However the Olympics now dont think bulilding 'lasting legacies' are the way forward (clearly much beter to waste a few billion) and no doubt news of Zara'a interview prompted this statement from the FEI yesterday cos i dont believe in co-incidence.

http://www.fei.org/Media/News_Centre/News/Pages/summ.aspx?newsName=update_greenwich.aspx

It must be said that once london was assigned the showjumping and dressage europeans they couldnt re-use the venue for those disciplines so soon. Howver it is only the xc that will really cause a problem in greenwich anyway. note how the FEI does not mention the modern pentathalon. that is often held in a different place to the regular horse sport because it is usung borrowed horses, jumping 1.10 who quite likely will come from wellington or tallnd or something anyway so anyone about to mention that it is a complete red herring.

I guess that even if a venue was built and never used again for 5 years it would be better than no venue , however the sport needs wider exposure which a front page headline brings but as has been demonstrated today not always for the right reasons

whicn oppnets will use immediately no doubt as well. i.e. "even zara not keen on greenwich" . pity we cant got a really cracking positive headline snt it?

I don't think there is anything positive to say about a venue that is too small, in the wrong place and not going to make residents or the equestrians happy.

They are going to have to limit tickets as the capacity is not big enough, and as usual they haven't really considered that public transport is not going to cope so where are all these people going to park?

I am gutted there will be nothing lasting from the olympics, just another legacy of waste and excess akin to the dome which appears to be a hallmark of the current idiots in charge!!

I am still fuming that the BEF, BE and H&H have no balls to say that we want something permenant. We lost out on hosting WEG as there is no where to hold it....

Imagine a huge new stadium, new cross country course, a real facility and the bonus of holding the WEG.

Not a chance, we'd rather blow the cash on something temporary in a bid that some inner city kids, who don't live in Greenwich, might pop along (.... the fact that tickets will be limited and they won't be able to afford them is a slight oversight)

you know i totally agree with you cotswoldsj, i was refering to ANY sort of good horsey headline. there hasnt been much nice to say has there?

She was also in the newspaper today for becoming an "ambassador" (I keep thinking Ferrero Rocher adverts) for RBS. As we (the taxpayers) own RBS now, that effectively makes her a civil servant!

What a muppet! Whether we think Greenwich is a good or bad thing its a pity there is not a united positive front. It is only a matter of time that Equestrain is NOT part of the Olympic and is replaced by Chess or Bridge or something else that is easier to televise and cheeper to host.

personally i would rather be a muppet with zara than someone whose narrow minded, blinkered studidity was responsible for the demise of olympic horse sport from 2013. how on earth does anyone think if one of the premier eqiestrian nations on earth cannot do better than waste millions on a centre that will be torn straight down and even if it were not would be in an area that has less than no use for it.
well said Z.

well said L.
we could make a permanent, brilliant site somewhere in the South/South East. it could be used for many years for training and competitions, and/or livery. instead they are trying to shoehorn the whole thing into a totally ridiculous small site in about the worst possible place, just for the sake of the backdrop i think.

Actually I was being very open minded. My point was that despite what our personal opinions are we should not be giving the IOC the perfect opportunity to get rid of Equestrian sport from the Olympic timetable.

by running equestrian at greenwch that is EXACTLY what we are giving them and why if we want horses to stay in the olympics it is about time people stopped being twee and pc about it and understood the reality. The london organising commitee are going to trahs a world heritage site for God's sake. lets have 2016 in paris and get rid of the eiffel tower or what about cairo, pity there are a few old triangular things in the way but the sphinx will be a great backdrop. right.

Utterly agree. We were only speculating yesterday what will have come to our 'sport' when my toddler is a young woman competing. Shudders.
