Hiya,

My old poodle is as fit as a fiddle shes 16 but still runs around like a puppy, she has really started to lose weight in the past couple of months and I just cant seem to get any weight on her, shes always been an james welbeloved kibble, her teeth are quite bad as poodles can get in old age, but I have been soaking her food so its easier for her, we did try her on some puppy meat food, but she was sick and cant seem to eat meat without being sick again.

Can anyone recommend a food that might help her gain weight, all the senior dog foods seem to be for old fat dogs not skinny ones like bonnie

any help would be great, thanks steph

I would definitely get her to the vet if she is vomiting.

She sounds like a great girl and it is really sad when they start to slow down, but it is something we all have to prepare ourselves for, it must be hard when she has stayed fit and healthy for so long x
The eldest dog we ever had was 14, she has done really well to reach such a grand old age.

I agree with above re getting her checked by the vet. If you can stand the smell raw green trip is good for putting weight on. You can buy it frozen, minced which she would probably be able to manage.

thanks for the help guys, im going to take her to the vets again, but she only went a couple of weeks ago for her injections, they said she was fighting fit and that her heart was amazing for her age, so maybe they could give her some build up stuff??

What about getting her a marrow bone, which would be really good for her teeth and the marrow is very good for them.

Also have a think about trying another food like Hills, or Arden Grange senior food.
