My vet has recommended that i use this on my horse and has given me 20 sachets of the stuff to give to him over the coming weeks.

It all follows on from his behaviour in hand and under saddle slowly deteriorating. He has had loads of checks, is sound as anything so she suggested trying this.

I understand that is quite new so i was just wondering if anyone had used it with or without success really??

Thanks in advance

My horse has been on box rest - with 30 minutes controlled exercise a day - and the vet suggested that I put her on Zyklene as she wasn't coping too well. To be honest I don't think it made any difference and would go so far as to say that she has been 'saner' since I stopped giving her it. That is just my experience but I have heard good thing about the calmer from others that have used it.

Has your horse always been difficult to handle/ride or has his routine changed to cause this upset?

I went to the product launch. Wasn't impressed that the science behind it is pretty sparse. They've basically just launched it into equine just to see if it does work.

I've used it on a stressy little pony on box rest and the difference was remarkable. I now have a 4 year old on box rest and it is helping but the effect isn't as great as it was on the pony. The dosage is 1 upto 14.2 and 2 over 14.2, the pony was 13.1 and the young girl 14.2 and on the same dosage so I'm going to ask my vet if I can up the dose for the youngster.

I used it last year on a 17.2 hunter on box rest since last August. For him it did not work. He hated the stuff which is based on mares milk and is said to give the sleepy relaxed feeling from the compounds found in mares milk.

When mixed with a damp feed it smells like gone off milk and it's not pleasant.

Ask your vet about Calmex made by Vetplus, brilliant stuff, my lad now into month 10 is thriving on it. Calm relaxed, eats well and very different since he has been on it. The smell when mixed is like freshly baked cakes, my horse trembles at the knees as the bucket approaches, and he is a fussy feeder.

lo lno not quite the same, has anyone else had any experiences?

Well, if it doesn't work you could try the zyklon instead. Guarantees you a very quiet pony!

Sorry, this joke is in appalling taste I know. But I couldn't resist. Why have they given it such an awful name?! Surely I'm not the only person to have instantly thought what I did?

Haha i know, and to be honest sometimes it has crossed my mind =P =P =P

Also people are saying it smells likes gone off milk when mixed in feed....i didnt notice this when i gave it to him last night..it smelt quite nice i thought

I have used it with success on my yorkie for travelling. The downside (don't know if this is the same for horses) is that I have to give her a dose the night before and then again the day we travel. Sometimes my travelling is urgent then it doesn't have any effect.

One of these is Zyklene for my dog the other is MY medication :D I have to be very careful where I keep them. :D

My dog is on it and its totally transformed her, although we've had her from 6 weeks old she's always been a nervy, on edge, the world is out to get me type but she's far more chilled now. We even made it through the new year fireworks without a full scale meltdown, my friend is a veterinary nurse and she says that whilst it doesn't work on all of them they've had good results on lots of animals.
