I have decided that I am going to try mine with a zig zag girth as his girth groove is very far forward. Unfortunately none of the shops round me stock them so I can't try one.

I have found three which go small enough to fit (38-40") any thoughts.

Shires one for £30 - bargain but concerned how soft leather might be and the central pad looks bigger than the others.

Treadstone for £50

Fusion for £80

I will prob have to try an get a fleece to fit it aswell either by adjusting one of my nuumed sleeves or popping into nuumed as they are really close to me!

Also, are girths with elastic on both ends measured any differently or do I need to go down a size to account for it? - I have elastic on one side at the moment, I so I think the shires may be my only option!

Thankyou

The wider the central pad the better because that distributes the weight/pressure better. Just a word of warning about a zig zag girth, it is vital you get the size spot on because otherwise the shaping will interfere with the elbows, restrict movement and can rub.
Girths with elastic both ends are measured the same but it depends on the quality of the elastic how much give there is. Poorer quality tends to wear much quicker. You may need one size down with elastic both sides. Best thing is to make sue your saddlery is happy to exchange if you get the wrong size because you really need to try it on to make sure.

Thankyou, I am going to have a good look at his girth area later and see where I think the central pad will sit, just thought if too big might be more to interfere. I want to try the wider surface area as his atherstone (with one end elastic) has caused a lump to develop but if I use a plain girth his elbows rub

will have to do an internet order so can return but which is why HHO is being asked and I am finding it hard to imagine exactly where they are going to sit on the pone
