I wouldn't really classify her as a natural born winner though...would you
She's had two very good wins on one horse that she happens to have clicked with...but very little else. From what I understand she suffers terribly from nerves and pressure too...neither of which would place her in the category of NBW
Ditto Rambo. She's a good rider, but I think her ability is overhyped. When she's been at the top winning/placing in 4 stars on different horses for a few years, then maybe I'll be convinced.

I agree, but maybe they are comparing her to the rest of the royals, who are essentially useless and have acheived little other than sustained breathing.
I've watched her, and I didn't say her ability was limited. I just don't think shes the best rider in the world, which is how a lot of people are hailing her.

Don't get me wrong as quite like her but we could all do pretty well with international event riders for parents and bottomless pockets!

I just don't believe that if the parents are good at something therefore the child will be good at the same. My dad was an engineer who designed defence systems for military aircraft, I am totally useless at anything technical (Inever even passed by maths 'O' Level) so I don't think it naturally follows. I understand that you are saying they had the experience to teach and pass on to her, and obviously the money, but I think there is still an element of natural ability involved here.
No one rides the horse for her. Whatever she achieves it is down to her own merit. In many ways I suspect being a royal has been a major handicap for her.

Agree 100%, i've always felt that.

I do agree in some ways though no-one can say she has been bought an endless stream of top horses to sit on! I do think there is an advantage to having the support of parents who are/were so involved in the sport but Zara is not the only example of this by any means.
Sorry spiral, was QR!! There arent any riders I think have bottomless talent, but the ones at the top work hard to get there, and I dont think Zara should get discredited for that by people just because they think shes been brought it, because thats a load of crap.
Zara had some distinctly average ponies. I had one on loan for a brief period before it went to her. So certainly never had it easy. I think she has a great relationship with Toytown and her riding is improving all the time.
Now a rider who has had money thrown at her is one lucky girl called Libby Soley.

I am not trying to devalue Zara's ability or her achievements. I totally agree that money alone doesn't buy success....BUT...
I don't think the term 'Natural Born Winner' can be applied to her....at least not yet. To my mind a NBW is someone who will get on ANY horse and make it win....regardless. I'm thinking John and Michael Whitaker, Nick Skelton, Harvey Smith, David Broome, Mark Todd, Lucinda Green. These are all legends in their own lifetime and have achieved so much and on so many horses.
Who knows, maybe one day Zara's name might be added to that list.......but for me at least, not yet
There are plenty of riders in eventing bought expensive horses. I wouldnt have thought Zara was particularly prominent in this regard. A lot of riders start out with big success on one particular horse, the test of a true top rider is whether they can then replicate that on other horses in the future which they have brought on themselves. But certainly she is at least as promising as many top riders at that stage in their careers. e.g. Pippa Funnell.
