I had a chuckle when the Sky headline said 'Showjumper'....although the BBC did have it right (well it was their ceremony after all!).

Interestingly she polled 32% of the vote....680,000 votes cast....so it isn't inconceivable that the 'Vote Zara' campaign did have an effect.

Anyway, i'm a bloke, and i've competed in many forms of sport including the 'popular' ones like Cricket, Footall and Rugby as well as Golf. All I can say is that Equestrianism is right up there with the toughest of them. You need the physical prowess of a footballer or rugby player, and the skill of a golfer, along with the concentration and tactical nowse of a cricketer....not to mention the husbandry skills of James Herriot to keep the horse fit and well

I am really so happy for Zara, it is absolutely fantastic for all horse sports.

She won it because she deserves it, yes, ofcourse, horses are very expensive but it also takes bravery, tenacity and pure blood, sweat and tears to get where she is.

I am very proud of her.

it really does wind me up when they say horse riding is for rich people! im a waitress from liverpool for gods sake if i am rich then i wish some 1 would have told me. i would go without things to make sure my horse has whatever she needs. we all knew this would happen if zara won, and frankley i dont think her being a royal would have helped as 90% of the country dont like the royal family anyway so they cannot use that as an arguement. she won because she achieved something remarkable in a frankley unremarkable year for other british sport

I think that a lot of people are jealous of the Royal family, I don't have a problem with them, at the end of the day they cause me no harm do they! I can think of a lot of people in England who aren't particularly welcome who cause me much more distress! Including drains on our taxes!
