    Good hand scrub

I have the one below and it works but I certainly don't use it every day...

    Recommend me anti-chuff chafe jodhpurs

Period pants can help a bit, and not too expensive to have a few pairs.

An interesting read on the stress for a horse of moving to a new location

My only disagreement with the article is that the reasons they give for moving are only the people-centred ones - timing, practicality, necessity (which yes I agree aren't factors for the horses). Sometimes, and often if you read threads on here, people move very genuinely because their horse is...

Feeding hay in the field with shod horses

I don't see why it's different to using haynets in a stable. Personally I don't like haynets and only use them in specific instances (like distracting them during shoeing when necessary, although really I try to get mine to stand there politely without said distraction). Better for them to feed...

How to make myself more appealing as a part loaner

You sound like you'll be absolutely fine. I've had sharers before and currently, and the number of people who overstate their ability is extraordinary - it would be refreshing to meet someone who is modest and self aware enough to know their limitations. There are a number of good safe horses...

    Livery yard question

I think this is normal and as good as can be expected. Is there a yard curfew where you can’t be there after this time? - for me this would be offputting but not the fact that they finish work at a normal time.

    Deciding to sell first horse

Like many people (me included) you made some mistakes in the first horse you bought. First thing is to keep safe - don’t ride him again. By all means have everything checked - if you are insured this will help. Teeth and vet. Then, if he is not in pain, he will need a professional if he is ever...

    Farm/smallholder insurance

I've had yard insurance with KBIS for 10 years (house is separate). I haven't had any claims so can't comment on that but they have been good, I think it is about 450 for the year including all taxes etc. It includes buildings, tack, machines and liability.

Very Thick Mane - Plaiting Help!

I've used it for hunting a Welsh pony with a very long mane, TBH you'd get away with the plaits for dressage, they can look pretty good.

Very Thick Mane - Plaiting Help!

There’s a method that works really well (just tried googling, can’t find it). Make one plait at the top of the neck, just long enough to bend into a plait. Bend it in two and pull the remaining ponytail up through the top of the plait. Incorporate this in the next plait down. Continue all down...

What would you think of a yard that doesn't ask new arrivals for a strangles test and doesn't quarantine?

I don’t know all that much about the strangles test but have heard it is unreliable. I have a little yard. I isolate arrivals for approx 10 days unless they are very well known but that means a paddock where they can see and not touch others. In this time they are worm counted / wormed. It’s not...

    High paying flexible jobs

Whereas I think this is my idea of hell! I work from home and am alone apart from when I am in calls, which is about half the day. Total introvert and I always hated office life, especially the big open plan sort. I don't relax in that environment and am always borderline on edge, which isn't...

    Anxious horse + anxious rider

It's odd (if the original behaviour was pain) that she showed these changes after moving yard. What was the difference in regime - was she switched between sole turnout to in company, or spending more time in or out than before? Although obviously there was at some point a physical reason...

    Hot water hack….anyone?

I just fill two big containers (50l) at home from the hot tap. Wrap each in a thermatex and they stay hot for ages, even warm after a days hunting. And the rug is then warm to pop on.
