Has anyone used Zyklene to help a travel phobic dog learn to enjoy travelling?
We have a special needs collie who has a super sensitive nature. He’s terrified of travelling, hates loud noises and quickly learns to associate bad experiences (in his mind) with an ever increasing range of things in the environment.
He’s very work driven and has some excellent bits about him and could be a really useful work dog if he could only cool down a bit and engage brain. He’s the most frustrating dog I think I’ve met. We gave him loads of time to mature, thinking it might help but he’s 4 years now and doesn’t seem any better despite both hubby and I trying different ways of trying to help him cope. I read up on Zyklene and think it might be worth a shot as I’m convinced many of his actions are anxiety/stress based.

Zylkene did not help my dog with noise phobia.

Dorwest Scullcap & Valerian was suggested to me. I can't give a personal recommendation because I haven't used it but it might be worth a try.

We were given Zylkene for one of our greys who was terrified of fire-works. Cant honestly say it did anything for her. I have used a dap spray in the car a little while before a journey (because it was a freebie!) and dogs seemed to settle down quicker than usual. I guess its one of those things where what works for one, has no effect on another, so its all trial and error.

Worth a trial...can be dosed significantly higher than labeled for an anxious dog. I find it barely touches the edges in the severe anxiety cases though. Think how long it takes a human to get their meds right for anxiety then try and imagine how tricky it is to manage a dog.
Adaptil and Zylekene are a sensible place to start though.

Not too sure about travelling but I (as of Saturday night) have started dosing my collie with it. She's so good now in the house and in the park but completely loses the plot at obedience and flyball classes so I'm hoping it will take the edge off a little so she can settle and start to learn and then I can wean her off. I have enough for a two month course and I also took advantage of the Yucalm sale so if that doesn't work I can try a two month trial of that.

Thanks all. I’ve bought some so will give it a try, and thanks Aru I will give him a higher dose to see if it helps at all.

Hope it works for your dog Karran. Let us know.

I will do! I feel a bit of a cheat having resorted to it, but hopefully it'll just be a short-term thing. She's got a week to get it into her system before training next weekend so hopefully we might see a change then although I might be hopelessly optimistic that the change (if there is one) will kick in that soon!

Let us know how you get on as well!
