders have only 3 rides to acquaint themselves with their horse before heading into 3 days of competition starting tomorrow.

The competition venue is about an hour out of Sydney and the weather is a lot hotter than in the city. The riders have had to endure 44 deg celcius today and 39 yesterday so definitely no picnic!

I can’t understand why anyone would question the source of the funding when these riders are representing their country. All I can say is that GBR can be very proud of these young riders - they are a credit to their chosen discipline and their country.

to be fair it is believed that sportsmen and women who experience the olympics early in their carers even as a spectator are more like to then succeed in future games. i do believe that ther is an element of who you know in the appropriation of funds but as far as the showjumpers go you would have to look for a long time to find two lads who ride better than dan neilson and william whitaker ( and i am no especial fan of the family). I didnt even realised i was watching a whitaker the first time i saw William jumping in 2007, i was just struck by what a good job the rider i was watching was doing. Williams connections will make sure he is never short of horses but he still has to ride them.
I have no opinion on louise saywell i have never seen her ride that i can recollect.
