Zarno

Next slight problem, he's screaming when I go out. I popped out to get him some food, leaving them all in the garden and outhouse and I walked back to hear him screaming the place down! The reason the lady was looking to rehome him was because he wasn't happy with her going out so long periods, but we thought he'd be fine for short ones, as mine are left for a few hours then I come home for lunch etc.

Please lets hope this is just initial nerves from him and not an indicator of things to come, keep your fingers crossed for me guys x

See I have a screamer but I live out in the country so it isn't so bad.
Were you thinking of crate training him?
Could also try leaving him with a nice big bone or a stuffed kong, or leave a radio on.

Re Lil, if you think she is being out of order with her reprimands, you can pop her out of the room for a short period.

Little bugger, thought he would be too exhausted for pissing about :p :D
Please try not to get stressy yourself, it will filter down to the dogs as mentioned. Tis early days, don't panic :)

Don't panic yet! This happened when we bought Daxy home, she was fine for up to four hours in her previous home but when she came back with us she howled/peed/shat everywhere if we even just left the room. Leaving randomly for short periods, making a small secure space, stuffed kongs and a DAP diffuser all helped, usual separation anxiety deal, and you'll be helped by the fact that he's got company. :)

It is his first day, he is bound to be unsettled. Most pups cry when left at first, just because he is a bit bigger he is still a real baby. If you are getting him used to his crate then leave him in there for a short time whilst you are just in another room. It can be easy to spend all your time with a pup but it is important to get them used to being left.
Re Lil, ditto what CC says if you think she is being too OTT, but he will learn to leave her alone. Buffy used to tell Evie off when she was a baby, pups can be very annoying to older dogs.

They have settled again now, now just to see how he sleeps the night. He was quiet enough last night (ie didnt wake us up!) so fingers crossed.

Oh my....he is bootiful, pass him to me, I will train him, and well..........keep him for you:rolleyes::D:p
He will settle in time, it's a little confusing to find themselves in a different environemtn with a different routine, the quicker you get a routine of your own et the quicker he will settle, and remember as much as you want to spend lots of time with him, he needs to spend time alone whislt u are in aswell as out, I have a puppy training guide that I did for all the rescue puppies I let go, if you think it may help give me a shout and I will e.mail it to you:D
Of course if he gets to much, just send him to me:rolleyes::D

Well, I had a neighbour come knock me up at 00.30 lol to let me know he was squealing like a stuck pig lol I am lucky that this old terrace house has all the bedrooms at the front and the dog is in an extension at the very back :o anyway he did settle down within half an hour but the neighbour wasn't best impressed and said he'll put up with it for so long as he's a pup but otherwise he'll be complaining :(

Sooo, can I give him a chew at night? Something to do? I know I'm not to go to him, so I have been very strict and not gone to him, so want to keep that up. This morning he went straight out and weed which was very good and has been for a little walk and is now asleep *fingers crossed*

Well with my screamer, (and circler) crating her in the house worked a treat - and we had tried anti bark collars, valerian, squirty bottles, pots and pans - is he actually inside the house? Is he crated? Is there a blanket over the crate?

I am not doing it at the minute as she is not half as bad as she used to be (and we live out in the wilds with no neighbours :p), but she still squeals quite a lot and has worn a circular path in the exercise run. Keep meaning to take a pic of it.

I am not making this up, we came in from a 12k hike yesterday, I put her out, and she immediately started running in her usual circle, she looks like she is being fast-forwarded, that's the speed she is going at.

This is her in a crate - excuse awful coat:

And I can guarantee you he won't be anything like as bad as she is!
Her mother is exactly the same - runs in circles with her tail carried high over her back, singing all day.

Well this is what I'm thinking:

During the day I'm thinking of leaving them all in the lean to (providing its not HOT) there's a wipe clean floor and a drain (perfect for cleaning up!) He can't be in the house proper atm until he masters housetraining!!

During the night he sleeps in the porch between the kitchen and outside toilet. Again he can't come into the house as he's weeing a LOT during the night (angst I think!)

Maybe I'll graduate to two crates in the lean to for when I'm out and at night.

There hasn't been any fighting this morning, in fact he has left them alone and they him. Maybe one day we'll reach shangri-la, where by I will come home to find them all cuddled together, jacks and their big brother :D

That sounds like a good plan :)

I would allow only limited access to water in the evenings. He will also stop weeing everywhere once he learns where his 'bed' is - when B was incontinent through antibiotics and in the house, he would still go as far away from the hearthrug as was possible, IE the front doormat or the floormats in the toilet, the two farthest points from where he slept :o

Glad to hear they're getting on better :)

I personally don't give chews at night, they have to learn night time is for sleeping, but others may disagree. If he only cried for half an hour that is really good, I think you should just explain to your neighbour that pups are like babies, they do cry a bit. It sounds as if they are all getting used to each other fairly quickly, which is great. Was he kennelled with his breeder, or in the house, because if kennelled he probably hasn't realised he has to be clean at night. Not sure if you are crating him at night but I really do recommend, if he is loose and wandering round he is far more likely to wee.

Buy your neighbours a bottle of wine and a little card, on which you write to explain that he is only a baby and that the only way you can stop the noise is to ignore it, and that you're really sorry if he keeps them awake.:)

The crate I currently have is a little small, I have another one on order, the porch is literally just big enough for him to have one side to lay in, the other to pee in.

I thought 30mins was good, but I do need to get him to keep it down because the house is only rented and not mine :( hopefully he'll continue to improve now.

He was crated and or kennelled with the breeders, however they were still having problems with him crying, but he wasn't left loose with other dogs, so I'm hoping that will help him calm.

No advice to add to what's been said but just wanted to let you know that When I first introduced Hector (15 months at the time) to Caffrey (7) and Pads (6 months), they took time to get used to each other and Hector howled full on for the entire 1st night.

I had 2 lodgers at the time and stayed awake all night as I felt physically sick with nerves and thought what the hell have I done? It felt like I had made the biggest mistake in getting him, he didn't want to be there, my other dogs didn't want him there and the balance of the house was wrecked.:(

Fast forward a few weeks (with improvements in different areas each day) and they were indeed all curled up on one big bed together when I got home.

So as panicked as you feel now, i'm sure it will be fine :)

GAH! It gets worse, I've just got home to a call from my landlord saying my neighbour kindly rang HIM after knocking me up last night and again today (under the guise of being "worried about the dog" my landlord has made a thinly vieled threat that either I sort it out or he'll ask me to move out :(

But presumably your landlord knows you already have dogs? Did you not mention getting another one? Did your neighbour really ring him at 12.30am? What a jobsworth!
I don't know of any puppies who didn't cry, the first couple of nights...surely he can understand that?
What about the other house you mentioned looking at last week? Is that still a runner?

Oh yes, I think his ire is because by the looks of it, my neighbour intends to ring him every time he kicks off - and I can understand his annoyance at that. Typical retired person I guess, nothing to do but notice and report everytime the poor thing whines. What really bites is the "its not fair on the dog" line, come off it - he's got his pals, he's got his toys he just needs to get used to it :(

oh and no, the other house was in the process of being bought by someone else, so they didnt want dogs (the new owners not the old ones) :(

At this age this should be easy to tackle, I have a malamute in that sang:rolleyes: for a day, and nothing now, she is silent:D I also used a few crates to trian the puppy lurcher that was thrown from the car as he was yowling pretty bad and now he is silent, if he has a little heightened anxiety than usual it may be worth getting a few crates, I can explian a little better if u need me to, but Im on the run now, I have some mutts to collect.

Hope Zarno was a good lad last night. It might be worth pointing out to your neighbour that Zarno will be a good deterrent to the yobs who were causing trouble, presumably they bothered your neighbour as well so that might be a sweetener, but definitely go down the bottle of wine/choccies route as well.

I went over with a sorry card last night from Zarno, lol he didn't open the door *snort* I think Z boy has upset him and this morning, he was twitching his curtains at me :p
