Have just come back from a weekend spent at the Zangersheide stud - HHOs were in the end only represented by a couple of us, I think - didn't come across any other Brits whilst we were over there.

Just wanted to say that if you get a chance to go to next year's Open Days - bust a gut to get there! Its an absolutely fantastic expereince, we have never seen so many incredible horses in one place at the same time, and quite amazing facilities. The whole event was incredibly professional, and does demonstrate what we have to aspire to in the UK! And it was lovely to be able to see the stallions presented, loose schooled over jumps, and the older ones under saddle over two days, so you had time to revisit those that you liked, check out others ... and then go and visit their offspring in the foal barns. Most of the dams were there as well, to give an idea of what particular combinations of stallions and mares might breed ... And I've often wondered why Zangersheide never mention temperament in their stallion descriptions, asuming that some might be highly strung and difficult to handle .... couldn't have been more wrong! The stallions were all ridden and jumped in snaffles, and they just loved being fussed and stroked when we went around the stables.

The whole experience was a complete eye-opener for two amateur breeders, but one that we learnt so much from. All I can say is - wow!! (And why were there German, Dutch, Belgian, French, Americans, Irish ... but no Brits that we came acrosss?)

so which stallion really caught your eye? Nice that you could go to see the foals too.

I love going over to the stallion shows in Germany, like you say being able to see the stallions in their boxes, watch them work in and then come out and perform in the main arena is really interesting. If you keep going for a few years you'll really start to see which bloodlines appeal to you and how different horses develop over time.

I have to say the new young stallion Clintissimo Z is jaw droppingly awesome! Definately the new Brad Pitt of the horse world! Not only is he beautifully put together but his jump is supremely effortless and coupled with a gorgeous personality. He loved the crowd - was showing off over the fences by lookng at the crowd whilst hovering above the fences as if to say 'See how good I am...' Suffice to say has a huge fan club and his stock of semen that was on site at the weekend is already sold out! Whenever he walked in the arena, th crowd wouldhush/gasp at him! He is picked to be our WB mare's hubby for '08.

One stallion from the Z approval that stood out was A.Beast. A 3 yr old of Sandro Boy/Accord/Landgraf lines, he was awarded excellent and I should imagine geat things await him!

Balougran Z is a serious jumper like his bloodlines should suggest (Baloubet de Rouet/Grannus/Argentinus) and I believe is going GP this year so those of you looking for serious SJers then look no further!

All of the stallions were tuly beautifully produced and I imagine it was atough job for the approval board when deciding on that newly approved stallions, however of the 55 presented, only 17 were approved! (This included Guidam - now the grand old age of 20 and looking fab - and Tresor D'Opaline).

Eventing people - they have a lovely TB/WB stallion stading called Amiro Z. I really think he is a nice type for adding some blood into the eventing mare's. I honestly didn't fall for him on his stud card, however adored him in the flesh! His temperament is amazing (he wanted to climb into the suitcases and come home) and his movement/jump coupled with his TB part bred breeding (plus the fact that his dam is a full sister to Ratina Z and herself and Olympic SJer) mean I really think he will be a useful stallion for promoting eventers with that splash of continental movement and jump.

There is just so much to gush about with these stallions that I could go on and on. Suffice to say to all you breeders out there that if you're looking for serious performance bloodlines (and the stud fees are actually cheaper than may British ones - plus Live foal guarantees) then you should really consider these boys! Pics hopefully to follow when we get them all sorted and downloaded.

Nice words about a super weekend, thankyou.

For me the other standout stallion was Chippendale Z, presented by the Legend Jos Lansink. Chippendale Z is now training with Jos and made top of the wing jumping look effortless. just Jos's type of horse and they clearly click. Nice for Zangersheide to ba able to call on the World Champion to present a horse.

My horse is from Zangersheide, unfortunately any paperwork was lost along the way so I don't know who he's by. I've been meaning to go to one of the open days or auctions there for ages now.

Nice to hear about Chippendale too, I have a DVD from them which is a couple of years old but he looked very promising then.

Hi Ken - I was going to say Chippendale Z too but thought I'd gushed on enough about the others. As you said at the time, Jos's riding is in a different league and he was the only person to do lateral work and really show the stallion off from all aspects and not just the paces and jumping and as you said the jumping he did was truly effortless and poetry.

I saw Chippendale Z when he was graded as a 4/5yo and he was outstanding. we were so impressed that we tried to get our top broodmare in foal to him, but unfortunatly she didn't take (I even drove to Lanaken and back in a day to collect semen, oh and some beer and wine!!)
When you go to the open days, you can spot the future stars and that is when you can a bargin on the stallion if you are brave enough to take a gamble on a 'unknown' stallion.

The other thing is to look at who the Zangersheide mares are in foal to as they will put them in foal to their best stallions.

A great experience (even if you don't understand what they are saying), as the breeders in the audience are so knowledgeable that you pick up on the vibes. And of course it is free!!

Jos Lansink is most probably the best horseman I have seen from foals to competition. If ever you get a chance, see him warm up a horse before a competition - brilliant

well stacey I would say if you want to use Clint then get in there quick as his book is filling up quickly!! We've booked him already for this year and the mare isn't due to foal till early June!

I did notice that a lot of their mare's are in foal to the deceased stallions Caretano Z and Chellano Z still - obviously taking advantage of the fact that they've still got frozen semen. Quita a few also in foal to Asca Z and Level Z.

I would imagine his stud fee is gonna go through the roof as he is already in there Band II level (900 euros) - good thing is though that you only pay a third now and the rest on production of live foal!

think there may be a big que for clintissimo z next year i am now looking for a nice mare just to use him, have to have some thing worthy!!!
