Do they actually work? MrT gets some lumps on him from fly bites. They've even managed to get him through his weatherbeeta standard type fly rug. Just wondering if a zebra fly rug would make him less of a target.

Are there any out there with a belly flap too?

That will fit a hot cobbish type. He acts like a small boy being made to wear an itchy wool sweater whenever I put a rug of any sort on him. So something that is cool and generous fitting would be best. Shires rugs fit him well but they don't do one with both a belly flap and a zebra stripe. The weatherbeeta is a bit tight on the shoulders.

Would it be worth forsaking a belly flap for zebra print? Or indeed vice versa?

I use the. Rhinegold zebra rug and it fits well with a belly flap. I also have the zebra Stripe with the waterproof top which my cob gets too hot in because the waterproof bit is black.

I really rate them!
Had a rhinegold one (zebra) found the pattern to be effective but the rug rubbed and fell to pieces very quickly.

Swapped it for a bucas buzz off (they have a belly flap!) which is very good but I’ve sent it off for surcingles and leg straps as it ends up hanging off on one side. The clip on belly flap and fillet string don’t seem to hold it on after a roll.

I use a zebra print ride on fly rug and it keeps horseflies off, as well as other buzzy critters. I bought the Bucas sweet itch zebra rug and although it was great regarding the fabric and coverage, it fit my Welsh cob so badly (strangling him when he put his head down, horrendously tight across the chest and shoulders) that I had to get rid of it. Shame, but yes I find the zebra print really helps.

I have the Bucas zebra print, they have belly flaps anve has lasted a good few years - but not sure if they would would fit a cob. To be honest I am not sure if they are more effective than any other fly rug, but I suppose if you need a fly rug it might as well be zebra print just in case:)

Edited to add this is what I am using https://www.dekroo.com/products/buc..._NYObEuWBmPdXxaaDf8O6h8RqazeO22RoCkl4QAvD_BwE

BUT I would not recommend the Zebra fly masks. I could not understand why my horses hated them until I put one on myself - I could not see a thing wheras with a regular black mask one can see with no problem.

Thanks everyone. I might get the Shires zebra print cos I like Shires stuff and it fits him and forego the belly flap.
