Sorry for the late update guys.

When I got to N Yorks, I found a very ugly, very aggressive and nasty puppy. I just couldn't bring him home.

Joooooooooke!! :p :p

He is now lying at my feet (Roly and Lil and on the deck chairs, in varying levels of disgust!)

He travelled the 6hr jouney home (cough, someone took a wrong turn off the M40 and was off to London :D ) he lay in the back on his blankey, flat out asleep all the way.

I did take him for a break in the service station, where he frightened the life out of me by lunging at a JRT (que me, cacking my pants)

I got him him and he waited patiently behind me at the front door and followed me into the garden, then I took him in to meet Roly and Lil.

I greeted Al first (my housemate) and then Roly and Lil (I thought it best to put him at the bottom of the pecking order) and Zarno wandered in, said hello very politely to everyong (peed on the carpet :( lol ) and has since been very enamoured with his brother and sister. Who are very unamoured with him. Lil has been very good, she leaves him alone unless he pushes it and then she just turns and snaps the air at him.

However, Roly is petrified. He's spent the whole morning running away and or yelping if Zarno goes near him and Zarno really isn't giving him any worries as he just wants to say hello. Zarno has taken it all in very good grace, apart from the odd excited response YAP bark!

I took them round the block this am for 2 mins, Zarno stayed right at my heel and watched his bro and sis adoringly. Must say it was rather civilised for a first walk. I'm sure much worse is yet to come.

I am so pleased with him, I'm hoping with a few days Roly will resign himself to the fact Zarno will not kill him and we'll settle back to some sembalance of normality. Until then, what can I do? I've been staying out of it, reading that the pack leader wouldn't involve themselves in petty squabbles. BUT if there's a better way, I'll take it.

He slept quiet throughout the night and apart from a few accidents this AM (he seems to be absent mind dribbling more than anything) we have been A ok

:D

One still, very tired but chuffed

Kitty :D

You wind up merchant! I would just give them time to get used to each other, if Zarno starts mithering Roly just distract him and I am sure Roly will realise he isn't a terrier eating monster. Nice clear tattoo he has there.;)

I will keep on, keeping out of it then :D can't see me getting much chance to sit down in front of the TV for the next few weeks :D

The biggest hurdle I think I'll have is the varying levels of exercise they needs. OBV my two need a good walk, whereas Zarno can't go far (when can he start "proper" walking btw?) so I was thinking of small walk in the morning - all dogs, and then evening, I'll take my dogs first for a good walk and then Zarno later (do you think this will just cause a huge fuss) or should I just take them somewhere where the other two can run and Zarno will have to stay on the lead?

YEY!!!!:D:D:D

He is home!!:D Glad it all went well - will admit to a tiny heart sink when I read the first line - you t*sser!!;):D

Anyhoo I 'm sure he will settle in and Roly will sort himself out. I don't know about a clear tattoo but with lugs that size you could rent them out as advertising space!!:eek::eek::D

YAY!:D He's gawwwwjus:p Sure Roly will come round to the idea of him given time:)

I would have thought taking him on the lead to where the others can have a run might be quite good training for the fact that he can't always go and play with every dog he sees, but quite prepared to be shot down in flames:D

Now stop distracting me from work on a Monday morning, or I won't make you any burgers:mad:

Thanks guys :)

I was lying in bed last night, planning how best to trick you all :p :p

Zarno slept on his own in the lean to, while the dogs slept in the lounge in their crate. When I let them all out the garden it was clear that Rols and Lil were VERY disspointed to find him still there!! LOL!

I hope Rols settles, for the time being I have a little knot of angst over it. But I'm sure time will settle it, as it was the same when I brought Lil in, a few weeks of stupidity and now they adore each other.

GORGEOUS! He's a lovely stamp of a pup and judging by that knuckle will be a big boy.
I'd be staying out of the Roly/Zarno situation, except to reward and praise Roly the more he ignores/is passive/is pleasant to the big lad.

Don't you have any angst - you'll just pass it on to them, whether you want to or not!

Re exercise - on lead for now, he won't need 'exercise' as such until he is a good deal older, all walks now should be short (agree, take him with on lead and keep him there or on a longer line to practice recall and focus while the other two hoon)
I'm very much of the belief that GSD pups should not be allowed to full-on hoon, jump, do intense exercise until 12 months to protect the joints as they grow so I wouldn't be worried about exercise for exercise's sake until about six months, keeping him on the ground and building him up gradually.

Re him walking at heel - he is showlines but a lot of the dogs in his line have been trained and and qualified in the working disciplines so even as a youngster he will be displaying that sort of aptitude - value it and exploit it, even when he is this age - the dog is never too young to learn 'watch' and 'heel'.

At last! You have your GSD - and well worth the wait by the look of it. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but Zarno looks stunning! Congratulations and all the best with him.

Ok, well I'll take him with my dogs later to the local park, where he can stay on the long line whilst the other two run off (and maybe don't come back, must remember to take some cheese as Zarno is the perfect reason to leave and never come bacK!!)

One last thing. Lil is trying (in true Lil style) to dominate him by humping. I am CRINGING because I don't really want her jumping on his hips - is this an instance to jump in, or will she stop it very soon and I don't need to worry?

Can he wear a half check? Not that he needs it, but have been sorting through my old dogs things and have found a half check that fits him perfectly (when check is on I can fit a finger all the way round, so seems kindly enough)

He's desperate to play - what can I play with him? we have some old chews and a old bottle but I feel for him because at the mo - Roly and Lil don't want to play with him at all!!

EARS! :D

He's gorgeous (and huge!) - I want to smoosh his little whiskery snoot in the first pic. Nothing helpful to add, it's been a while since I had one that was so dinky and never a large breed so not sure of the protocol for walks and so on.

Old plastic bottles, your shoes and anything the other two want are likely to be infinitely favoured over specially bought toys. :p

Thanks for all the kind comments also :) he is beautiful. And like you say CC, he seems to have a natural affinity to doing what he's told, looking forward to a little walk later :)

He can absolutely wear a half check, that's ideal.

Get him a ball on a rope. In fact, get two - so that when he brings one back, reward him by throwing the second one.

Please, please please exploit his play drive as it will make all training so much easier - training a 12mo to even be interested in a ball was a nightmare for me!!! It will make him so much more switched on to you and focussed.

Yep, just wee short distances will be fine. Nylabone do a good one, nice big ball and a sturdy rope. This is where he learns you are 'the cool lady with the BALL! And if I look at her I GET THE BALL!!!'

Hoorah you've got him!

Lovely chunky boy and I love his colouring :)

As you say, Roly took a bit of time to adjust to Lil so i'm sure they'll all settle together soon enough. You've got him at a nice age too so he's not too hyper and jumpy.

Your housemate's got competition from another handsome man now! :p

I'm a bit concerned as he's drinking a lot. Like A LOT He's polished off two bowls of water this morning alone.

Also I read (because thats all I'm doing this AM - reading!!) that GSDs get bloat, what can I do to prevent this?

PS// Just made some sausages for him :D

Probably just all the exertions of yesterday, I wouldn't panic.

GSDs are prone to bloat and torsion, males more so than females.

There are no failsafes but personally speaking the most important thing you can do is not feed or allow unlimited access to water within 60-90 minutes of strenuous exercise, car travel, excitement etc.

Bloat comes on very quickly and you can actually see/feel them blowing up.
Torsion is a twisted gut. You know that expression 'my stomach is in knots'? Dogs can get this too, and where food is involved, it can be fatal.

As an old friend says, neither of these conditions happen on an empty stomach.
I know people who give their kibble on the floor so the dog has to look for it and take it's time eating rather than having it all in one bowl to wolf down.

As long as the dog takes his time eating and is not gulping everything down without stopping for air (you know the type) I wouldn't worry too much.

One of the signs of bloat is that they try to drink but don't so wouldn't worry about that. In those pics he is picking up bits of the terriers kibble, it could be that which has made him extra thirsty, does he have his AG soaked or dry? If he does hoover his food down try putting a large stone (as in half a brick size)in his bowl, that will slow him down.

Yeah, he has now decided he doesn't want his food at all. And wants theirs. Of course :p

He has his food dry but lady said over the past few days he's been off his food pretty much anyway.

I need to pop and get him something later so might just get him jwb large pupy mix anyway since he likes the taste!

Quite normal for them to go off their food in a new home, I wouldn't worry about it. Don't pander to him too much, offer food and then take it away, I have never known a pup starve themselves.:p

Well, jacks are now alseep on me, on the sofa and Zarno has laid down by the side and is sleeping. Things seem to be going Ok, touch wood.

And what do you mean I can't pander to him!!! :p :p :D

He is rather spifftastic isn't he? But save your jealousy until he stops wetting in the house argh!!!! hahah ahhh its only what I deserve!! I was all prepared for housetraining, but no-one mentioned the monsooooooon!!!!
:D thank god I have tiles in most of the house!!

Aye yai yai, things are really escalating with Lil and Zarno, I am really very worried for him face :( he just keeps on pushing her and she keeps going for him, just now it got quite bad.

I hope they settle. I cant have her damaging his face :(

Eventually he'll push his luck too far and she'll squish him completely - then they'll be fine. It's all going to be ok!

Use your voice. And I mean your Bad Mummy voice. Or make a very sharp noise, clap your hands, bang a pot and a pan together. They'll sort it out (as B and Tikka could tell you :p) or you sort it out for them :)

Oh Kitty, he was worth waiting for! (Even though he is one of, you know *them* :p)

Hope the group dynamics sort themselves out soon, I'm sure they will :D Though Lil may have something to say about you posting her poo-ing on the internet!!
