My mare has KS. She has had the steriod injections, and we are currently working on building muscle and bringing her back to work after 5/6 months off. I do not compete or do any jumping on her and I feel it is unfair in her case, but I do know of others who do so, but obviously it is all...
I agree with Twinkle_Poppy! I've tried Cortaflex, and did not see any difference at all with my pony.
She's now on Synequin and MSM and it works brill - expensive but well recommended
But my advice would be to take him to the vet, just in case he has a bladder infection or something else going on. You really need to rule out any health issues first, before assuming hes sent marking.
Maybe something has changed at home to make him feel unsettled to make him sent mark in the...
I have two labs, who love the water. My hubby goes in the sea with them and swims up and down the bay (with his wet suit on though) and they love it!
Go in with her and show her there's nothing to be afraid of.
Alternativey find another dog who loves to swim, to show her what to do. Be...
What about getting her a marrow bone, which would be really good for her teeth and the marrow is very good for them.
Also have a think about trying another food like Hills, or Arden Grange senior food.
Cosequin, Synoquin, and Newmarket Joint Supplements are very good but are very expensive (usually the vets recommend these). Healthspan do a good joint supp from their Vetvits Section. I think its about £17 a 500g pot here is the link, take a look ...

No worries, brightmount, but that is a relief, ... fheww! I think I'll get her bloods checked anyway next time she goes to go to the vets, just in case.
The web links you posted were interesting reading, especially the arthritis one. I think the cartrophen injections aren't as effective as...
Oh dear, my oldie has twice yearly Cartrophen injections, but never has had the tablets.
She is well in herself, apart from the arthritis pain in her hips and now in her shoulder. I will request a blood test I think to check up on her liver, just in case.
Thank you for all the info .... I had...
brightmount - Is Rimadyl's other name Cartrophen?
Also, why can you use Rimadyl for other dogs, but with collies and labs it causes liver damage. Or does Rimadyl cause liver damage anyway for all dogs?
Humm, thanks for that, will take a look at Supplex as it may be easier, although she does already take Seraquin for her joints.
I have had a good response with my pony using MSM, so thought I'd give it a go to see if it helps my oldie.
I would like to give my oldie some MSM as thought it may help her, as she is very arthritic. She is a working type labrabor and weights about 25kg.
Does anyone know how much I can safely give her?
Thankies !
