What a brave boy Corky was! My word that looks nasty! Healing vibes go out to Corky and I wish him the best in a speedy recovery! Big hugs for you for being brave too! xx

My mare had virtually the exact same injury a few years ago. She somehow managed to get her hind leg over some barb wire and it cut like jagged cheesewire. It took a while to heal and did produce proud flesh which had to be cut off and it healed with minimal scarring. Be careful with the bandaging as when you bandage over thetop of the hock, above the point you can get pressure sores. My mare has a white patch about an inch in diameter caused by the bandage.

My foal had a very similar injury lst year when I suspect she'd rolled too close to the electric fence and got caught up.

This is it healing nicely 3 & 1/2 weeks after doing it and now, with the right treatment, it is a hairline mark without any proud flesh.

Fortunately nothing underneath was damaged underneath.

Oh poor you I can honestly say I know exectly what you went through as had a similar incident where Wills went through and over fencing. Farmer came trundling along and said he thought a horse might be out so I thought it was probably a horse had gone through electric fencing. Oh no how wrong was I Wills had managed to get tangled in one part of the fence, probably through leaping around, panicked and tried to jump out but somersaulted instead. Initially on checking all appeared ok but when I looked up inside his rug he had 'cheeswired' his armpit which was about 8 inches deep, took four layers of stitching and five hours to close. Can't even see a scar now.
Did post piccies originally but I'll save everyone them this time.
Ruddy creatures!!!

Ouch. Thats a good one. Hope the poor fella isn't too sore and well done you for not fainting / rushing about in a mad panic. I hate blood when its someone / something elses - i strangely don't mind it when its mine.
Healing vibes heading his way

you love that?!?!?eeew!!! haha! I didnt want to look but I just had to! Weird hey! Poor boy though, I think I would have just stood there panicking (or puking!) Glad he's going to be ok though

** UPDATE**

Corky is still weight bearing and appears, well, very normal actually!
Cant see what the cut is doing as its under 10 inches of cotton wool and bandage!

He isnt being such a good patient today!
He stropped royally when the other horses got turned out and shoulder barged his door - resulting in him breaking the top bolt - doh

Still all repaired (for now)

Thanks for all the vibes so far!
