Has anyone used a Z-itch rug for horses affected by midges? I've got my horse in a snuggy bug body with the neck attachment which does a great job (he doesn't have full blown sweet itch to the extent he breaks the skin, but he's very itchy without the rug). I was planning on buying another snuggy this year but have just come across the Z itch and wondered if it's as good as the snuggy. It's quite a bit cheaper which is always a good thing!

Any feedback would be appreciated

It depends on your set up really. I don't rate these types of rugs as they seem to rip so easily but if your horse only rubs mildly and you have nothing they can catch it on then it may be useful. These rugs just don't last with mine and the fixings always deteriorate particularly the leg straps although I've not used this brand specifically.
I prefer the Rambo but it is expensive at over £100. My spare is a Premiere Equine Sweet Itch Rug. It is almost identical to the Rambo but comes up a little bigger. I've been very pleased with it and it's cheaper at around £90 or £80 without the belly

Thanks HP. Luckily my boy doesn't rub when he's wearing the rug so it's lasting quite well. The snuggy is £135 and the Z itch is cheaper at £80 so not too pricey. I'll have a look at the Rambo though. Lots of horsey shopping planned for Badminton so it's good to do some research first!

On another note - so pleased to read that your horse is back home and doing well :)

Hi - I have used these on my horse. My mare has moderate sweet itch, and I used a z-itch rug all last summer and it made a real difference to her. I have purchased another one this year, but I have managed to buy one that is slightly too large (it's 6'3") so shall be looking to rehome it ;)

My mare with SI wore this all last summer and the only rip in it we had was from when she had a nasty fall in the field. I have used the Rambo SI rugs, and think that this style of rug is much more effective and provides much more complete cover if you have a sensitive horse. You do have to have a fairly sensible horse, as they have to be put on going over the head (so there is no buckles / gaps etc round the body).

PM me if mine would be any good to you :) xx

This is my horse his one of his old sweet itch rug's .Having had him 15 yrs...14 of those with sweet itch, he's pretty used to them going over his head :D
